2021 TLX Type S Maintenance
2021 TLX Type S Maintenance
I just took my 21 TLX Type S in for it's second oil change at just under 20,000km as the oil life was at 5%, and they told me I also had a A169 code saying I need to change the rear differential fluid and something with the rear brakes with everything costing just under $500cdn. I was not expecting to have to do any maintenance work at this point other than the oil change and was wondering if anyone else had that A169 code and if it is really needing immediate attention. Thanks for your thoughts!

Rear diff fluid change is correct, first one is at 12,000miles (close to 20,000km). Thats just the first one then every change there after is longer i believe, like 40-60,000km interval. All Acuras shawd cars are the same in that regard. Oil change in canada at acura is about 120-130, and lubing/cleaning brakes is probably about the same cost. Doesnt seem crazy, you could probably skip the brake cleaning if your looking to save a buck. For people thinking thats a lot remember this is canada monopoly money, it costs $1.33 canadian to buy $1.00 us.

I would definitely skip the brake cleaning/lube. That is a total waste of money, especially with your low mileage. It's just an easy money grabber for the dealership. I've talked to several ASE mechanics where I currently work, and they all stated that the brake service is a total waste of money. However, the differential fluid should definitely be done! Good luck!
rear differential fluid change doesn't cost too much. i would say it's just a bit more expensive than oil change. there's nothing wrong for dealership to "recommend" those services. they do it properly (most of the time) and any maintenance would help keep the car in good shape.
you can buy the fluid yourself and get it changed at independent shops
