Video module or AV in?
Video module or AV in?
I've been looking into confirming whether the TLX has a AV in. From what I can tell doesn't seem to be one. Can anyone confirm? Otherwise thinking of purchasing a video module like Naviks.
I can understand Acura's motivation to do away with the AV input on the TLX but keeping it on the MDX. I still would have thought that a more techie approach to the car would have revamped the brand better but that's just me and it doesn't speak about the masses not interested in adding a video input to the upper dash.
Contrary to the reviews out there I was sold on the Acura/Honda brand because it has a dual screen setup. I really like my Waze and I've been hellbent on NOT using a clip on the air vent to hold my smartphone. The two screen layout makes it easier for me to maintain the car controls as well as view Waze for navigation which it's specifically why I'm preferring the base model when buying my TLX.
Having said that, has anyone given a thought to a video integration module like Naviks? The link I added is for Honda but it's a fair guess that it should work the same.

Thanks for your patience.
Given what's available to play with out there I'm thinking as far as going wireless using a Chromecast like device to mirror the contents of my screen wirelessly. And if time permits I would try to make the entire process seamless so that Waze is already at the screen when I start the engine.
Social media driven navigation is not the only plus however. There's been a plethora of DIYers who managed to watch Netflix in their cars. While I don't intend to use it while I'm driving, my wife will certainly appreciate being entertained at eye level during road trips. All without buying a dashboard mount.

Seems to me that there is no easy way to integrate your smartphone screen to the navi screen in the TLX then? I enjoy using google maps on my iPhone but hate having to look down at my phone while driving to see my route status. I would much rather just look at the Navi screen to do so.
Naviks and Navitool have a video interface that works with the backup camera when you're on reverse. You could directly connect the phone to the interface using a AV to USB adapter or attach a Airplay/Chromecast like module so you could do it all via wireless. At the time of this post I really was hoping that I could skip the video interface installation but it's not going to be a big deal if I have to cough up the money for it.
Meanwhile I've been considering what alternatives I have in mirroring my display to the upper dash once the video interface is in place. I've considered re-purposing an old Android phone/tablet, building a Raspbmc box, using the more car dedicated Kivic One, or just modifying an Apple TV to take 12V power. I plan on posting my mods but I'm afraid it will be well into 2015.
