Type S ~2000km (~1250mi) performance changes

Has anyone else noticed a fairly dramatic change in their new type S around 2000km (~1250mi)? Ive been happy with the car but like most wished it had a touch more power. I took it very easy on the car for the firat 1000km (600mi) since that is the standard Acura break in so i figured after that point that the car wouldnt change much. I took it for a 200km drive on the weekend that was fairly relaxed as my wife was with me, but since then, the last 2 days the car has been on a different level. Almost no delay in any situation, pulls hard right to redline and no longer up shifts early. Its been absolutley amazing to drive. Has anyone else noticed a change in there car at around this mileage? Its also been a lot cooler the last few days, so maybe thats it? Whatever it is im certainly happy that it decided to spice itself up a bit!

Yeah, cars are getting happy again. Knocked down a sub 3 second 0-60 the other morning. New tires grip like an octopus. Street was warm from the sun but the air was still mid 70's.

Your car looks really good. I would have bought one in that same colour.

as mentioned cooler weather helps but additionally some motors break in after some miles and get a little quicker.

C&D's Accord Sport 6MT long term test got significantly faster over it's 40k miles even with weather correlation adjustment.

Well from what I gather, cooler weather means colder air which is really good for turbocharged engines and helps bring out even more performance in the car so enjoy it, that Type-S sounds so sweet at redline.

Cooler air > more dense > more power

Ive noticed the cold weather change in other vehicles before, but havent had a turbocharged vehicle in some time, so maybe i just dont recall it making that big of a difference because my brain only remembers N/A cars

What part of the country (world?) do you call home? Some parts of the country haven't cooled off too much yet.

Hi there, I also believe there is something to what you are saying... I am just under 1k on mine but have noticed in the last week there is a difference in shift points and responsiveness. The most noticeable difference is from a dead start and sticking the pedal to the floor.

So while there's air temp and mechanical engine break-in, some car manufacturers also have ECU's to also reduce performance for engine break-in as well. Have no clue if Honda/Acura do it but it's been done to some new cars which look at number of parameters (engine hours, rev's, engine load,, miles,...)

To other Type S owners: what’s the current mileage of your vehicles? Curious to see what’s the average from other owners. I’m under 300 miles but plan on getting a dragy device to see how the car performs at certain mileage while trying to see how the weather plays a role as well.

im in ontario Canada, we have had about a month straight in the low mid 20’s (70’s) but for the last several days we have been in the mid/ high teens (60’s). I dont think its totally attributed to temp as i would have noticed that kind of difference on night drives.

my drive home from work today again felt awesome.

I have 1350 miles in mine and it does feel more “on its toes”.

Transmission seems a bit snappier and it is really revving very freely.

Ford used to program GT 500s to limit power until break-in was over. BMW limits M car performance until 1000 miles and at 1st oil change the ECU is flashed.

That Apex Blue....best color on the new TLX, IMO. And yeah, cooler/denser air is better for turbskis. Enjoy!

On another note related to power levels, I saw there’s JB4 piggyback systems for the newer TLXs (2021+), however, it doesn’t clearly state if it will include the new J30AC engines. This may be one of the first solutions for more power. There’s been a lot of controversy about how they work and if they’re safe, but I think there’s numerous success stories with CTRs, G70s, and Stingers. The plus side is you don’t have to molest your stock ECU.
