Infotainment Processor
Infotainment Processor
I often read of cars' infotainment systems being refreshed in new model years to include new processors for better user response. I am wondering whether someone has ever successfully upgraded an oem processor to speed things up. There's a lot of criticism about the tlx's setup so I am just wondering. Also, how about swapping out the stock navi hdd with a ssd?
Good luck swapping out to a faster processor - my gut tells me it can't be done.
I'm guessing the newly upgraded touch screen that made its way into the 16 Accord will be in the TLX MMC - until then you will have to be happy with what is in there now.
That said - what criticism are you talking about? I find the touchscreen to work just fine. It looks a little low tech and certainly isn't fast by any means but it's plenty functional.

I am fine with the responsiveness of the TLX screens. Within 30 seconds the screens are up and responsive and I can make Bluetooth calls. My A6 would take 2-3 minutes to be fully initialized.
The TLX is hands down one of the worst systems on the market for 2015. It blows my mind they would release this with the lag and terrible graphics. I did't buy the TLX for its navi or processor speed, but my god something needs to be done. My 2015 Audi, it runs a NVIDIA Tegra X1 chip and its crazy how much better it is.
I came form a 14 A6 to the TLX and I don't see the TLX system being laggy, it seems acceptable. The Audi had its own short comings, but overall their MMI is one of the best interfaces around. Granted I am not a fan of the redundant info on the 2 screens at times which Honda fixes in the 16 Accord and I suspect we will see in the MMC TLX.

oh yeah, because they use proprietary chips which are then soldered to the PC board.
even if you could find a better processor, you're going to have trouble with swapping it, due to size, location, how its implemented, etc....
THEN, you would have to code that chip.
hundreds of programmers worked to code the native chip which took OVER 500 million hours.
and then of course, bugs....bugs EVERY where.
if you're not familiar with how computers work in this day and age, I suggest you read up and learn.
