Faulty Puddle Lights

Has anyone else with the Advance trim had issues with their puddle lights going out? My driver's side puddle light went out a few weeks ago... it was replaced, now my passenger's side is out. They are "supposedly" LED... what gives? The dealership says that they may have installed a batch of bad lights and mine got some of them... We'll see how the new pair holds up.

Well this is interesting... I just found another forum where other folks are having issues with theirs going out as well.

My driver's side puddle light needed to be replaced. Passenger side is ok as is the new driver's side.

My drivers side light went out a couple of weeks ago, after five months of use. The dealership examined and said that the mirror assembly needed to be replaced but had to order the part. It was fixed a week later. Seems this is not just a bulb replacement, and would be expensive if not under warranty.

Could not get any information from the service adviser.

I've had mine since the end of August and both of mine are still working. Of course with my luck, I probably just jinxed myself, and tomorrow both of the sideview mirrors will fall off.

Don't wish that on yourself. Your puddle lights will be fine! Did your driver's side ever flicker?

So far no issues here either. I did think one time that they were on without me having the key fob near the car and I'm not sure if they were on, and if so, how long they may have been on. They are still working fine other than that possibly phantom symptom, but my car is only about 1 1/2 months old.

ah man, I can't help but laugh. lol. You might as well just wait until your driver's side light goes out so you can get them both replaced at the same time. lol

I got my passenger's side replaced yesterday

Actually, the lady that gives directions and tells me what station I'm on and what mp3 is playing died, so she's getting replaced next week. I'll probably ask to get this repaired at the same time. That was due to a bad HD, apparently, btw. We shall see...

Lol. My parents owned one back in 1979. Worst piece of crap car ever. It's the car that made my dad switch to Japanese cars (a Toyota Camry).

I got my puddle light working again. The bulb apparently had burned out. Also got the annoying lady back as well with a HDD replacement. Now I just need a fix for the sometimes annoying transmission shifts and I should be happy again. Well, I'm actually not too unhappy as it is, but I'm greedy ....

Did you get any additional details about how the bulb was replaced? Mine needed the mirror to be replaced making it sound like the bulb is integrated into an entire assembly and could not be replaced by itself.

^^ WOW, if that is the case, that was pretty dumb from a design point of view. It would be like having to change the whole front bumper when your turn signal lights go (lol)

I didn't get the specifics, but the invoice stated specifically that the puddle light bulb was replaced. My service guy said the same thing - specifically that the bulb had burned out.

Just to chime in... I had my passenger side bulb replaced a few weeks back. Driver's side is still fine 6+ months later.

Also to chime in - I just got back from having my driver's side fixed, and the invoice says "replaced mirror housing"

Aren't they LEDs? I've never seen so many LEDs burn out so fast (feels you can throw a rock at an Advanced and it'll have a burnt out puddle light)...seems like they have a QC problem with their supplier!

I had my driver's side replaced on 4/3 - went out on 4/10. I haven't had a chance to go back to the dealer.

what the hell? this is getting ridiculous. lol I hate to make a big deal about it but I kinda want everything to work on a car that's less than a year old... haha (and we did pay a little extra to get all of the bells and whistles right?)

I wonder if its a design flaw and not with the bulb but maybe something is making the bulb short out or something?! Its not normal to expect such a high rate of failure on bulbs on new cars...

I always thought puddle lights were pretty useless (except for when I walk into my garage in the dark). lol. I wonder if it's an electrical issue or bad LED's?

The fix did not last 2 month as it is out again. I suspect a design flaw possibly caused by folding of the mirror. Poor LED quality is an alternative. Will press the service rep for more details when I take it in next week to remove snow tires.

They're doing a more thorough inspection of mine this time checking for a possible short etc.

When they permanently fix this, I hope they can also install brighter whiter LEDs.

Yup, my passenger side puddle light burned out or failed within the first month of ownership. Be sure you call the dealer in advance if you're going to get it fixed to verify they have the part. Mine didn't and so I ended up having to bring it back.

But it is so inconsistent, sometimes it is the passenger side and sometimes the driver side, and both don't seem to fail. My drivers side has failed twice but the other one is fine. Current fix seems to need replacement of the mirror housing. This is strange as the light is on the fixed part of the wing mirror and not the section which can fold where the mirror is located. Service adviser said the LED was burn out and not in stock so they were ordering the mirror housing.

I hope there is a permanent fix by the time my warranty runs out or there will be some confrontation issues when it has be replaced outside the warranty.

Both of mine have failed. First the driver's side failed, it was replaced. Then a few weeks later the passenger side failed, it was replaced. Now the new driver's side light has failed.. So (3 failures on both sides) now I'm just waiting for the new passenger side light to go out.
