Will Acura ever address the poor camera quality issue?

2017 Acura TLX sh-awd
after countless complaints about the poor color camera quality and horrific night vision of the backup camera, is Acura gong to come out with a fix? RDX and MDX work fine.
Dealership says we need t get a bunch of owners together to complain to Acura. I thought this site did that?

As this is a forum, we only make up a very small percentage of TLX owners. I'm sure you can get a few people on board, but honestly the camera works well enough for me.

Well, I really "hate" the video quality. So far nothing in my backup window has had good enough quality for a feature film. Not even for a viral YouTube video! On the other hand, I can tell if there is something I might back into. Maybe that is what the camera was intended to do?

My wife just got a 2017 Honda HRV with the LaneWatch blind spot camera. Beautiful image. Good for her but I am disappointed my TLX doesn't have this camera quality.

I look at it a few seconds a day and can easily make out things like cars and people. It is not like I'm watching a HD movie. It is good enough. I'm sure as time goes on the quality of these cameras improves and will find its way into the car. But while not the best quality, not a deal breaker either.

The 2013 TL I had had a nice camera view. Although one view back then.
2015 TLX was very distorted and looked bad.
2019 now again looks like they have it with higher resolution again.

To answer the OP's question, not likely. It would involve a hardware change, which will not happen. Maybe on the 2nd generation (2020+) depending on the selected hardware. Honda (and most automakers other than Tesla) will not update anything unless they *have to* (safety reason, recall, etc).
If you want a higher resolution camera, you will need to change the car

I have a 2018 TLX Aspec and I agree that the image quality of the camera is poor/distorted. I have a 2013 TL as well and that is much clearer with no issues night or day. A vehicle that’s 5 years newer I would have expected the same or better quality on the camera.

If the new RDX has better backup camera then the next-gen TLX should have similar camera.

Currently driving a 19' Advance loaner, and the camera is day and night different from my 16' 4cyl. I was actually able to see at night in the dark lol.

I just recently drove a '19 SH-AWD Advance loaner and the cameras were horrible. Very dim, dark and grainy. Even the cameras for the 360 view were horrible. I thought my '15 I4 Tech camera was bad. I didn't think it could get worse, but I was proven wrong. Not very encouraging!

Have any of your cleaned your camera lenses recently? I keep a microfiber cloth in the trunk with a can of industrial window cleaner from Costco... I also apply a bit of rainx every now and then to repel some of the moisture+dirt that sprays up on them.

So I work at a dealer, we all know the camera quality SUCKS in my 15 TLX. The new 19 RDX has a awesome backup camera (except the advance 360 camera is still garbage for whatever reason)

I noticed the new 19 ILX backup camera is outstanding compared to the crappy one in the 18. So looks like they are improving them but not the TLX....prob the 2021 model or whenever its updated

I agree. My 2014 TL's camera was far superior to my 2017 TLX. That being said so were the seats, steering wheel, interior, transmission...

Is it possible to simply swap out the TLX camera for the ILX one? Can I simply remove mine from the wire harness and install an ILX camera in it's place?

I don't know if i got the right part, but camera assemblies were going for $800+ for a 2018 ILX. I'd attempt a swap for $80, for $800 no way.

I look in the backup camera to see if there are any cars or people walking behind me. For that it is just fine. I've never understood the obsession with the quality of a camera that I look into literally a few seconds a day.

Poor Color in TLX Backup Camera

I wish I had checked this blog earlier having had the camera replaced on my 2017 TLX and still seeing brown grass in bright sunlight. Camera sharpness is fine but color looks like someone dialed it down. Yes, glass is wiped clean.
Honda/Acura HQ client service is obviously not aware of any of these issues.
