brake fluid
brake fluid
Hi guys,
Just curious on if it is alright to add any Dot 3 brake fluid to the current fluid I have? My brake pads are wearing down, but not to the point I need it to replace yet. The brake fluid tank is low, wonder if I can just get any and add to it until I get my brake pads replace? Dot 3 brake fluid is the same as any right?

Yes. Brake fluid is grouped according to specs it has to meet, regardless of brand. Kind of like oil with API rating. Just pick up some Autozone or Walmart DOT3.
You can also add DOT4 instead. It has a higher boiling point and is compatible with DOT3. Or if you want to go fancy, DOT 5.1, but that's probably not necessary. Just don't do DOT 5. That's not compatible with 3, 4 or 5.1.
