Passenger side mirror tilt acting strangely

I tried searching but can't find anything in the 5G section about this issue. My wife has a 2015 SH-AWD Advance. Because it gets parallel-parked with reasonable frequency, we normally have the sideview mirror switch flipped to the right (passenger) side to engage the tilt feature that helps you see the curb. Over the past month or two, the mirror has sometimes acted strangely after we use this feature and then shift into "D"—the mirror starts trying to move higher and higher and will repeatedly try to move past the maximum extent of its range, usually accompanied by a loud thunking noise. The only way to get it to stop is to move the mirror back down using the controller and then immediately throw the switch to the middle or left position. That, in turn, can be a problematic solution depending on where the car is at the time—after backing out of a parking spot in a crowded lot, for example, it's not always a great idea to stop to fiddle with the mirror. But driving down the road hearing that thing thunking away is not a very viable option either.
Obviously, the easiest solution is "don't use that feature," but that's not really a great option, and my wife is not particularly good at parallel parking and thus depends on that feature (plus the backup camera) to see what she's doing. Does anyone know how involved the repair is? I suspect it will be more complex than I'm willing to attempt on my own, so I'm also wondering what a reasonable price estimate might be if we get someone to fix it. Thanks in advance.

There are many instances in the forum where people discuss erratic mirror behavior and it basically boils down to a lubrication issue. Having said that the fix needs a great deal of caution or you can break the glass portion of the mirror. Although the content isn’t specific to our vehicle, it is probably applicable. See Mirror repair
Note when you review the content at the link a few people had success by just exercising the mirror to the extreme limits of its travel in all directions (up, down, left, right).

Thanks. Sounds like it's probably worth at least trying that method of moving the mirror in all directions—not likely to hurt anything and the price is certainly right!
