Question 2019 TLX V6 FWD exhaust options - just J-pipe?

Hello all. I'm new to Acura and our 2019 v6 FWD TLX, and this community. My son actually drives the car, and it's his first. We want it to have a little more aggressive sound to the exhaust - nothing crazy. I have a coyote Mustang with LTH and full exhaust that's loud as could be (sounds like a NASCAR) but we're just looking for something subtle with little drone on this car. I'm wondering where to start? Just muffler deletes? Different mufflers? I was looking at the RV6 J-pipe which looks like it deletes a cat. If I do JUST the J-pipe with everything else bone stock - will I get a nice increased tone and some "rumble" to it? I see some similar questions in the forum here, but most people are changing many things at once and I can't find opinions on JUST the RV6 J-pipe alone. Also, does anyone have a link or the diagram for the exhaust on this car (i.e. to know what all the components are and where they are)? Trying to find info for this car.

Thanks in advance!

Any online oem Acura parts site will show diagram:

Thanks for the pointer. Hmm doesn't this car have primary cats before the J-pipe? I don't see them there. Maybe that's on another diagram?

Yes, pre-cat for each bank.

Thanks for that info!

Anyone have any feedback on the RV6 J-pipe only (leaving the rest of the exhaust factory)? Just wondering what it would do sound-wise and even if a small bump on power?

For what its worth, I had j pipe and CAI only on a 3G TL Type S and noticed no difference to sound or power.

In contrast my J36 8th gen accord with J37A2 crankshaft and rods, oversized pistons, PCDs, CAI, and stock catback, there is a noticeable increase in sound on cold start and accel mostly from the pcds and intake.

I also have a J37 MDX with just pcds and it grumbles a little at cold start, but goes away with warm engine.

My TLX is stock except for ktuner. No desire to mod it.

Yeah that's my fear is that I spend the cash and time to do it and it's no gain in sound or power. I'm sure the ktuner is the way to go for a little power boost. Did your CAI add a little sound to the cabin?

Yes on accel, but I have yet to see a reasonable priced true CAI for the TLX v6 ( filter mounted outside the engine bay).

Maybe I'll skip the exhaust and CAI and go straight for the tuner! How do you like the ktuner? Does the device come with a tune? I'm not familiar with how it works with this car, like, my mustang I had dyno tuned when I built my new coyote engine that is supercharged. But for a stock mustang there are plenty of "OTS" tunes you can get which all can be loaded with the same tuner. In other words the tuner is just buying the hardware, and then you pay for the tune separately and can get it from anyone you want. Is that the case here with ktuner?

For the TLX, there was a base map and a tune 1 for bolt-ons. I don't have bolt-ons, so I just tweaked a few settings: Disabled variable cyl management, increased throttle response and lowered vtec engagement rpm. Ktuner essentially reflashes the factory ecu, so its not as fully tuneable as a true standalone. But, you can adjust the timing and target AFR. Throttle response is really lacking from stock even in sport mode, so that was the biggest improvement.

That's great information, thank you. I would definitely like more throttle response and would like a little more power as well via AFR and timing etc I don't know this platform well though like my Mustang and Mazdas, so I was hoping for a canned tune so I don't have to dig into it much. Just load it and enjoy maybe 10% uptick in power, and better throttle response.

For the exhaust I'm starting to think maybe just try a muffler delete?
