Full Screen CarPlay?

Hey everybody,

Has anyone heard any whispers about a update that would allow full screen Apple CarPlay?

From my understanding, apparently this is a Apple issue, so are we waiting on a iOS update?…but some say it’s an Acura issue so are we instead waiting on a infotainment update?…or both?

Don't see how they could make that work. (Actually it's more that I don't see Acura wanting to make the huge effort). The way it's set up now is pretty cool as is: The main screen controlled by the absolute positioning trackpad and the smaller side screen, which is more limited to either showing a clock, onboard (not carplay or android auto) nav, or audio info. Carplay/AA data is sent to the large screen and takes up that whole screen while in use. Audio info when sent to the smaller screen is being pulled in from the phone directly - it does not care whether you are in apple carplay or android auto or not - it simply pulls audio data and album art in from whatever source is sending audio info, which it would do via bluetooth if you were not plugged in, or if you are using the radio or onboard app such as Sirius XM. I would guess there would have to be a massive update to the onboard system to migrate carplay or android auto data into both screens. Acura infotainment designers likely figure "why bother to do that?" My usual procedure is to have the google earth map taking up my entire main screen in carplay, and the audio info always showing in the smaller screen. Why? Personal preference. Nothing, in my opinion, elevates my dashboard to next level of coolness more than that google earth map. Other than an X-Wing Fighter's targeting computer, but we can't have everything.

I too have Google Maps on the Apple CarPlay screen and audio details on the helper screen. It hasn’t been a issue, but I’ve noticed lately that the helper screen has stopped showing album art for new songs I add to my Spotify library.

Other manufacturers have updated their infotainment to support full screen CarPlay (BMW, Volvo, newer Kia/Hyundai/Genesis), so maybe Acura will do the same. According to Apple, Acura has already confirmed their new generation of cars will support iOS 16 CarPlay features so why not?

That will be great assuming they really do it, if they do full integration with iOS 16 - but I would not expect they will be willing to do any major OTA software update that would change the existing setup in 2022 or 2021 models or earlier. I too have noticed that album artwork does not always load to the helper screen - I use Apple Music for pretty much all music. I always also listen to whole albums all the way through. Occasionally Pandora. Generally artwork will load for the initial tracks of a given album to the helper screen. If I stop playback halfway through or later and resume on the next trip, it won't reload the album artwork, it's as if the car's system is forgetting the artwork for the currently playing album once I get too far deep into the track-listing. It's a minor annoyance that I tolerate as the sound quality makes up for it. When using Pandora it always loads the album artwork from track to track. Perhaps Pandora does not overtax the Acura system as much as Apple Music, or Spotify. The bugaboos that many owners have reported with regard to the infotainment in general, are due, in my mind, to the Acura system having a hard time with multitasking.

It would be nice to have a full screen. Tbh, current screen is way too small. They will for sure put a bigger one in for MMC.
