Google maps conflict with iphone/TLX
Google maps conflict with iphone/TLX
I have an iphone 6 and have used Google Maps as my primary navigator through many iphone versions. I got my TLX last week (tech package) and quickly discovered the superiority of google maps to the Acura's navigation system (which is as clunky as they come). However, I also discovered that using my phone as my navigator and having the directions read through bluetooth creates a conflict for the TLX's audio source system. Every time the phone "broadcasts" a direction, the TLX treats it as a phone call and goes into the phone answer mode, requiring you to either hang up manually after the direction is read or wait about 10 seconds for the system to automatically disengage. If you're listening to any other audio source, this is anything but a smooth operation. Yesterday, my entire audio system crashed with the frequent google map interruptions, and it froze at the phone screen. Disconnecting the phone, turning off the bluetooth, unplugging, etc did nothing to "unfreeze" it. Only pulling over and turning off the car, then restarting the engine managed to do it.
Anyone else encounter this problem?
A solution is to just disconnect the phone's bluetooth and play the phone through a lightning/USB connector as an Ipod source. But this defeats the ability to answer phone calls through the car. Guess you can't have everything.

Had a similar experience with same car and phone but with Apple Map application. Was using Siri to get turn by turn directions. Mine didn't crash or hang yet though. Seems Acura assumes you are in a phone call when getting unsolicited Bluetooth connections. The navigation app has too many steps and limitations to use directly. I haven't been successful getting iPhone 6 audio to the system through USB in iPod mode, only Bluetooth.
I did speak to someone at Acura ClientCare and he basically said best option if we insist on using Google Maps (which is far superior to Acura's navigation system) is to cancel phone's Bluetooth connection and use phone's turn-by-turn navigation through iPod (which I've had no trouble connecting with). Or you can use headphone jack on phone, get a mini-plug cable and stick in into AUX source.
