4G TL Paint problem??? Severe chipping!

Hello Ziners,

Not sure if anyone has experienced this but I bought my CPO 2012 Acura TL about two years ago and about a year ago I washed and waxed my car only to find a horror I hope no Ziners experience. Paint chips on your front bumper so bad it is embarrassing. Well here I am one year later not fixing the problem out of fear it will happen again due to inferior paint that Acura makes. My thought is, when I buy a new car and decide to trade it in I will do get a paint and body guy to do a cheap coating so it looks fine and I screw over the stealership. Any thoughts? Feedback? Advise? Here are some pictures of what I'm talking about.

I have had several Acura TL's and never had a problem with paint chips other then the normal rock chips from the highway. Have it repainted and put a clear mask on it. It looks like your front bumper was painted before and they did a poor job

Thanks @myacuratl10,

I have the carfax it was a 1 owner and no accidents reported but I think it rear ended someone and they (stealership) did a crappy paint job to cover it up. I intend to do the same thing to them and get a brand new MDX.

@kurtatx

are you happy with your A4? I went from a vw Passat to the TL thinking it was going to be superior in quality but thinks are just falling apart in my TL. No problems with engine components just dreading that they put a damn timing belt in the TL. Thinking about either the MDX or Q5 but scared as I had a lot of problems with my b5.5..

My 05 TL never had a accident but one day a muffler flew up and hit my bumper. I had it replaced out my own pocket, so things do happen. Good luck on whatever u do

As bumpers become nicked, many dealers paint the bumpers before resale and it certainly won't reflect any damage on the CarFax report. If chipping, they did a quick crappy job and poor prep.

I love love love my TL but the paint acura uses is on the cheaper side. ive seen many posts with complaints about paint chipping, especially common with black paint. i have a silver one and have a few hardly noticeable chips up front. i only notice cause m obsessed with the car and get outraged at every minor blemish.

Yuck. That looks awful. I'd have a body shop do a full teardown and respray of the bumper. I had it done for about $600, which is probably on the pricy side. It was from a very reputable shop that did an excellent job on a small rear end accident I had a few years prior when an old lady cracked my rear bumper at a stop light.

That looks horrible buddy. Just get a new paint job. That has to be fully refinished. I'd rather pull my bumper off than drive around with my front end looking like that.
