2021 TLX Owner's Thread
This infotainment system is poorly designed and full of glitches. If I plug my phone in before it fully boots up it’ll stop responding with Apple CarPlay and I will need to unplug it and connect again. In some instances I’ve had to reboot my car fully or wait a bit just to control volume or any other controls. Last week my screen was frozen on CarPlay and even the time didn’t change. I shut it down quickly at a light and it was a black screen. Only after I got home and shut it down for 5 minutes did it reset and fix itself.
Acura needs to fix these issues asap. I love the design but the actual reliability of the system is poor.

All of my issues are related to CarPlay though.

You all need to ditch iPhone and go Android. I use my wireless Android Auto dongle with my Samsung phone and it has worked perfectly... it has never crashed on me and it loads up in about 25 seconds. Cheaper to change phones then cars.
My only issue with the system is having to reboot sometimes to get Apple Carplay to load. I find that plugging the phone in just a few seconds after the infotainment system begins to load works quite well. I have also noted that rebooting the system (open door, and restart the car) always works when it doesn't load the first time. I agree it can be a little annoying, but I had periodic issues with my Hyundai Tucson loaner as well, so not a completely unique problem. However the difference is the sound system is so exquisite that I can forgive the minor inconvenience. That, and the looks, and the handling.

It's embarrasing to do in the middle of the street at a stop light but it works.
I won’t do that but do agree that this may be more to do with the iPhone’s connectivity with this system than anything else. My experience has been wonky with my iPhone 12 Pro but my daughter’s iPhone X seems to work just fine.
Maybe a shot in the dark here, but have you tried different cables? CarPlay has worked really well for me using Anker and Apple cables. I can get in the car, start it, plug in my phone, and Apple CarPlay works pretty much right away after the infotainment system "catches up" and finishes booting. I have an iPhone 13 Pro.
Another thing that may help is making sure your phone is unlocked when you plug it in. No need to be on the homescreen, but having it unlocked via FaceID when I plug it in has worked well for me. CarPlay otherwise won't start if the phone's locked (not sure if this is a security setting somewhere or something).

Worked great for us. We paid/subscribed to Acura-Link and bought/loaded the Acura NAV-DVD every couple of years. We used all features, including on-board NAV (helpful and easy to use), ripping CDs to its internal jukebox-drive, BlueTooth phone, XM-Radio, iPhone App, etc.
Didn't have CarPlay but never really missed it.
That's pretty strange about AC-blower motor going out already. At least you got it fixed-up before Summer.
I have discovered that connecting my IPhone 11 to the infotainment system after it has booted to the Disclaimer screen has worked over 40 consecutive times. No need to open doors and reconnect. Its a Festivus Miracle!
At least you found your solution. I’m just waiting for Acura to release the update to enable wireless CarPlay/Auto. Not sure when that’ll come out but there’s talk about it on FB.
I have gone 10 days or so with flawless Carplay connection, whether I use the method I described above, or connect before or after the disclaimer. Perhaps the system has "learned" to make the connection. As for Wireless Carplay, my Sales Manager tells me they have had issues with it.
I've gone a number of months now with almost zero issues with Carplay. A quality Anker USB cable plays a part in this, I believe. But the infotainment's lack of ability to multitask on startup is the main thing to be aware of. As the last few posters have mentioned, waiting to connect your phone until the disclaimer screen goes away is important, but I think waiting about 20 seconds later for the onboard nav to load up is also important. You can tell when the compass heading shows up in the center gauge cluster right above the odometer - when "N" or "S" or "SE" etc. or whatever appears there, that means the system is all loaded up. Then you connect your phone and the car only has to handle the infodump from and to your phone and nothing else; and for me at least this has worked consistently well. Until of course the inevitable day the ticking time bomb that is the infotainment wiring harness issue that's been widely reported decides to deliver its knee-buckling kick squarely to my gentleman's area.
I've been using this for Wireless CarPlay, it has booted and automatically connected every time I get in the car.
The other version of CarlinKit 3.0, would not boot after the initial configuration and connecting to my iPhone 12 Pro.

I also have optimized charging disabled on my iPhone so the wireless charger works while using Wireless CarPlay.
Edit: Ordered with the $10 off coupon that they offer right now. Will give it a try and see if it works for me. Thank you

I may check that out then. I have optimized charging enabled but I wouldn’t be against disabling it if it meant no more wires. I can’t understand why Acura didn’t have wireless CarPlay from the factory on the new Gen TLX. I shouldn’t be surprised by the Audio quality as it’s using a Wi-Fi type signal right? I know it’s not Bluetooth.

Correct, it’s over WiFi. Bluetooth is only used to setup the initial CarPlay connection.
A quick tip when you get it, go in to the Settings and set the Startup Delay to 10 sec. I set this based on others saying to wait until disclaimer goes away to plug in hardwire.
I get genuine Apple cables and accessories at either Apple.com, BestBuy or BH-Photo. Only other company I trust with Apple cables (or anything that physically connects to phone) is Anker. They are a real company.
So, you know ... there is a tiny power-regulator chip in the Lightning Connector. Companies are suppose to license the Apple tech and use genuine chips. A fake/cloned chip or cable might pass Apple's "genuine check" but might end-up damaging iPhone or it's battery.

It’s really nice not having to plug anything, just place phone, it charges and CarPlay starts.

I should have it on Sunday.
Initially, before I discovered the strategy of letting everything boot up fully before plugging in the phone, I upgraded to an Anker cable. This mitigated the problem but didn't eliminate it entirely. So, yes - I would say that an Anker cable is a definite good idea.

One thing I did notice is skipping songs has a second delay or so. Basically like Bluetooth does. Hopefully call quality is okay.

I’ll post more thoughts on the wireless CarPlay adapter once I’ve been able to use it more but for 20 minutes today it worked great.
I will say that I don’t think the 10 second delay is necessary. The unit has to boot up and it appears to take longer than the time needed for the car to boot it’s infotainment up. I’ll be testing without the 10 second delay.
Edit: Two 25 minute drives with no issue thus far. Audio quality sounds great and the 10s delay on boot up isn’t necessary.

I don’t understand why considering I use Anker Qi chargers at home daily with no issue.
Thanks to the folks here, I decided to go wireless and purchased the CarlinKit 2022 Mini Wireless CarPlay Adapter. Easy to set up and so far so good. Although I had solved the connection issue prior to purchase, its nice to be able to leave your phone in your pocket if you are running multiple errands and don't need to charge.
Thanks again!

The pad charges my 11, but not at the rate of plug in. However, in the few times I might want that, I will simply connect the phone at the disclaimer screen which hasn't failed me yet. Good luck with the wireless charging issue for your IPhone version. Lets hope they provide a fix soon!
