updating map
updating map
Hi all, I currently have 2016 tech, and planning to update the map in the car. 2 questions for this update. 1st is will I have to leave the engine running for at least 45 minutes like the instruction said or can i just leave it in ON mode and plug a trickle charger to the battery? 2nd, will the update only make changes to the map and nothing else? I don't like the system function in the 2018-2020 model as they are slightly different, especially in the music search area.
From my experience, yes, you can leave the car in the ON mode and use a trickle charger for the battery. I did that the last time I updated. Note: It does take a very long time from what I recall. However, you can start and stop and when you start again, it picks up where you left off. Full instructions will be included with the map update disc. As to your second question, only the map is updated, no functionality.
Thanks a35tl! The instruction came with it said that the first disc is the critical one that required the engine to be on and stay in one spot for 45mins otherwise it might brick the system lol. I'll update the system while doing an oil change this weekend =)
Did the update this past weekend, it wasn't going as smooth as I was hoping for lol. I left the car ON with my battery charger plugged in. Within 25 minutes, I saw my headlight turn on and off but only 1 side and a few clicking. Found out my battery is drained. I couldn't roll the car out of the garage to get jump since the ebrake wont disengage. Took awhile to get my portable power jumper to recharged and get the car back on. After that, I had to turn the car off and on twice to get the map installation restarted because everything on my screen was frozen. Left the car running for 1.5hrs, starting when I had to enter the password, to finished installing the 2 disks.
Thanks a35tl. It not as bad or a complain or anything, but more of a fyi post for anyone who planning to update in the future and should they choose not to keep the car running, then be warn about the battery drain.
Splash display choices
While doing the brown update recently, I recall seeing a choice of changing the intro splash display. I recall a Honda logo, an Acura logo, and others.
As this was not my concern at the time, I skipped past it. Now I would like to go back and see the choices. Does anybody know how I would do this without starting the whole painful update process?
