Spare tire or repair kit ?

There seems to have no factory information as of which TLX package trim(s) come with a spare tire and which come only with a repair kit. Can TLX owners please confirm ?

I don't think any come with the spare tire. I was told it is something that can be purchased separately for around 150. They should all come with the repair kit unless built otherwise from the factory/dealer choice.

the old TLX it was an option, hopefully it is on the new TLX. I am moving to an EV and virtually none of them even offer one.

None of the 2.0 TLX come with a spare tire.

Yeah strange. At least it's a cheap fix.

Personally, I would carry a spare or run on performance/touring run-flats.

I'm sure it's to optimize fuel econ. Once an owner puts a spare in, the car no longer needs to conform to the EPA rated fuel economy since it's no longer the stock specification.

I would call Acura Roadside Assistance. You’ve already paid for it...

Nope, that's just what auto manufacturers tell us......it's 100% about costs. 30 years ago cars had full size spares, then donuts, and now a can of fix-a-flat or an inflator. If a tire and donut cost the auto manufacturer $150 each and they sell a million cars and the inflator costs them $50, they're saving $100,000,000 from that alone.

Will they lend us a spare tire, or will they repair and plug the flat tire right on the spot ?

The dealer told me that they will attempt to make the repair using just the plug kit first. If it can't be repaired on the spot, they will tow it.

I asked that exact question because I came from a '18 MDX that had a spare. I will call roadside assistance every time since it's built into the cost of ownership/lease.

That sounds like a more practical reason. Wonder what they'll take away next in the name of "value engineering"?

Where do they tow you at night or on weekends? I have tire & wheel insurance, but it's useless off hours
A spare tire is the best choice; unfortunately, the TLX doesn't offer one

I agree it's a big inconvenience.

Probably should buy a spare if you're using it as a family vehicle.

Is the plug kit a temp or permanent fix ?

Still, nothing beats the peace of mind of having a physical spare tire at the back of the trunk.

I'm not sure if it's meant to be permanent. It would probably depend where on the tire the leak is coming from.

Do you know if the roadside assistance repair job gonna be the same as those performed from tire shops, which involve unmounting the leaky tire, gluing a repair patch on the inside of the tire and also plugging up the hole if necessary ?

If not as above, then the repair is not permanent, and will require a separate trip to the tire shop for a permanent repair.

Worse still if the roadside assistance guy uses those fix-a-flat-sealant kit to repair the flat tire, because it is a temp fix, the sealant is very messy to clean up for tire shop permanent repair, and the sealant might ruin the TPMS sensor if not handled properly.

Has anyone tried putting a space-saver tire and wheel under the trunk floor and over the battery? I don't get my new TLX for a few days so I can't check the space. But it seems like there is a big styrofoam thingamajig that holds the inflator kit. If this was removed, would there be enough room for a space-saver wheel? I'll bet junk yards have lots of those and scissor jacks kicking around.

One will fit back there. The dealer told me there will be an option to buy a spare tire and that it fits. I am going off of what they told me, so don't quote me on that. HAHA

From the TLX manual:

If the tire has a large cut or is otherwise severely damaged, you will need to have the
vehicle towed. If the tire only has a small puncture, from a nail for instance, you can
use the temporary tire repair kit so that you can drive to the nearest service station
for a more permanent repair.

The kit should not be used in the following situations.
Instead, contact a dealer or roadside assistance to
have the vehicle towed.
• The tire sealant has expired.
• More than one tire is punctured.
• The puncture or cut is larger than 3/16 inch (4.8 mm).
• The tire side wall is damaged or the puncture is
outside the contact area.
• Damage has been caused by driving with the tire
extremely under inflated.
• The tire bead is no longer seated.
• The rim is damaged.

Do not remove a nail or screw that punctured the
tire. If you remove it from the tire, you may not be
able to repair the puncture using the kit.
NOTICE
Do not use a puncture-repairing agent other than the
one provided in the kit that came with your vehicle. If
a different agent is used, you may permanently
damage the tire pressure sensor.

Buyer beware!

You might be surprised at how long it takes for those sort of services to show up. If you live in a highly populated area it may be okay. But outside of a populated area it can take a couple of hours.

In the Modern Spare bag (picture 4). i called the dealership to order a spare. They quoted me a price of $800 (tire, rim and installation), but stated it was on back order. There was NO WAY I was going to pay that much for a spare. Ordered thru Modern Spare and the order arrived 3 days later.
