So I sold my TLX in January as we no longer needed 2 cars for now. I am holding out for an EV and have a VW ID.4 AWD on order since March. The wife’s 19 RDX AWD Advance lease is up in August and we started shopping for options. Well with the used car market on fire dealers were offering her $2500 over the lease payoff. Rather than wait and hope she fell in love with the Volvo XC 40 T5 R-Design in Bursting Blue. Well they knocked a few grand off the Volvo and have her $2500 over her payoff so done deal.
The XC40 is not Same class as RDX as it is smaller, but it rides great, nimble and very quick. I will say the build quality does not feel as solid, especially when you close the doors. The latest Volvo sense infotainment is actually very good. I don’t see me buying a Type-S as I want an EV, so after over 17 years it is time to leave the Acura family. I won’t say never, but I don’t see us coming back any time soon. Loved this forum and will stop by from time to time.
it was a pleasure everyone and of all the car forums I have been in over the years this was by far the best. Everyone be well and safe and best wishes.
Good luck Keith as you've been an active AZ member for 17 years (in looking at your profile date).
I see in your sig you've survived an Audi A6 so you probably know what to expect from your Volvo. (read that as light humor and not a dig). Bursting Blue reminds me of the Acura Apex Blue (which is the color of our RDX)...great choice
Actually my A6 was rock solid. I am very nervous about Volvo as their reliability is not great, the only exception seems to be the XC40, but time will tell. We did discuss that owning a Volvo will likely not have the same reliability as our Acuras did, but she really liked the car and her RDX turned her off. I will miss Acura build quality as you can feel the lack of the thud when closing doors on the Volvo and such and some of the cost cutting measures.
That said the Volvo is very light and nimble as it is smaller and lighter than her RDX. It seems noticeably quieter inside than her RDX did. The 12.3 inch LCD gauges cluster is beautiful and you can have the maps in there as well. The Infotainment is actually very good. The older Volvo Sense Infotainment got trashed becasue of lag and such, but they improved it and this is actually better than the Acura mess. Some of the materials feel a tad cheap in the name of "minimalistic Swedish styling", but in the end it is cost cutting to hit a price point for this car. Not to start a debate, but our main hang-up was buying a product from a Chinese company, and yes I know much of what we buy today is made in China, but I do my best to buy American when I can.
The RDX is between the XC40 and XC60 in terms of luxury and quality of materials--XC40 is a slight step down and XC60 is a step up, which can be quite big, depending on trim.

Congratulations. I hope your Volvo proves you wrong and ends up being reliable. I have an XC40 Inscription, which is my third Volvo after owning a few Acuras. I switched to Volvo because I had problems with my last Acura. I haven't experienced any reliability issues Volvo yet.
The first iterations of the new Sensus Infotainment were mostly laggy on start up. My previous XC60 had the early software build and hardware. I rarely experienced problems once the system had a few minutes to start up. I believe Volvo tweaked the software and installed faster processors. The Sensus in my XC40 is quicker. I am hoping Volvo switches all of their vehicles to the Android based system in the XC40 Recharge.
So I just got my new ride, a Volvo XC40 Recharge EV, 411HP and 0-60 in 4.7 seconds. It is the EV twin version of the wife’s XC40 T5. Here is her ride, I just posted pics of the EV in the TLX thread.
