Headroom in new TLX compared to previous gen

I'm currently driving a 2018 TLX Aspec and considering upgrading to a new Type S. My biggest concern is the amount of headroom. I'm a taller guy (6'2") and I find the headroom in my 2018 to be a bit low. If I style my hair up it will often graze the ceiling. Can anybody speak to how the amount of headroom in the new model compares?

Without seeing the previous generation TLX and based on your height, I would say the TLX won’t be any better. However, your best bet is to go to a dealer and simply sit inside one so you can compare for yourself.

Per Acura's specs, front headroom stayed the same and the rear headroom actually dropped. Having been in both, I would say I agree with those numbers.

I've found Edmunds to have the best car comparison tool, here's the 1G (right) and 2G (left) TLX compared with all the internal measurements (which appear to come from Acura's website)
Both cars appear to be within a inch of each other for interior measurements

I'm taller than you and have no issues.

I'm not as tall as you guys (5'11) but headroom in 21 A-Spec feels the same as my old 19 3.5 PAWS, which lines up with Legend's post.

The front seats accommodate my girlfriends dad who is 6”6 but the backseat is uncomfortable for my girlfriend who’s about 5’11. She even stated that when we go to any events with her dad, who obviously sits up front, we’re taking her car from now on.

Thanks to Legend for posting the specs, and they appear identical. So going from a 1G TLX to a 2G TLX-S will likely have similar head room. Keep in mind some of the headroom clearance is based on the angle at which the respective drivers set the seat back. So again comparing 1G to 2G for the same person will likely be the same, but if using other driver's experience or thoughts even with different standing heights, headroom may/can/will vary.

Im 6'2 and I feel that my head is a little more crammed vs my 19 Aspec. It doesn't bother me nor I hit my head. I just lowered the seats all the way down and back and im good. I love the the new type s I don't care about the rear not having much room. I don't have kids and I don't drive ppl around. I treat all my cars like they are a 2 door. The Pro's way outway and con's for me.

Below is a good comparison from previous gen compared to the current:

The loss in headspace is more significant on the rear than forward, but along with side profile comparison.

^ Thanks for posting, that's a great engineering presentation with many technical details
Pretty beefy unibody with six floor pan beams (tunnel has two parallel beams on the slide 27).

That engineering presentation is so good I'll post a few more from it

They can definitely design and build a safe and sturdy sedan. However, I would be worried if they could not by now.

I agree in general but I would not always assume everything is safe out there in new vehicles. The safety standards are raised occasionally so more survivability is promoted. However the 2021 Toyota 4Runner still gets a poor rating for "Structure and safety cage", so even a company like Toyota can get poor safety rating. Body on frame chassis can be difficult to manage impact forces especially in offset frontal.

Thats insanity. I would think Toyota would have designed a better safety cage for all of their vehicles by now.

+1, even with all the modern tech and safety testing tools available I'd imagine it's still very difficult and not the least bit trivial when it comes to designing and engineering a vehicles structure to withstand and distribute the incredible forces in all kinds of impacts.
