Red face why do youngster always try to race us?

I think I'm old. but not senile yet!

Almost always when I'm on red light, this kids with fartcans is racing me-- I don't get it!! I don't do road race!

can someone explain this to me, younger men? pls. could it be the LED headlights? the Acura badge?

PS. I see those Lexus GS that looks way faster than my ride, and no one bothers them..

Although Acura falls into the "luxury" brand they still sell a lot of vehicles that are affordable for the younger crowd and not to mention the older year models such as Integras are very popular among the younger crowd. You see a lot of modded Integras that belong to young people and they like to street race and act like asses and well when people see Acura they aren't necessarily thinking, oh hey, old dude with a TSX or TL or ILX, they are still reminiscing on that modded Teggy that they just saw/raced. I have absolutely nothing against the Integra crowd, I owned a modded 06 RSX and loved it. Just some people make an ass out of themselves and make the brand look bad sometimes.

thats my opinion on the matter. I'm 25 and never been provoked to race and I think it's because most people driving a 2012 TSX are old. I have yet to see a young person driving one here in San Diego, but I've also only had the car a month.

Oh and to answer your Lexus question. The Lexus brand for the most part has two scenes... The old fart scene, and the VIP scene. You just don't see much street racing with those cars. Not to say there isn't because there is, it's just not as common.

You ever notice that when a dog on the street sees another dog, they somehow automatically start barking and posturing to demonstrate their dominance? However, when a dog sees a higher animal, the behavior is completely different (meek).

Makes you think that humans have more in common with dogs than you think.

Isn't it a race only if you look them in the eye and then floor it or make a jack rabbit take off. Just sitting at a stop light and the other vehicle revving and jerking is their issue. If you just drive your normal way and adhere to reasonable speed limits how can it be considered a race?

Aggressive behavior is genetic, top dog in the wild, king of the beasts. head butting contests, and all that. Just watch a nature show about wild animals. Those genes are what differentiates leaders from followers, but some have not yet learned how to manage and channel it.

Agreed…we are a competitive species by nature, especially the males. I do believe that today's more powerful cars reinforce these tendencies. For all the years i drove a 4, I kept my aggressive driving instincts in check. I must admit that driving the V6 SH-AWD has unleashed a little of my inner wild animal

I'm old(er) and no and is going to beat me off the line!.. Well, okay, I am not really like that. it's been a while since anyone did that to me.

What I do to them is pretend like I will race them by starting off quick and as soon as I hit the speed limit, back off and let them win.

I think I'll get me a Hellcat Challenger to beat on the kids with... then again..

When I had my celestial blue mazdaspeed 3, it was the worst. Going to work, grocery, out with kids , I would get revved on , always raced, etc . It was ways gti vw owners and Subaru wrx Sti guys.

I guess my bright blue hatch with factory hood scoop to themeant race. Like I would be in carpool they would pull up next to me go forward hang back looking for a race. Just never paid any attention and they got bored

Since I bought my ugly duckling wagon, no one wants to race me maybe I need to upgrade to a tlx

This never stops for me. When I take my Prelude out just for a little spin I will at least get one rev on me no matter what. It's pointless and I just chuckle on the inside.

I just completely ignore them...I assume they'll eventually do something stupid in front of a LEO and get cited, and that's fine with me.

Testosterone

I've raced a few people off of the line in my TL before. It's really a rush.

I've only done it once or twice. Getting cited for excessive acceleration and dangerous driving isn't worth the rush, though. The younger you are, the more likely a judge is to take away your license. Screw all of that noise.

Be careful, some of those '95 civics with a fart can exhausts might actually be a sleeper. My friend has one

IMO people see an acura badge and feel a need to "challenge" it.

I drive my 03 tl s to school everyday 40 miles away and its usually on rural roads out in the middle of nowhere. People love to tailgate me when im in my acura, refuse to let me pass if im behind them (they jam on the accelerator...) and generally just drive really aggressively despite me driving reasonably.

When im in my dad's kia rio which i used to drive sometimes while the tl was being worked on people just kind of left me be. 2k miles of no agressive driving on the same road where people always harass me in my tl.

Funny enough its people who are definately a lot older than me usually. I'm 19 and just trying to get to college / home. These people i honestly have no idea wtf they're trying to do.

had a guy in a jeep cherokee doing 25 under the speed limit a week ago and he looked to be about 80 years old, when i tried to pass him he gunned it... very common thing to happen when im driving the tl.

i passed a few people in my dad's kia rio because they were way under the speed limit and i actually never had a problem trying to pass.

another great thing is that this area seems to be popular for nyc tourists for the summer and they're here already. I'm obviously real excited for the range rovers/ bmw suvs/honda odyssey's that are coming up more and more from nyc driving like idiots.

^^^^

Why do you think that is ?

Do they think Kia drivers are poor and ok to be passed by them but hey won't be passed by rich Acura drivers ?

I've met a lot of people and dogs over the years and that is a pretty mean thing to say about dogs.

Maybe they are just looking for a sitter to beat & don't want to take a chance on loosing.

That's why sometimes I hate driving this on a daily basis, but it saves me so much on gas compared to my 3rd Gen TL... I admit, im 40yrs & I used to run at the races in the early 90s...but now...I just cruise.

I can't say as though I've noticed anyone want a piece of me I don't really care because now that I'm a little older I have no impulse to race. Even when I had more "sporty, performance related" vehicles I never had anyone wanting to fire me up.

Maybe you guys are just putting out vibes that attract doofballs. But, I remember a time when I'd get a tad of road rage when tailgated, and perhaps even go to mild extremes to take care of business. I do miss my WS6 6 speed every now and then.

I'm 52 and have never had anyone "rev me" although I did have a girl from my high school, uh, well that's probably better told in a different forum.

My wife used to call me Mr. Magoo if that tells you anything about the way I drive so maybe they can sense that and they leave me alone.

I used to have to drive up to Detroit for business in the 90's and back then you had to be careful if you were driving a Japanese car - not sure if that's the case anymore or not. Instead of trying to build better cars to actually compete with Japan (which of course they finally did) they used to focus on trying to mess with you on the roads instead. Anyways - I think you may be on to something there. Growing up my dad had a nice corvette and people used to treat you with respect in that beast - at least that was my impression.

Throughput my 20's and early 30's, I had a '72 Challenger. I got the rev-ups at lights a lot.. I did embarrass a few Mustangs, Camaros, Firebirds, etc but most times, I'd just wave at them and tell them "Nice car" and that was enough to make them feel good about their cars.

I've had a few unintentional races where the car next to me peels off or I take off briskly and the other car floors it to pass me. I've never had someone try the classic rev, honk, flashers race.

I have been racing people in my 4 banger tlx. It's quick off the line but I constantly think about the power I'm missing by not having the 6. It leaves a lot of be desired when flirting with the red. Guess I'll continue my search for a s2000 weekend car to satisfy my speed needs.

Honestly, I drove a Civic and Accord before my 3.7L TL SH-AWD and I never raced or drove fast.

Since, I have my TL I drive fast and push the car sometimes. I don't race though...too old.
