Doors Won't Open with Remote Start

Hi All, It's been a while since I was on here. In March I picked up a 22 A-Spec. I had the OEM remote start added prior to delivery. Within 24 hours I had an issue with it. Occasionally the car will not recognize the key fob is near by and unlock the car when it's remote started. I then have to manually use the key to get in and the car turns off. Took it back to the dealer right away and they replicated the issue immediately. They kept it for the day and said they would order a new control unit for all of the cars electronics. It was on a 3 month backorder. It came in and was installed in June. Within a few days, same problem. Brought it back, they kept it for a while and then returned it to me saying it was escalated to engineering but corporate tech line isn't sure what the problem is so they don't want them randomly trying to replace things. I called Acura Client Relations to complain, they took my info 2 days ago but no call back yet. Any suggestions? Has anyone else had this issue? Thanks!

This is something I’ve randomly experienced with my factory installed system on the Type S. It’s not a constant issue but I’d either have to use the key or shut the car off before entering. I do know that others have experienced this too so you’re not alone.

Yep. It’s one of the reasons I didn’t renew my subscription. I’ve had this happen BOTH with the app and the key fob remote start.

The whole lock/unlock system is buggy. Most times touching the door handle locks and unlocks the car. Sometimes it doesn’t.

I have an Advance Pack so mines came with the remote start fob, but same issue with key fob and app. A couple of months ago Ira acura of Westwood kept mine overnight but couldn't replicate the issue - citing it as a signal issue from my location. Maybe “something was blocking the signal.”

..At the time I lived in a apartment unit on the first floor, and the car was literally parked outside of my window : |... Not only that, but I had a 2015 advance pack at the same location and never had an issue.

I moved across town recently and it's the same thing... The signal between the key fob and car isn't blocked by anything, Acura just sold faulty cars and won't take the time to figure it out. I'm trading this thing in next year.

For reference there was another thread discussing this as early as December of 2021

My rear passenger door handle sensor has gone dead, but it doesn't bother me. Much. The system still communicates with the door lock on that door otherwise. Might ask dealership to look at it, at the next routine maintenance visit.

Thanks for the replies! Client Relations finally got back to me but nothing of any substance. The car is at the dealership again for another issue. I see a number of you have intermittent remote start issues based on the other threat posted above. Has anyone else opened a case with Acura?

I haven’t but that’s because I don’t think it’s worth the effort. It’s something, according to my friend at the dealer, that has been mentioned several times with no fix in sight. Just like the wireless charging pad isn’t capable of charging an iPhone and Acura has known for almost 2 years.

On this and the remote-locking issues ...

I suppose we can all understand some flakey tech with the new models, but not taking customers issues seriously (and not working on fixes) is not excusable. Especially not with Premium-brand cars in this price-range.

I agree.

The wireless charging pad would need to be replaced with a new design as the charging coils don’t line up properly. It appears Acura is expecting Apple to address this with future phones but that doesn’t help with current phones.

I would think the lock issues could be addressed with software because they’re mechanically working fine in most circumstances. This is why the issue is confusing.

Well, trust me, Apple isn't redesigning their phones to work in Acuras. And not sure if this helps, but I can drop my iPhone-SE2-2020 into my Audi's Phone-Box (Wireless Charger and Cellular Signal-Booster) without any care and it charges (and works with Wireless Apple CarPlay and generally with 4G-LTE ) just fine.

It’s possible the SE would work in an Acura because it’s smaller (I think???) and May line up differently. My iPhone 13 Pro doesn’t though.

And of course it helps… because I magically drive an Audi TLX Type S. 😋

I have the same “occasional “ issue with the doors not unlocking after a remote start. I have to shut the motor off to open the door. Strange! I do hope they fix this.

As far as charging my iPhone 12 Pro goes, it was impossible to have it charge up until sometime recently. All of a sudden I noticed that as long as I place it straight within the “box” it will charge successfully. Up until recently it would fail after a few seconds but now it works great.
Is it possible that Apple did tweak something in a recent update to make the charging system more sensitive? Sounds unlikely but there is definitely a 100% improvement in the charging ability of my iPhone 12 Pro.

Brand new ‘22 TLX A-Type Tech 1 week old. I have had the same issue. I do not have the remote start fob / module (it is on order but not yet installed). Had to use manual key as car would not respond at all to the fob. No lock or unlock. Has happened twice.

I heard from the dealer they have a few customers with this issue. I’ve had an open case with engineering and client relations for almost 4 months. No resolution… I have ongoing infotainment issues, hvac blower replaced, and rotors replaced at 5k. This is the least reliable Acura I’ve ever had and I just hit the 6k mark…

I was immune to this issue when I had my A-Spec. Didn’t realize this was such a problem. My list of complaints was already quite extensive!

Coincidentally, I also had a blower failure as well that took 2 weeks to repair. I laugh every time someone in AZ refers to “Acura reliability” simply because it’s a Japanese company. Now I know how it feels to own an American car from the 80s and 90s!

What other issues did you have. This has by far been my most problematic Honda product. My 05 RL had some issues but it was loaded with brand new technology so it was somewhat expected. Nothing in the TLX is exactly ground breaking.

My God it’s so depressing reading these threads. I traded in my much better built Ford Mustang for this Acura because I always heard about the high level of quality. Boy did I get suckered. I wish I could get my Mustang back. 460 horse’s and it gave me the same gas mileage as this thirsty 4 cylinder Acura. Now add in the list of peculiar issues and it becomes rather sad.
