Looking to add power folding mirrors to 2018 A-Spec

I plan on purchasing an A-Spec in September but really want the power folding mirrors from the Advanced package. I reviewed the electrical diagrams and composed a list of parts that I think will be needed. There is some speculation on how the signal goes from the drivers door manual fold switch to the passengers side. I am thinking the signal travels through the door / window signal wire to the passengers window switch and allows the manual switch to operate the passenger's mirror. The total for parts is around $625 but I only checked one online store.

Please let me know if I might be missing anything or any hurdles I might run into.

Any luck on modding your car? I am interested in also adding power folding mirrors to an A-Spec.

I am not planning to purchase the car until Sept. I probably won't order the parts until the beginning of Oct. I also plan on adding the auto dimming side mirrors and puddle lights while I have it apart.

I know its been a while have you tried swapping the power folding mirrors? What was the result? I am trying to do the same for my 2019 Acura TLX Aspec would greatly appreciate it. Thanks my friend in advance.

Me too

I'm interested also. I have reached out to one of the Acura parts guys but he is no help. He only confirmed the Advanced Mirror Part Number for me.

I'm steady building a list of things we will need and the diagrams lack a lot of small details and information.

I will start by ordering the ADV mirrors as I know those will be required. They're $460 each side, already painted.

I will then determine the right switch part number. As for the door harnesses and whatever else may be needed ... Well, we are on that road together.

The good news is, I have done this before to an older Honda. The bad news is, I have done this before to an older Honda. Much is different and I won't accept doing any hacky-stuff I may have accepted in my civic, to my TLX.

In the civic's case, I needed the mirrors, switch, add pins to the mirror harness and a separate relay. I asked Acura if they could confirm that the ADV has a different relay, they could not confirm.

I think absolute worst case, if we have the mirrors and switch, we can fashion up wires to activate the mirrors and run those wires to a relay in line with the switch. That's a little hacky but may suffice if we can't make this a plug-and-play affair.

After I order the mirrors (probably not right away), I may spend some time with their pins to enumerate which wires are used to power the mirrors. I read something in another thread that said the ADV mirrors use a built in 'module'. It was unclear if that 'module' may be a controller for the mirror motors and have a relay of some kind built in or whatever else.
Best case, the mirrors+switch+harnesses are plug-n-play.

Medium case, they're close to plug-n-play but need an additional relay somewhere; ideally under the hood in the existing fusebox. Anyone with an ADV care to provide a picture of your underhood fusebox?

Worst case, it's not plug-n-play, we have to add and run wires to a relay of some kind from the mirrors and with the switch.

For reference, I am working with a 2019 v6 AWD A-Spec - I will report back anything I find that's verified. I plan to reach out to a couple other Acura parts places to see if there's a guy who might be able to read their internal diagrams and notes and deduce some additional things. I am not real hopeful on that but it can't hurt.

I said I would report back and I am. I was able to successfully make Advance Power Folding Mirrors work in my 2019 A-Spec. It's not fully done yet but it's working. I will do a write up and help out anyone that needs info after the write up. I know this is an old thread but it's one of the first google results and it should be known that it's possible to do.

Advance mirrors, advance mirror switch, advance sub harnesses and advance window switches. I will list my part numbers and costs when I do the write up. I'm about $1500 into this but some of the stuff i bought isn't needed. Mainly the interior door harnesses with jamb connectors. They don't match. Likely because the mirrors have the camera wiring also.

It should be noted, I have just the driver side connected for right now and the infotainment screen detects that and gives me options in the menu. Here's a link to my diary thread that has a video and some pictures: https://acurazine.com/forums/5g-tlx-.../#post16888319

I'm hoping to clean up my wiring mess and get the passenger side done this weekend but no promises. As you can see, it took me over a year to get this far 😂

Great to hear that you're making progress! Are you using new parts throughout or, given parts shortages and/or discontinued items, have you been forced to source via the salvage yards for some items?

So far I've only used new and existing (cutting my existing mirror connector off) parts. I ordered all of this stuff over a year ago. It took a few months to buy everything and figure out what may be needed. Given the not-for-sure information around this swap, I was buying everything I thought I may need. I beat the parts shortage I think. Although I'm considering ordering a harness that says it's for the mirror to replace the one I cut.

An issue I ran into back then was almost no used parts places listed the Advance as a trim level. And tons of people on ebay listed items as Advance that were not Advance. Keyword spamming and it made it annoying to try to find things.

I think it would be possible to do this swap without the subharnesses and adding those pins manually instead but I didn't research exactly what's different between them, just the wires near the Advance switch. The mirrors, switch, and window switches are a must.

Each mirror cost me about $500 after tax and shipping. The subharnesses were around $40 each I think. The switch was around $40 also. The window switches were around $150+$110.

Using ebay now would be easier to find some of the right things. Knowing the mirror harness has 20 pins for Advance and A-Spec uses 16, you can match that visually. The switch you can see visually has the fold button. The window switches would need close ups of the part number stamps. And the subharnesses would need close up of the wires to make sure they're for Advance.

Are all parts (wire harnesses and switches) being delayed or having a shortage or is it mostly electronics (mirrors & switches) still?
