homelink problem

new 2005 TLX, i have Chamberlain garage door opener with rolling code that i have programmed with 3 different model cars but am having problems with TLX.
instructions don't make sense in manual=
1) set program button on garage door
2) press button on TLX for 2 sec then press again for 1 sec and door will be programmed.
this does not work.
i also pressed TLX button continually and still nothing
any ideas?
thanks

^^ YOu shouldn't as others have already used the TLX to program their Chamberlain garage.

Have you held the remote near the homelink button to program?

I have a Chamberlain opener. While in the car, push the button on the opener remote you want to use to open the door as you hold down the homelink button you want to use.. after the red light blinks fast on the homelink button to show it's picked up the code, go to your opener and push the "LEARN" button on that, then go back inside the car and push the homelink button you chose.. it should work the first time!

^^Yes, the key is to remember to push the learn button on the garage opener.

I just programmed mine last week. I have a Chamberlain belt drive unit that was installed in 2011.

After holding the remote near the homelink console in the TLX, and pressing both at the same time (refer to instructions), mine learned the code right then.

I never had to touch the "learn" button on the garage door opener.

I was expecting to have to use the learn button, I even had a ladder up there. I just never had to get to that point. Still works a week later.

Same here, never had a car link to this opener without pressing the learn button, but the TLX did. Chamberlain opener here, as well, but chain drive and probably 20 years old.

Maybe the new Chamberlain's don't need to learn? Mine would not work until I pushed the learn button and then the Homelink button

I didn't get it either. My 2014 Yukon need the learn button on the power head to program the homelink. The TLX just "absorbed" the code from the remote.

Didn't make sense, but I just followed the instructions in the Acura's manual in order and the first step worked. Kind of defeats the purpose of a "rolling code" but I'll take it.

Everyone is right.

The TLX uses the latest version of Homelink which was released 09 or 10 - can't remember for sure.

If you have a newer Chamberlain with the same Homelink version, you can simply use the Chamberlain remote and hold down a Homelink button in the car.

If it's an older Chamberlain, you either have to buy a translater from Chamberlain, or easier - do the remote with a Homelink button until the light flashes, and then press the lean button on the Chamberlain head, and then the same button you used with the remote in the TLX.
