Maintenance Questions

Hi all,

just curious what kind of maintenance you’ve done on your Type S so far? I’m assuming the rear differential fluid flush pops up around 10-12k on this vehicle as well?

I guess other than the “routine” maintenance, is there anything else I should be doing special and/or keeping an eye on with this V6 engine?

Thanka all!

I have 10,500 miles on my ‘22 Type S, only had the A1 and B1 services done. Haven’t had to do the Rear Differential Fluid yet. The dealer wanted to charge $140 to change the cabin filter, but didn’t bite on that. Bought the filter on eBay for $18 and changed it myself in a couple min.

I negotiated a free 3 year maintenance plan, it was around the time Acura announced the 2 year plan for the ‘23s. Only paid $18 for the cabin filter in regards to maintenance so far.

I have 12,xxx miles on my TLX-S and the upcoming service will be oil change and rear diff fluid service. From what I previously read, no major services but I’ll have to review the maintenance schedule.

I also have the "complimentary maintenance for 2 years or 24k miles. So, all of my oil change and tire rotations are covered, but the fluid changes aren't included. That really isn't a big deal. I think a rear differential fluid change at my Acura dealership is only like $150. Since I am in a lease, I am thinking that will be the only fluid change along with a brake fluid flush at the 2-year mark.

I am really loving this Type S! Much more so than I did my 21' RDX Aspec. This might be a vehicle that I'll buy outright at the end of my lease!

So supposedly the 23's are switching to rear diff change at your second service...vs about 15k miles.

You need to do it when the car tells you to do it. Although 1500 mile fluid changes or too soon. That’s break in oil and such they put in that car.

I also heard that you want to wait on the first oil change because of the break-in oil as well. I just follow the MID. Always have and no issues that I’ve encountered this far.

No such thing as break in oil. They put the OEM oil they will use on any service.

I was watching the IMSA race this weekend and VP Racing had an ad that included break in oil. Don't know if Honda/Acura use break in oil, but it does exist.

LOL You shouldn't talk out your ass. There absolutely is such thing as break in oil. Damn near every oil manufacturer sells it.

Some manufacturers, including Honda, have been known to add additives to the oil after building their cars. No need to get so aggressive…

Would make sense...when I took our RDX in for first service, the code indicated rear diff change. I asked my service guy about that being so early and he said they aren't doing it until at least the 2nd service.

You again? I wasn't talking to you and none of that has anything to do with the fact Break in oil exists.

I only quoted you to point out that your always edgy tone was not warranted. I said the same thing you did without sounding like an a-hole to a fellow AZ member. This is me talking to you.

I’m coming up on that too, soon so I’m prepared for it. Hopefully it’ll be around the time there’s a service special

When rear differential code came up for me, I passed on it simply because I wasn't doing much uphill driving or towing anything. Seems like Acura is finally using logic, especially on a sedan (you could make the argument the RDX is more likely to do those 2 things).

would you say it should be changed if you relatively drive the car hard Atleast in some occasions?

Towing puts a strain and so does going uphill. Driving hard on level ground shouldn’t be as bad.

I’m no expert and open to correction!
