Most famously, the Porsche 911 has always had McPherson Struts, considered by most as a horrible suspension design. But is shows that implementation is more important that the basic design.

Space savings in a small car.

And if you've ever made the mistake of following the advice to adjust the front torsions bars, to only be horrified at the bump steer when you bounce over a gater, you might debate about McPhersons for a little while.

:-)

Porsche is in a class by itself.

I do not think knowledgeable people would call the MacPherson a "horrible design". Especially in a sport car with limited suspension travel, it can work extremely well.

Another good example is the humble (in comparison to the 911) Camaro.....one of the best steering feel in the industry and an excellent handler....
