2024 Type S Test Drive!
2024 Type S Test Drive!
Hey all,
Has anyone here had the chance to drive the 24' Type S? I finally had the opportunity yesterday while my car was being serviced. I have a 23' Type S, and honestly, I didn't notice much of a difference (if at all) between the two vehicles. Yes, the 24' has some nice new features (I LOVE the 360' camera). The digital gauges are also pretty cool, but I think I prefer the analog gauges on my 23'.
I know that the vehicle is supposed to be quieter, but I didn't notice a difference.
Is anyone thinking about dumping their 21-23' Type S for a 24? I thought about it briefly, but I can't justify the extra cost to do so. However, I do like that Urban Gray color, especially in person!
Just curious what all of your thoughts are after driving the new 24'.

My usual Acura store has two of the 24 Type S in urban gray. As I'm bringing my A-Spec today for A1 service, I fully expect them to attempt (or should I say, keep on attempting) a "power play" to get me to trade up.
If I did pull the trigger, would definitely look into getting it wrapped in a different color.

They definitely made some improvements in the sound deadening department. I honestly never found my 21 A-Spec to have a "noisy" interior though my old 19 3.5 PAWS was a quieter ride. However, the 24 Type S is a noticeably more serene ride in Comfort/Normal mode.
Behind the wheel, there's no question that this Type S is dynamically different than my A-Spec (tune and tire upgrade notwithstanding) and definitely appreciate being able to confidently toss a 4200 lb sedan around twisties with relative ease. Also, I can get quite used to enjoying that exhaust note (Sport/Sport+ modes) and V6 smoothness.
.....I have some decisions to make here. (stay tuned)
I doubt many 21’-23’ TLX-S owners will make the jump; the new features on the 24’ are nice, but in my opinion, I don’t think it’s enough to justify the switch. If I was in the market now for a TLX-S, I would definitely get a 24’ model year.
I test drove a 2023 model for 3-4 hours and love the car. As far as the 2024 goes, I sat inside one and checked the gauges, larger screen and new front grill. We already had the 360 in Canada and unfortunately Acura screwed up by not giving us HUD!
Based on my observation, there is no point to switch from 2021-2023 to 2024. Not significant changes and yes, I love the old gauges. Call me old school but it's charming than digital.

I have a 22 ASpec and had a 24 Aspec as a loaner last week. Noticed zero difference in the road / tire noise. Don't care for the new rims. Prefer the old school analog gauges for sure. The only positives I can think of is the 2 years of covered maintenance and the wireless Apple CarPlay.
Would never dump my 2023 TLX-S for a 2024, it’s not worth it and financially dumb seeing as I’ll take the first year depreciation hit in trade value.
360 camera is cool and so is the digital gauges & HUD but the analog is cool and the other features just aren’t game changing enough to warrant a trade in.
Also I can’t get a 2024 TLX-S in Performance Red so that makes it a no go in my book. I like the color and it’s nice. I get compliments daily on my TLX and mainly it’s pointed towards the color
i probably could think about getting a 2024 if I could get Tiger Eye on Ebony Interior but that combo is also cut for the 2024 TLX.
I’ll be fine in my Performance Red 2023 TLX

Enjoy it brother!
I too am disappointed in the lack of colors and combinations on the 2024 models, both Type S and A Spec. For that matter Urban Grey is a Honda color and should not even be offered on an Acura. If Acura is a premium brand then they should have unique colors not rehashed Honda ones !!!

Truthfully speaking if Acura offered Performance Red Pearl with Orchid interior I would’ve gone with that as it’s such a nice combo choice
I've not seen many production paint colors that have the depth, sparkle and pop of PRP!

I share your disappointment in the lack of colors and combinations, it was high on the list of reasons why I ultimately didn't replace my old '07 Type-S with a new one.
I'm happy they addressed two of my other major issues: 360 camera and HUD. I think they should have also given the engine a bit of a boost. It was at the lower end of the field compared to its competitors when it was introduced, especially when you consider its size and weight.
I can't understand why even the PMC cars left off the Advance features and had so few color choices. The European luxury manufacturers have typically more standard choices and programs to go beyond that. When I decided to move on and buy something different the manufacturer had a website where I could pick from over 130 different colors and finishes of paint as well as a variety of leathers and colors.
I feel sometimes like Acura likes to fight with one arm tied behind their back, and tie it themselves.

All the luxury cars offer Grey these days. Often in a semi-gloss or matt finish. I certainly would never buy one, but I've missed out on many fads in my lifetime.

Chicago Auto Show exhibited the '24 Type S, in Urban Grey. Lexus displayed the '24 RC 350 F Sport, pretty much exactly in the same color, that they call "Incognito". Both were drawing a lot of crowds. I think I overheard at least 3 people commenting on the Lexus to the effect of "Wow nice car, but I'd never buy one". Type S was getting, "Wow nice car, I could see myself buying this".
Count me out to select Urban Grey on any Acura model.
The point is Urban Grey is a Honda color on many of their models. Acura can offer a grey color of course but it should be exclusive to Acura not a "shared" color with Honda's. Come on Acura this is penny pinching in a foolish way, I cant think of any other reason they are doing this.

I'll be honest, I was behind a new Odyssey and new Civic BOTH in Sonic Gray Pearl....and then saw yet another Odyssey in SGP minutes later. So, not only is it shared with Honda, it's uniqueness is fading by the minute it seems.

Honda and Acura have shared paint colors in the past, and while I'm not thrilled about it I can accept it in certain situations.
And maybe I'm biased because I just don't like "chalk" colors on cars, but I think urban gray would be about the last color I would want on a TLX.

Sonic Grey Pearl is pretty different from Urban Grey Pearl. Acura has never used Sonic Grey Pearl, thankfully, as it has become very popular on most Honda models. Interestingly, on the current Accord and CR-V, Urban Grey Pearl seems to have replaced Sonic Grey Pearl on the palate. Sonic Grey Pearl remains available on the Civic, Passport, Pilot, Ridgeline and Odyssey. I don't see an issue with borrowing ordinary colors like white, silver, grey and black from Honda, the "special" colors really should be unique. They mostly do this with colors like Performance Red Pearl, Apex Blue Pearl, Phantom Violet Pearl, Tiger Eye Pearl, and even Liquid Carbon Metallic. Since the cement-grey shade is so trendy right now, they probably should have come up with a unique version of that too.
Black looks good on a TLX, too. I normally hate black cars - but black on a TLX makes it look very Batmobile. A good thing.
Also - It seems like every YouTube reviewer has been furnished the Urban Grey 2024 Type S to review. Acura is really pushing the color. For me, usually grey = drab. On the RC 350 I saw at the auto show, the grey looked a LOT less drab - but the RC 350, in my opinion, is an absolutely gorgeous car. The grey does look pretty good on the Type S, too, I have to admit.

I ended up going with MSM. It's nice, but kind of a boring color. Next car I get will be another bold color for sure. Although, I do like the Urban Gray color - in fact, my dealership currently has one in stock.
I completely agree with you about black TLX's! Although, that Apex Blue is amazing as well! I had a 21' RDX Aspec Apex Blue prior to the TLX-S, and that color just "popped" in the sunlight. I received SO many compliments on the color. I wish I would have gotten the Type S in that color as well.

….actually may make an offer, consider swapping out of the A-Spec.
I know @KrylonBlue would be so happy to see you considering the 2nd best color on the TLX over the 1st best color *cough cough* Performance Red

not bad especially if the numbers are right price-wise all in…. My only question for you is you sure you wanna go from performance red to apex blue?

Yes, the white over red looks great! The Apex Blue is definitely my favorite color, and I kind of regret not getting the Type S in that color.
