Farewell for now
So I sold my TLX in January as we no longer needed 2 cars for now. I am holding out for an EV and have a VW ID.4 AWD on order since March. The wife’s 19 RDX AWD Advance lease is up in August and we started shopping for options. Well with the used car market on fire dealers were offering her $2500 over the lease payoff. Rather than wait and hope she fell in love with the Volvo XC 40 T5 R-Design in Bursting Blue. Well they knocked a few grand off the Volvo and gave her $2500 over her payoff so done deal.
The XC40 is not Same class as RDX as it is smaller, but it rides great, nimble and very quick. I will say the build quality does not feel as solid, especially when you close the doors. The latest Volvo sense infotainment is actually very good. I don’t see me buying a Type-S as I want an EV, so after over 17 years it is time to leave the Acura family. I won’t say never, but I don’t see us coming back any time soon. Loved this forum and will stop by from time to time.
it was a pleasure everyone and of all the car forums I have been in over the years this was by far the best. Everyone be well and safe and best wishes.

Dude. You do know you don't have to leave, right? I've had several periods over the years that I haven't owned an Acura and I've stuck around.
Post about your VW ID in our Car Talk section, which is where ex-Acura owners tend to hang out. I don't know much about it, but the ID sounds like it could be an interesting ride. Good luck with it!

I know, I will pop in form time to tome, but not like when I had my Acuras. I have been on here sine 2004 when I got my 3G TL, over 5,000 posts ago. Even when I owned my Infiniti then my Audi I was here during that 6 year period, mostly becasue the wife had RDXs during that period as well.

My wife picked up an XC40 T5 R-Design in Bursting Blue as well (absolutely gorgeous) and I left Acura for an XC60 T8 Recharge. Still got a 2011 TSX as a third vehicle and I’ll remain here and keeping a close eye on Acura. See what they come up with in 2024 as far as an EV is concerned.

I do realize the EV world is about to burst open over the next 12-24 months, but most of those models will be hard to get. Let’s see how fast the 1500 unit run of EV6 sells out on June 3 and it will not be out until 2022.
I am considering one more lease, but then I wind up with payments in retirement.

OK, took delivery of my new ride. We now have his and hers XC40 Volvos, hers is gas T5 and mine is the P8 EV. I will put the T5 pics in the RDX threads, but here is my EV. 411 HP, 4.7 seconds 0-60 and instant torque.

Awesome! I’ve been looking into one to replace our TLX but the range is giving us some pause. If you’re willing to share, what kind of pricing were you able to get?

I hesitated because of range and the Volvo is not very efficient (although if you drive it nice you can get decent efficiency), but on a very busy weeknd of running around a few weeks ago go all over we only did 85 miles, well within the range of the car. I have no plans to take this on long trips as the EV charging infrastructure for anything other than Teslas is a mess. Will charge at home and use locally. She bought same car in gas T5 (see RDX 3G forum) and our plan is use the EV most of the time when we only need 1 car and in 3-4 years when EV market matures trade her gas XC40 from something more advanced(better range faster charging) and go full EV family. I had a VW ID/4 AWD on order, but was tired of the long wait and one day I drove the VW and Volvo back to back and Volvo (use is is about $7K more) was just an overall better car. Both VW and Volvo have quirks and bugs, part of being an early adopter to EVs. Damn Volvo EV is fast,, almost scary fast.

Yeah, I am in an odd place. I plan on retiring in 5 years and wanted to do a final buy and have it paid off by retirement. Now those that have followed me her and other forums are likely fooling around laughing seeing how often I have flipped cars. I have wanted to move to an EV as I drive less and why keep putting gas and oil in something that sits more. Not to mention the lower cost of ownership. My power company offers 400kwH of power between 12-6am with an EV so basically free charging.

Unlike you, I would actually like a manual transmission V8 car now and spit in the face of the EVs. But my fun and fast money goes into my three motorcycles.
Good luck with your plan

I know it’s not an EV but I went to check out the GV70 in person this afternoon and I was really impressed with the cabin materials and overall fit and finish. I might get the Sport Plus as my new beater, if the test drive goes well.

is the GV70 out, I saw they announced pricing, did not know they were out. Really nice looking SUV, a tad pricy and Genesis/Hyundai cars tend to be thirty I. The twin turbo engines. Rumor is there will be an EV version of that, which I suspect the wife will jump on in 3 years when she want to move to an EV and Hyundai seems to be advancing the EV armed with 800V battery and super fast charging.

Biometric scanner allows you to start the car without having a key fob on you at all. You can scan multiple profiles including for teens for whom you could limit top speed and lock out launch control functions.
Sports models get this much better steering wheel. The two spoke wheel on the standard model looks very old fashioned.
Top trim levels get heated and cooled rear seats with very Range Rover-esque control dials.

Production models won’t be here for another couple of months, but the dealership had a couple of examples on display to allow for people to check out before pre-ordering. There were two actual Korean salespeople at the dealership! That was pretty neat.
