Oil change needed soon again!

I picked up a brand new 2016 TLX V-6. in September 2016. Its first oil change was done in December 2016 already!
Thats with the factory engine oil. It is now March and my oil life is at 40%!
I had a 2015 TLX 4Cyl and the oil changes were every 6months even all my previous Acura's I've owned
my RL,TL,and TSX all oil changes were every 6months. My driving habits are freeway driving and city combined.
Is anyone experiencing the same thing? Where you need oil change every three months instead? On a new engine?
I have already contacted Acura through Facebook and Acura is monitoring my situation personally, but I want to know if anyone on here is facing a situation like this.

You should change your oil based on the maintenance reminder or once a year. There's no way you could have only 5,697 miles, changed the oil once, and be back at 40% oil life. Looks like the dealer either forgot to reset the computer or you have a faulty maintenance reminder. I did not have my first oil change on my 2.4 TLX until close to 9k miles btw.

You picked up the car new in September and did an oil change in December? Was that because you wanted to or did the MID show that it was time??

I tend to agree with honda_nut... did you see if the MID was reset in December?

Re:Oil change needed soon again!

Thanks to the both of you who responded to my post. So in September of last year 2016 this V6 TLX I picked up from the dealership brand new had about 15 delivery miles brand spankin new!!!!!! I was so excited to have my first V6 for a TLX! I have owned and driven Acura's since 2007!
So by December 2016 the maintenance light went on already! And I brought the car in for its already first oil change around 3,000 miles!
The dealership did reset the maintenance light and the oil life went back to 100%! My driving habits didn't change since 2007 I've always drove the same Freeway and city distances and all of my other Acura's including the previous 2015 Acura TLX 4 cylinder I had all of their oil changes were in 6 month intervals. My current mileage is about 5,920 miles now and oil life is currently at 40%! I'm going to have to bring the car in soon again!
Ive already connected with ACURA Directly and we have been communicating through facebook messenger. Basically Acura told me to keep them updated and follow up with my local dealership. I wanted to know on here if anyone else has this issue.
but thanks guys for those who responded so far to this. I appreciate it!

it doesnt even sound like an issue.
40% does not = soon...
>15% = soon.

also, 6000-7000 mile intervals are totally normal...
doesnt even sound like a problem

Mmmmmmm well I've recently owned a 2015 TLX 4cylinder and my oil change intervals have been every 6months so the speak.
my previous Acura's that of I've owned which were an 06RL,04TL,09,and 10 TSX all had 6month interval oil changes.
ive been there done that. My experience with this new 2016 TLX V6 so far feels different. So I know about my oil life percentage I don't need to be educated about that. Like I said I've OWNED ACURAS SINCE 2007 lol. Thanks for both of your "Expert Opinions"

I still feel like there is an issue with your car. Having your first maintenance reminder at 3,000 miles seems quite excessive to me. As I said earlier, I did not get mine until 9k miles on my 2.4 TLX. Same on my parents 3G MDX, usually about 8-9k miles apart. Even my 3G TL was fairly long at 6-7k miles. There's no way you're driving is that bad that you'd need and oil change that often. Is it burning oil? I'd take it to a different dealership if they say its normal.

Yes but the first oil change was done at 3k miles. 6-7k = normal, but half?

the problem with your observation is that you're going based off time.

6000-7000 and even 8000 mile oil change intervals are completely normal

if you are so concerned about changing it via time, instead of miles...disregard the computer and drive the car until YOU think you need a change, every six months

also, because this is a new car...Acura could have changed the algorithm for the oil change intervals, which would mean your previous experience wouldnt hold weight

who knows? the story sounds a little incomplete
there could have been other factors that we dont know about contributing to that low first change. like the dealer accidentally resetting something who knows.

but it doesnt matter now!
it sounds like the computer is doing its job now, which it's on track for a 6000-7000 mile interval
which sounds like the OP has a problem with....so, he might not want to use the computer...and just go based off time...like he's so adamant about doing

i remember when I was still doing 3k oil intervals.
how have times changed

well all I can do is wait until the maintenance light goes on. All these other dudes on here "think" I have a concern but it's something I thought I would share lol! I'm leasing this car btw. This is my 7th Acura already and I'm well aware of how the maintenance procedures are. But thanks again. Quick update today my mileage just hit 6,000 and the oil life dropped to 30%!

Ive been following the damn computers on all these ACURAs since 2007 lol all of them that I've owned
this is my "7th" Acura lol! The first oil change was done at 3,000 miles in December 2016 the car was picked up in September 2016 it had 15 delivery miles!
now it's 3/09/16 and it just hit 6,000 miles and the oil life dropped to 30% now. I do follow the maintenance lights and when they go on I bring the car in for the oil change. So I'll just monitor the situation and keep all you guys updated! Thank you so much for your consern and such expert advice! Peace!

i think all the dealer does is just reset the oil percentage which is that maintenance light! Lol
this is my 7th Acura lol I think I've already should've know so much about these cars by now since owning multiple models since 2007 lol 😭😭😭😭
btw this one is a lease so the speak! So since After December 2016 after the cars very first oil change already at 3,000 miles it just hit 6,000 total miles today 3/09/16! And now the oil life dropped to 30% 😱
Anyways your opinion is whatever you think so I'll just update when the time comes for the cars "second"
oil change. Thanks again for your response and concerns!!!!

Owning 7 Acuras doesn't necessarily make you an expert on them.. .

Feel free to follow the maintenance minder or not. Some people like myself go by mileage.

Forget factory oil

OEM oil is minimum spec. Why not save yourself a ton of hassle, improve your fuel economy, reduce deposits and engine wear, and help save the environment with less waste oil by just running Amsoil annual oil change? Their true group 4 pao and 5 ester based oil is guaranteed for 15,000 miles sever service or 700 hours.

PS: The only hassle of running a long life oil is sometimes I have to reset my OLI halfway through the run.

relax Francis! Change the oil when you get many miles on the car, or when MM tells you to. I just do mileage. If you think that it is not working correctly take it to the garage and they can look at it.

If you are bored go and find ways to improve your attitude! It's so annoying schooling people like you.
lol 😂 yes Mary it's the type of oil Acura is using that doesn't last long and promts the computer in the engine to determine the next oil change! You obviously don't have a 2016 TLXV6! I've had my fair share of problems with the 04 TL like the power steering pump that needed to be replaced and other minor problems and fixes! That's why we have community forums to post concerns. So Audit yourself Hunty

Ha! I'm relaxed lol 😂 I am following the "MM"
i just figured I asked on here also if anyone who also has a 2016 TLX V6 is experiencing this UnReal! What is with you guys? What is Community forums for? Support? Or to come on posts to wreck or prove to other people that you know more? I'm not looking for that! People don't read my explanations or something? I do once again follow the MM and I do bring it in. But since the factory and the dealership use OEM oil I think it's all a marketing thing where the type of oil they use makes the maintenance light go on sooner because it isn't made for longer miles. Acura just wants to make more money! Either I switch up to a better quality synthetic oil that will run longer miles!
so far only one helpful guy responsded to me about this! And others like you just troll on here like you know it all! So Audit yourself hunty! Lol just go police all the millions of other threads with your miserable self! 👋 bye hunty! Have a great day and weekend!!!!!

I have owned Acura since 1988. I have never had a problem with changing oil in any of the 9 Acuras that I have owned. I still own the 07 b/c it is an awesome car with 240,000 miles. I could buy any car that I want but just waiting for Acura to fix the TLX or move onto something else. I change my oil about every 6000 miles or when I feel like it. Takes minimal time and costs almost nothing. MM comes on but I don't wait for a notice from the computer to determine interval.
Why my car has anything to do with your oil change question is beyond me....but I am sure that you will let me know....

Thanks Harper for your observation. Acura that I've contacted through facebook and we've been communicating through messenger has been following up with me. After all the discussion someone on here mentioned it's the quality of the oil and I forgot all about that. I probably might have to consider using higher or better quality longer range mileage oil. Acura just wants to make more money off of their customers.

that's awesome that you've owned ACURAs since 88!
I was 9yrs old in 1988 lol! But if you just post on here a response like "is this post still going?" That does not help me. Lol btw my doctor had an 04 TL also and he just got rid of it last year because it kept breaking down and the dealership told him they needed to replace the whole computer system in the TL for $2,000! He said no and I told him to lease which I'm also doing which is leasing. He has the same model as I do a TLX V6. I should follow up with him about his oil life situation also! I brought up your car because
I owned that model before I see your white TL in your picture. That car I've owned has a power steering pump problem that I didn't pay for and the dealership fixed it for free! I've decided not to buy anymore and just lease! I still love Acura's but these new ones that came out have a multitude of problems. Go and check the TSB for both the TLX 4cyl and V6 models or just scroll through the whole forum like you do and you see a lot of people complaining or who have problems with the TLX

sorry about that Rocketsfan but the light did come on and I brought it in for its first oil change at around 3,000 miles. I'm just following the maintenance procedures and monitoring the oil life according to what the computer in the car is reading.

thanks JOHN! That makes sense! The damn dealership just wants to make more money 💰
Most of the customers don't even look into this and they just bring it in for an oil change when the light comes on! I'll let you know buddy! Thanks again!
but for now I'm going to let Acura figure this out!

@kurtatx I'll be making an appointment to have them check out that computer because there are other issues with the software for the transmission and the general software as well needs a possible update.
I have other issues with the fairly new 2016 TLX
that TSB's have already been created. I'll address them as well. No car is perfect but it's just a hassle to always bring in the car to the dealership. Reliability is a thing of the past. Job security for the mechanics at the dealership is a desperate call.
Sometimes I wonder if I should've just got a Honda Accord lol 😂

A V6 is going to require shorter oil change intervals than an 4 banger for starters.
