Android Auto issues/questions

1) I use spotify on android auto (via USB cable bluetooth) and when the music initially comes on at a normal level (about the same as if I switched from FM to Spotify) but for some reason after a couple seconds of playing the volume drops down a fair amount so I have to turn it louder just to get a normal volume (which also means it never gets to a real full volume if you turn it up), then when I switch from AA back to FM the volume is nearly double what AA was playing at) due to the first issue which is annoying if I forget to turn the volume lower before changing the audio source. Still can't figure out why the system reduces the volume from android auto to such a low level. Maybe someone else knows how to get around it? This happens 100% of the time.

2) Also sometimes need to unplug and plug back in the phone after restarting the car as AA will only play a few seconds of the song and then pause until I unplug/plug it back into the phone again. I have had this issue on two different makes of phones so I don't think its a phone setting. Anyone experience this using AA or know of a workaround? This happens randomly but regularly.

3) When connected via bluetooth I can adjust the output volume from the phone but then I can't use waze or google maps. Also anyone know how to select the waze menu in android auto (ie; the 3 bars in the top left of the map display)? I can never get the menu to highlight when I scroll with the selection knob.

I guess I am the only one with these issues. For issue 1, I was able to change some settings and that seems to be resolved. 2 and 3 though I don't know how to get around.

My phone gets very hot using android auto. I think I'll use bluetooth unless I need waze.

Haven't noticed that at all. Must be some combination of the phone model, charging and power usage of the app and gps.

I still haven't figured out why sometimes i have to disconnect the usb cord and plug it in again for spotify songs to play after turning the car off and on (randomly happens), or how to get to the waze menu using the navigation wheel or for that matter the spotify menu to change playlists (have to disconnect the phone and go into the app on the phone to do it). Doesn't seem like anyone else has these issues.

what phone are you using and what versions of android software and android auto software are you using? mine is constantly freezing, and apparently it's common due to the most recent versions of android auto being buggy with the Android operating system 8 and 9 (you'd figure google would be able to release completely compatible apps to their own operating systems)...I have a LG V30 phone running Android 8 and Android Auto version 3.8...i am going to go through the cumbersome process of uninstalling Android Auto, and install previous versions until i get a stable one that works with my phone....i downloaded the apk's for like 15 versions starting from version 2.0 through 3.7.

Android version 9 with google pixel 1, AA version 3.8. Had the same issue on previous samsung note phone but I don't know what version that was on. It's normally when I leave it connected but turn the car off and then come back and turn it on. Usually unplugging the usb cord and plugging it back in fixes it. Once in a while it happens when first plugging in the usb cord. This happens several time a week and sometimes multiple times a day. Once its working its fine until the car is shut off. I have never had the issue happen other than the first time I try to hit play. If it starts playing without pausing then it will not lockup for any reason unless the car is shut off. I dont think the cord staying connected or not matters but more if android auto was still an "open" app even though not actively being used. However just unplugging the usb cord and plugging it back in usually gets it working without shutting the app down. I don't think I ever get the freeze if its using the bluetooth connection but then Waze is lost and some other functionality. That's at least my opinion based on over a year of having it happen.

No issues with Android auto now after the latest update. My many gripes are also resolved with the use of Google voice.

pixel 2, pixel 3 here and #2 happens all the time, it's annoying. I think you can go to USB prompt on the phone notification and click some things to reset the connection as a workaround to unplugging and replugging

Thanks, will take a look on the phone next time. I had this happen on a samsung phone as well. It is annoying and for me its like a 50% chance if I turn the car off with the phone left plugged in when I start it back up again the problem occurs.
