2021 TLX Owner's Thread
The pad charges my 11, but not at the rate of plug in. However, in the few times I might want that, I will simply connect the phone at the disclaimer screen which hasn't failed me yet. Good luck with the wireless charging issue for your IPhone version. Lets hope they provide a fix soon!
questions for northern owners
I am considering the 2021/22 TLX and would like to know how the heat is in winter. It gets very cold here in Manitoba Canada and my 2014 ILX could not provide enough heat.
This is very noticeable along the bottom of the doors. It had no rear ducting and the TLX does so that might help. How are owners from northern climates finding the comfort when driving in winter?
Remote start is a must and having read this thread I am unsure whether it is included or not. Some posts say there are actually two different types of remote starters, some say that feature is only available as an app. Can I get the definitive answer on this?
The lack of a spare tire is weird but I have found that this can be purchased to fit where the spare and tools should have gone. But if there is no autostart as well what else is missing?
I did not due my due diligence with the ILX purchase and assumed that the 2014 would have tire pressure monitoring as my 2008 Toyota had. Nope. So prior to purchase this time around I would like to find out anything I can pre purchase, any help in this regard to the questions above is appreciated.

2) Remote start is always available via paid subscription from the app. Advance owners have the remote start on the key fob so it's included in the trim. I think Canadian version of the trim is the "Elite".
3) A spare tire has been missing since even the days of the G1 TLX. The spare tire kit can be purchased separately. You should be able to find the part number via thread search.
Thanks very much for the prompt informative reply. I am shocked about the remote starter. In your opinion is anything else missing that should be included or that you have said gee I wish blank would have been included.
I am referring to what are considered as standard features that should be included in any luxury vehicle in 2021/22 such as the remote starter and tire pressure monitoring, not pie in the sky stuff.
Shame on my dealer as I specifically asked about the remote starter he did not say it is model dependent or even mention an app.
Something else I noted in this thread was members were saying only the Elite had power folding mirrors. I drove a 2021 A Spec recently and the mirrors closed when the vehicle locked. Maybe its a Canada USA thing like the tire pressure monitors where one country got the option while the other didn't.

Then, hardware-options and features greatly depend on Trim-level and if it's 2.0T vs Type-S-V6. Even year-models matter.
If you are like me (looks are important, but more so are other things like actual features) ... I suggest you make a list. In an excel spreadsheet. features go down the left column, models across the top row (that's what I did),

It would help if we knew if you were buying a USA model or a Canadian model.

I am in Canada as I said a few posts back. No point in making a features list if the manufacturer hides the fact it has no spare or that the remote starter is trim level dependent. The features list at Acura.ca is full of errors as well. I can thank this group for informing me about the missing spare and now about the remote starter. I just hope there is not another surprise waiting.
Since Canada ... yeah, I would definitely suggest making a list. I've seen some of the Canadian changes. I know the (USA) car/features well, and even I can't give definitive answers about all the options on various Canadian trim levels. I suggest you find the detailed Canadian option-matrix ( similar to the USA specific ones we have).
Nothing is "hidden". I was just trying to help you, and maybe not end-up like before.

That's why these owner's threads exist. These forums are better for the info you really need!
Sorry, didn't notice you actually said Canada. If you continue to participate here, it would "help us help you" if you add that to your profile so it appears by your name and avatar.

The manufacturer an dealer are hiding the fact that there is no spare. I have told this to I don't know how many people that look at me and say it doesn't have what? Then they run and check their own vehicle for one. The dealer should make you sign that you understand there is no spare tire or tools included rather than having to find out the hard way on a deserted stretch of highway one cold winter evening.
Apparently all trim levels in Canada have the remote starter included and do not require a subscription to an app to use.
Kiwi2000, there's a short list of known TLX issues here:

Instead of giving us the spare tire, the Honda/Acura does include a sealant/inflator kit which can be used to temporary fix flat tires, even though this is not the optimal solution.
So the lack of spare tire may not be such a big deal to most.
Yeah, I like real spare tires also.
Our 2014 MDX Tech shAWD came with one (it was mounted underneath back of vehicle). But if IIRC, not because it was Tech-trim, but because it had shAWD. It was correctly mentioned in literature at the time. I'm guessing this policy continued into further years on 3G-MDX.
My Audi-A5 came with one. What's nice is then you not only get the one that matches (upgraded) 19in wheels, but also don't have to go track one down as parts. I hope to never use it.

I can tell you I take any verbal/email communications with a "grain of salt". I verify with official docs, or if car is released ... go down to dealer and look at one (and the window sticker).
And again, this is just one of maybe 100 different things cars have now (especially when you include the Tech and it's abilities).
Nowadays more and more base trims Honda/Acura vehicles (in additional to the TLX) don't come with a spare tire, but the factory makes it available as an customer ordered option, just like floor mats, trunk liner, body kit, engine heater, etc, etc.

There is no option to purchase a spare tire kit from Acura Canada. No part number, if I want one I have to order from the USA and then deal with the border issues. But first things first and that is to secure the vehicle. Thanks to everyone I am more prepared this time around.
My local Canadian dealer tried to get the kit for me when I bought my TLX, but the kit was on back order and with an unknown ETA. I ended up buying the kit from the US, and FedEx did all the import/custom paperwork without any hassle.
Thanks for the link! I know Remote Start may be a requirement so that's why I pointed that out in my review. I had it on my MDX and only used it twice. I might use it in the winter during my 6 month trial to warm up the car but I'm definitely not paying for it later.
In the summer, I normally hold the unlock button to open all the windows as I approach the car to let out all the hot air (I'm hoping it's the same on the TLX but I haven't tested). I believe this is more effective in cooling down the car than using remote start just to turn on the A/C but not letting the air out.

I use that remote window feature also but I find I need to be so close to the car for it to work I might as well open the door and get in. With my Mustang I could easily be three to four times the distance and it would work.
Not surprising to say the least. When I was shopping around, one dealer told me I had to step up to the Advance trim for the best sound system (not true since the A-Spec and Advance have the same 3D ELS system). I doubt Acura spends a lot on training. They have bigger fish to fry like securing semiconductor chips!

Second example, I know someone that got a new BMW 3 Series and the dealer told him about M package Mugs but now the car has completely different ones. Once again misinformed by the dealer.
In general, do your own research, go to different dealers, read Facebook groups and ask friends and family if they have the same car. That's the best way to purchase a car and not rely on any dealer or brand. Acura is no exception or worse than any other brand.
I never had a problem with that. I could open my windows by remote in my 2nd floor home.
It's not just Acura but all dealers or at least most have very limited knowledge and mislead buyers. My cousin spent over $80K for a Lexus RX and the dealer misinformed him about towing capacity and hitch. Now he is stuck without one and of course the dealer doesn't give a sh1t!

Went searching for an SUV, my routing capacity for a larger boat. Various dealers including Nissan, Cadillac, and Chevy were either clueless regarding capacity or said “it barely makes it but you’ll be fine”.
Another time when E90s were fairly new, was looking at used one for a family member. The dreaded radio LCD fade issue started to occur with it. I told the salesman that we’d only purchase it if they replaced the radio. The BMW salesman acted clueless about it as if it never occurs. I asked him if he’d like to see the radio in my car to see what eventually happens.
For a pre-facelift ILX, I had an Acura salesman trying to sale it but saying it’s basically the same as the new facelift and has AA/CP, and driver assists.
Some people are making it sound like people who buy an Acura have only bought Acuras and have never owned anything else which is rather silly to assume.

Agreed! I have been with a lot of family and friends in different dealerships. I can say with confident that 90% of dealers don't know or they know but pretend they don't know. Your best friend is your own research
Don't depend on dealers info. I am very lucky to have an amazing Acura dealer and I deal with the same person for years. But still I do my research before going to see him for anything.

I ordered my new car without the standard runflat tires, so they provide the inflator kit in that case. I also ordered a real spare in lieu of the inflator. Only $150, factory installed.
Many manufacturers are also going to "run flat" tires so you don't even get the inflator kit. While you can theoretically drive a limited distance on them, you pay a penalty in ride quality. The very stiff sidewalls that allow you to drive without air in the tire make for a very stiff ride when they have air.

They are a double negative. As you point out, the thicker sidewalls increase unsprung weight. The overall weight of the car also increases, and the stiffer sidewalls hurt handling, destroy ride comfort and transmit more shock from bumps and potholes to the wheels.
Quick question: I really want the TLX TYPE S but I need to wait a little more before I switch to booster seats for my kids, then pull the trigger. But I cam across this car: https://www.acuramontrealcentre.com/...lx/type-s/2021
I am thinking to go and get it lol! But that would be very irrational. Anyway, what's your take on the pricing?
Thanks,

I recall reading something a few months back about that because someone was wanting to import a Canadian Spec Civic Si because it’s equipped better than the US one, and there was a lot of discussion about how if you keep the car in the country for over a certain period of time, it won’t be eligible for warranty.
No idea if that’s true or not, but if you’re seriously considering it, you might want to look in to it more seriously.

Type S brand new in Canada is only ~ $2,000 more then that, we just straight up pay less for more. That price is actually almost $2500 MORE then what it cost new. was $59,500 in 2021, now starts at $64,006. Glad i got mine in 2021, its $4,500 more 3% higher interest rate, and we cant get apex blue in type S any more. You are in a great spot to wait for the MMC when you are closer to booster seat time. I dont see the point personally in spending so close to new price (with a used car interest rate probably even closer) for a 2 year old car when your kids wont fit in it. Stay strong brother.
Thanks fam for your input and help.
Just for those that informed me about U.S and Canada. I am actually Canadian and this car is for sale in my city. so no problem from warranty stand point of view. I called to book a test drive but they have to get back to me. I will give it a try
and let you know! With the high interest rates, who knows, i maybe able to reduce the cost!
