Engine idle stop doesn't work 2018 tlx shawd tech aspec
Hi,
My 2018 tlx shawd tech a-spec has been driven for almost a year, recently got some scratch in the rear bumper, so i send it to a bodyshop and had them to fixed it. After a week, I got my car and realized that the engine auto idle stop doesn't work anymore. Always displaying auto idle stop not available. Then I tried turn off heating still same issue. I am sure I step down the brake paddle firmly. What could be the issue? Maybe battery low as the car was sitting in bodyshop for almost a week?
Many thanks

Why the shock? It's an unpopular feature included only to get that extra tenth of a MPG to meet CAFE fleet measurements.
That said, are there any error codes? Have you used a code reader? Testing the battery for charge is reasonable as a first sign of low battery in Acuras (or other modern cars for that matter) is wonky electronics.

Try turning off the heating system and any other accessories to see. When it's cold outside and a bunch of electrical accessories are on, the idle start/stop will not be available. Also try charging the battery overnight if you have access to a AGM-compatible charger to make sure it's not a low battery issue.

I will ask dealer to check the battery, hope it is just low battery issue not the the sensor or circut issue. But the thing is the car is back for 2 weeks and I drive it everyday about 60km on highway, so the battery should almost fully charged, right? Beside that, my car is same like new car.

I consider this an improvement. I would be interested to find out the cause of this to see if I can get my '18 to have the same thing. The only time I see it not available is if the car is still warming up or the air conditioning or heat is blowing at a high volume. I try to remember to shut it off when I first start the car but whatever issue you have if it only affects the idle stop then I want it as well. I would pay the dealer to permanently disable it if possible.

I dont have a solution for the other problems, but as far as the headlights go, you can easily aim them higher with the adjustment screws on the headlight. They are accessible by just popping open the hood.

@twordfreak Just so you know. I was almost settled on buying the TLX this week when I ran into your post. I then began checking out other sites and noted that they were having similar issues. I also found out that these issues have been going on for a few years now. I am a little upset because my wife has talked me out of getting a Tesla and I have almost talked myself out of buying a Lexus. So now it's back to drawing board.
I've also been reading a post about Acura bashing. Just to let you know where I'm coming from, I've had an Acura TL since 2006 and after 14 years it has finally begun to fail, making it necessary for me to find a new car. However, even I was stunned to find that after 14 years and dealing with a 13.7 gallon tank, the new TLX can only muster about 22-23 mpg in the city and just bearly breaks 30 mpg on the highway (Consumers). I have no hatred for Acura, just wondering why all of the bells and whistles are going to Honda and not Acura.
Thanks for your detailed message.

I think that I would consider myself to be an old timer here, even though I'm not that old. I remember being on this board and everyone was downright cheerful from the CL's to the TL's and even the early TSX's, there was such a positive vibe going on here. I would even claim that there was a feeling of superiority because Acura could deliver Power, Elegance and Speed for a fraction of the cost of BMW or Volvo and other car makers could only look and wonder "What the heck?" I know this because my first Acura TL in 2003 was a decision that was made based upon reading ConsumerReports. I was in for a Volvo at the time, however the magazine that I bought (Best $20 ever spent (ConsumerReports Auto) ) kept comparing every car that I looked at to the Acura TL. So I dropped the pen that I was going to sign the contract with and told the manager that I was going to look at one more car and I would come back to complete the paperwork. I never came back. I got inside a TL and it's been a love affair ever since. My second TL is by far the best car I've ever owned.
But now I am reading about inconsistencies and engine issues. I never saw any of that in the past. I don't think that its bashing if people are really coming out and saying things about a 40-50k car that they may be paying for or spent a large portion of their income on. I was very much going to No-Brainer the hatrick of TL's and complete a 20 year relationship in 2023. However I have had to take a pause. Will this next purchase -- regardless of brand -- last me for 14 years like this one? It's a really tough decision, but I don't think that censorship should be the thing to do here. This is informative and I think that Acura is listening, if the new RDX is anything to go by. I am excited for the new generation of TLX's. Although I don't like Turbos, I think that moving the needle like this is the way to go. The entertainment system on the RDX is actually quite good. It's a little 1/2 baked right now, but with the introduction of Over The Air updates, I think that they have nailed it because any weakness in the UI can be upgraded very quickly.
I know Acura will bounce back. I hope that I'm in one at the end of next month. But let's keep the information channel open and not censor the bad stuff.
Rick.
PS. I've been a member of Acurazine for over 14 years. My previous login expired, possibly from a lack of posting. Not much to post when you have a great car and few complaints .
