2013 Navigation Update
2013 Navigation Update
I just received in the mail the 2013 offer for the Navi Update. $149.00 with free shipping. Only a map update, no software changes.
Is this worth buying if I have a 2010 Tech that's never been updated?

Regular for Canadians is $179, though it's the exact same disc. That one didn't go on sale.
As for whether it's a good idea (at regular price)...depends on where you are, and how out of date the software is for your area. Up here, there's constant building/expansion/development, and I've gotten by no problem with my original (2009) maps. May update in a year or so.
I too just received a mailer from Acura offering the 2012 update for $149. If the only thing that changed is the maps and nothing else, I cannot see the point since I cannot imagine that there have been all that many street/location changes in the greater Los Angeles area from 2012 to 2013.
However, if there is some other update that this package includes to keep the NAV working correctly then that is another matter.

Granted I've been in a few new construction areas Acura's GPS could not find. For these addresses I just go to my phone and use the app Google maps.
I will go for it!
I have a 2010 TL-SHAWD, and noted that the last $99 update was not for the 2012, siad you have the latest update. Note the 2012 came out in March of 2011. So ONLY when they have an update for the 2012 TL, did I feel it was a significant upgrade, almost 3 years! So they call it 2013, $150.. They have several new roads and car pool lanes in San Diego. When I get into the 15 north car pool lane, it reads, not on a digitized road... I am sure this has been fixed.. However they have DELAYED releasing it till the end of October??

Interestingly, I checked out the (Canadian) nav page last night, and when I put in my vehicle particulars (2009 TL), it stated that I already had the most up-to-date information. I had to go back to the 2008 model year for there to be a disc available. This wasn't the case a few months ago.
I have a tl 2010 tech shawd... i've never upgraded/updated. Besides map updates, is there anything between 2010 factory and this update that does better job handling ipod or anything else that i might benefit from?
Has this been discussed yet?... Does anybody know if you buy the disc, can you give it to a buddy who can then update his? Or is it a one time one use thing? I'm sure they've built in some anti-theft program or whatever you'd call it, but I would gladly go in halves with somebody on a disc, I'd consider it worth the money?

I can't confirm this myself, though it makes sense, or else you'd be able to download it from a peer-to-peer and burn your own. I have to imagine that they've put some protection in place.
Canadian navi DVD is different from US
I was just looking at the 2013 update DVD for my '08 TL and there is a list of all the cities covered in Canada. The cities in blue are not available on the US system. These are mostly cities north of the 51st parallel (eg. most of Alberta).
But $179 is ridiculous. I think we call ourselves hosers because we routinely get hosed on most items that are available for 20% less in the US. I live 10 km from the border and use a US mailbox to order stuff online all the time. If the navi DVD was the same I would definitely order it from Acura USA.
Looking at the two sites now, it appears that the latest update does have greater coverage for a Canadian disc. Specifically, looking at Alberta, I note that Grande Prairie and Fort Mac are not listed. Curiously, however, Edmonton is, and thats 700 km (434 mi) from the US border.
I googled them, but don't have the links at the moment. I had to force quit my brownser, as both sites wreak havoc with my work machine...but then, it's not much of a computer. Otherwise, I'd look them up again. I did provide links to the sites in a previous post on the subject.
I was looking at Acura Canada's official site - http://www.acura.ca/owners/systeme-navigation
I've read on other threads that the disc is tied to the VIN, or somehow to the particular system. So it'd be one vehicle use only.

No, I received an e-mail with a link on it for $99.
Try this link. When you go to the shopping cart, it comes up for $99.

The site asks for a data base number. On the car's Nav screen the data base is listed as a 4 digit number but the site won't accept a 4 digit number. It will only accept a 3 digit number which is the software version number. Anyone know what the answer is?
Woth it for me..
Los Angeles. The new Garmin replaces an 8 year old first generation Nuvi. My 2010 TL was 3 years old and I waited to be sure the map update would be a newer version.. Evey fault I noticed with missing restaurants, roads and the like, probably about 2 dozen, were all corrected in the latest's release.
Garmin has Many competitors, and you have dozens of choices and a mass consumer market who have NO GPS in their cars, so Lifetime traffic and maps is just part of the sale. Not much choice in a Acura,,, and if you want to see how slick Navigation can be in a Acura, go check out the 2014 RLX!
Question, I'm looking at an 08 TL with Navi, and I dont know and assume the maps havent been updated. Where can I find out where to get a newer disc for the car if I do buy it, and what changes have occured or could be expected with an upgrade? I'd like to get it as close to current year as possible, but I could always resort to google maps if the nav lacks.

Go to the link above and key in your Acura model and year and it will show you the update. I believe the '14 update is already available for the 3G TL. The '14 update for the 4G TL is still not out as of today (10/21/13).
Just ordered the '14 update yesterday for $149. When ordering online it will ask for device id, software version, database version and VIN. I got all of the information and tried to order but when entering the database info I hit a snag. My navigation screen says, the database is 10.90. When I tried to enter that on the website, it would only allow one digit on the left of the decimal.
Ended up calling and ordering over the phone. I was giving the guy the info and when I got to the database info, I told him 10.90. He told me that was wrong. I checked it twice just to make sure I hadn't written it down incorrectly. I told him that and he kept telling me I was giving him the wrong information. I told him that I wasn't an idiot and that I could read and I was reading exactly what the navigation screen said.
He did some checking and came back in a few and got it to work. Don't know what he did but I got it ordered. Hopefully when I receive it and go to install it, I won't have any issues.
