Angry Severe paint chipping

Good morning,
I was wondering if anyone has noticed paint chips on their 2018 TLX?? My car has 13,500 miles and was purchased in April 2018. I do not take the interstate to work, my car is garage kept!! I started noticing a few chips in Sept/Oct. 2018. I have kept check and now have over 25 paint chips on the hood, both front corner panels! I have contacted my salesman and Acura Client Relations. They gave me a claim number and told me to take it to my dealership to have them document the chips and they will decide the next step. Does anyone know if this is an issue with the paint possibly? Mine is the San Marino Red. I take very good care of my car, always have and this is very upsetting to me to have a brand new car that is just a year old and is loaded with paint chips. I have lived in the same area all my life and have had many Honda Accords and Acura TL's and never had this happen before.

I have a 2016 and my hood got a few paint chips as well, some were very noticeable. Mine is white and the touch up paint from Acura doesn't help one bit =( I do noticed couple loaners I driven had couple of rock chips as well. I used to have a 13' Accord and for 2.5 yrs, I only had 1 chip, and it was barely noticed unless I know where to look for it. I don't think Acura paint is as good as other =\

I think you are right...Acura paint is not very good! I have owned a few Accords and a 2005 TL and 2012 TL and they did not have anywhere near the chips my new one does when I traded them with 75,000 miles on them. My route to work, where I live, nothing has changed! If I were to do touch-up paint on mine, it would be a hot mess with all the chips I have! I have a case started and a case number to give the dealership. I'm going to get the recall fixed for the fuel pump, and while there address the issue of the paint with them. Thank you for your reply. Wish me luck!

I am in the same boat. I purchased Acura TLX A-Spec in San Marino Red in May 2018 from NJ dealer. I have seen 8-9 spots where paint has been chipping where my father's BMW which is Chestnut Bronze paint , doesn't have any paint chips on hood in last 2 years.

I am yet to report this to Acura but I will do the same as you did and see what happens. I also have fuel lid which is not flushed with rear panel. Hopefully, I can get that fixed when I go to dealer for next service.

Definitely call Acura Client Relations and file a complaint. I'm hoping the dealership in VA where I purchased my car will be willing to fix the chips! I hope you get your issues resolved as well. I have chips not only on the hood but both front panels, passenger rear panel and two small ones on the roof!

OP, you should post pictures of the paint chips. I'm interested to see it. This is my second TLX, I learned my lesson and decided to wrap the whole front end with paint protection film.

How much is the protection film? Is it a DIYer option or need to have someone install it? Thanks.

Same here, 2018 and have more chips in the hood than my 07 TL that I had for 10 years. Granted that car was silver and now I have blue but the paint quality is very poor as far as durability is concerned. Probably 5 or 6 chips out of it already. 18k miles, won't have it much more than another year or so. The silver color may cover it up more. I don't think I would opt for a dark color again. If they had the A-Spec in silver I would have gone that way.
