Tire pressure difference
Tire pressure difference
Hi guys, I was wondering if all 4 tires needs to be the same kpa. Is it an issue if all of them are different by 10kpa or so? Just want to know because my TLX is like that. Thanks!
^^ I know that our metric system makes things look worse than it as 10 KPa is ~ 1 PSI so that is not as bad as it appears. You can try and top them all up....I know I am a bit OCD so I would play with the individual tires until all sensors would show the same number but it can be annoying to do
Ahh okay..I've never had a car where I can actually monitor the pressure. So at what range of difference should I be worried and pump the tires back up? I use to just rely on the low tire pressure warning.
^^ Everyone has their own threshold of what they deem acceptable but for me, I keep my tires at 35 PSI and when they drop to 32 or 33, I top them up.
Keep in mind to check them BEFORE you drive your car and they get warm.

32 psi is the recommended tire pressure, but lots of owners adjust tire pressure to the liking (comfort and driving style). Some stagger the pressure to help prevent under steer and others will go a little higher psi to help with MPG. You also need to keep in mind ambient environmental temperatures. In other words tire pressure will rise in Summer temps and drop in Winter temps. Typically its 1 PSI for every 10 degrees temp change.

You are fine. For me personally I keep mine at 34 psi / 235 kpa and keep all tires within 1 psi / 7 kpa, but that's me.

I seem to recall reading that for my TL Type S, Michelin recommended a 2psi difference between the front and rear (34 front, 32 rear). That is what the dealership set mine at after the 1st A1 service and it seems give added stability in cornering while keeping the ride smooth.
The TL is also front wheel drive....
Just like nbp04 has stated twice...lol... You can play with pressure to get exactly what you want from the vehicle and tires. Staggering the pressure on a front wheel drive like the dealers had done for you, helps with under steer

Doesn't your system beep when you reach the correct pressure?
Monitoring is good, but listening to a beep is quite easy to get back to normal. Normal provided you like 32 psi.
Referring to OPs issue not weather's.

Jeff at vtec.net felt that the SH-AWD was noticeably better with 39 psi front / 32 psi rear in terms of handling and grip.

when the tire pressure reaches lower than the threshold it will beep at you.
and I believe that threshold is set at 30-28lbs.
I want to say MOST CARS operate this way. so, if your TLX operates the opposite of this, it would be really really fucking weird.

as you can see from the chart, upping the front tire pressure WILL DECREASE UNDERSTEER.
