You're talking to a former owner of a 1980 Honda Accord LX hatch, which my mother purchased used (from Honda) and handed down to me during college; car was in the shop nearly every weekend. Never owned another Honda vehicle until 1999 (a then new 99 Accord LX sedan...one of the most solid cars I've ever owned)!!
Haha - my first Honda was a 1984 Honda Accord LX hatch - it was great (Other than being a 100% dog WRT acceleration) for what it was. That was back in the day when driving a Japanese car here in Ohio could get you into a fight.

I was always envious of the 2G hatch guys....that is until the 3G 3dr LXi came out. But I definitely recall the rice burner comments hurled at me back then, just for driving a Japancese car. Ironically, Acura and Lexus had a lot to do with turning that around.

I’ll see your 1980 Accord hatchback and raise you a 1974 Plymouth Valiant sedan.
On a serious note though, I just saw a G70 sedan in white out in the wild and it looked pretty stunning in that rear 3/4 angle. If only it had the same interior as the GV70.
As far as first Hondas go, mine was a 1980 Honda Prelude. I was very young and naive and thought I was something driving around in that car with the windows down, sunroof open and my cool sunglasses on.
I literally had one of the first Accords in the country. It was on the first shipments to dealers. Had four of them between then and 1984. I also had an RX-7 off the first shipments to dealers!
It's crazy how Genesis is able to attack both ends of the market. At the lower end you get a ton of value with their cars, and I can see them legitimately taking over Acura's old "smart luxury" market segment. And at the upper end, you can option these cars to the point where they exceed what you can get on the competitors cars, so you can legitimately say that you bought it not because it was cheaper or better bang for the buck, but because they offer features you flat out can't get on some of the German cars. And all this while still being in the performance conversation; they're not going to match BMW, but they're at least competitive with Audi and MB in many performance facets, and definitely surpass Lexus. That 10 year 100K powertrain warranty is just icing on the cake. Once they get their dealership network figured out, they're going to be a force to be reckoned with. And if they ever decide to come out with a performance division, that's going to be very interesting indeed.
Anybody know how many years of free scheduled maintenance you get from Genesis down in the States? We get 5 years of it up here in Canada.
I’m picking my GV70 on Saturday. It’s funny how all the things I had hoped to get on a TLX ended up being found on this SUV instead.
Are you referring to features? The only thing Type S is missing in Canada is HUD, everything else is already included even the surround cameras. Your car is also $15K more so not really in the same price range.
I love the profile and can tolerant the front end, but the rear end just doesn’t work for me. Also not completely sold on the interior though I’ll hold off judgement until I can see it up close. While the vehicle generally looks appealing now I don’t think the design will age well.

Thanks, I haven’t actually looked closely at the features list for a Type S recently. Kind of gave up on the car early on during the launch campaign. But all’s good. Those who bought a Type S, enjoy it in good health.
Damn man, so fucking beautiful! That interior is gorgeous!
Thanks. It’s been a while since I’ve seen such a cohesively designed interior. And it doesn’t just look good, every switchgear feels refined, every chime and alert sounds elegant. The infotainment system is just mind-boggling in its depth and yet incredibly simple to use. Not only is there a touch screen, but you get an Audi/BMW style scroll wheel (which is made of glass), AND there are also shortcut hard buttons for frequently used functions. They literally thought of everything.
It’s a little bit unfortunate the other Genesis models don’t have this exact same interior.
Nice wheels! Saw that color combo in a video and it looks cool. I like non-traditional interiors. The exterior styling looks much better on the GV70 than the G70. Congrats!

You know this type of attention to detail with materials will make their way into newer models.

I really like the wheels as well. After seeing them in person, they are perfect for an OEM wheel. I agree with you as well. I'm tired of bread and butter interiors. I was mind blown when I saw the GV70 in person. Attention to details are things like how much leather the interior has on panels that would be hard plastic's in nearly every other vehicle. That's the type of stuff I love to see.
On the Genesis site the V6 can only be had with the round pipes. With the prestige package the thing is $64,000. Yikes. 😳
I was not sure if the 3.3 came standard with the Sport package and didn't even do a build on one. I did a build on the Four Cylinder. They offer a Sport Package with the round pipes and other differences.
I like the overall exterior shape of the GV70, but not sold on the split head/taillights. And did they really carry the whole fake vents look into the wheels? Interesting...
