TLX GT Pirelli world challenge delayed

2015 Acura TLX GT Pirelli World Challenge Debut Delayed
Posted by AcuraConnected on May 30th, 2014 No comments
2015 Acura TLX GT
Those looking to see the 2015 Acura TLX GT make its late season debut at the Pirelli World Challenge this weekend will be disappointed to hear they will have to wait a bit longer:
“Unfortunately, our program suffered a serious setback yesterday afternoon during final testing which immediately ended our chances of making our debut in Detroit as promised.

Everyone involved in this exciting project feels just terrible right now. We were so looking forward to competing for the first time against all of the incredible Pirelli World Challenge GT teams this weekend.

We also feel bad for letting down our fans. Please accept our apologies and understand we will get this TLX GT tuned up and we will be on track just as soon as we can!”
- RealTimeRacing

- See more at: http://acuraconnected.com/2014/05/30....2ofYL51h.dpuf

Hope this doesn't mean the production version is delayed again for those of you waiting for it.

I didn't want to get my hopes up so I just got a BMW 435I instead.

The wording make it sound like they had a serious mechanical issue or failure that came up.

I am surprised they have only one car and possibly only one engine/tranny. For an endeavour that big, supported up by a gazillion dollar corporation like Honda/Acura, you would think they had at least 2 cars available, one for testing and one for racing.

^^This kind of thing happens in racing all the time. How many times do Formula One teams bring only one of the new spec wings to a race weekend? Over on TOV, one member mentioned that they had a serious crash in final testing.

True, those SI's have been around for a while now.

Results from Detroit here: http://www.world-challenge.com/news/...unday-win.html

If it is "Honda Racing" that runs and 100% finances the team, then your assumption would be 100% correct.

It might end up differently after Honda are sure the project is viable, but they've only given PD one car and some money from HPD, and it's probably not as much money as you are imagining. :-)

When the car crashed, that was pretty much the end of the line. No replacement car, not even any spare parts of the kind that they needed. Much of that car was built by hand to their specific purpose.

And absolutely idiotic if true. This is RACING. Crashes and damage are inevitable and to only make and offer one chassis is only asking for failure, even if it is just starting up, especially for a factory backed team.

They will. It just wasn't a priority of the first magnitude, to spend money there.

In that particular part of the racing world, this has generally always been handled by amateurs with only peripheral support from Honda.

Honda has bought into the amateur NASA series Honda Challenge, too. They've even gone out of the way to show up with their cars at small enthusiast events like ITR Expo, and got them favorable rates at Mid Ohio.

Be patient. They're working on it. :-)

If Honda is getting back into F1 with its engines, they are spending quite a bit on R&D and racing in general. If they cant give a few cars something is wrong. Be patient? Its all we have been doing with the brand and they keep delaying product after product

Any word from the "insiders" when/where the next race will be?

Correct me if I am wrong, but I think the next event is at Elkhart Lake's Road America Thursday, June 19 - Saturday, June 21.

Any word if the TLX GT is in there?

Well, the 2 events that follow this one have Honda's name on them.

BTW, Cadillac has been tearing it up in the class.

^^ I guess GM has invested lots of money there. No wonder they get results. However some may argue they should have invested that money on ignition switches

In this video at 7:15 Peter Cunningham talks about the TLX GT:

No entry in the next event, either (The Honda Indy Toronto, July 18 - July 20). I don't know if this could change before the race or if it's set in stone :

http://www.world-challenge.com/image.../Torontov2.pdf

Interestingly enough, in the video above and on the World Challenge website, it seems there was going to be 2 GT's racing.

^ I noticed also he speaks about 2 cars. I wonder if what caused the issue in the first car was also in the second, probably was.

Speaking of Caddys, watch around 4:16 how it smokes the Ferarri 458 at the start

(these guys at BirdsEyeImaging1 youtube channel have done an awesome job with their drone cameras filming these events).

(also check out the pics of the 12 gear double clutch with A-PAWS rotisserie )

Looks much better now that the stupid beak is gone.

This car makes me grin. I really hope to see it in person at some point. I want to hear the noise it makes.

^^^^^

But without the signature Acura bar, it's just a big ugly void with no identity.

Note that Mazda and Cadillac are also using this grille frame shape.

idk....big ugly beak or void. And the giant ACURA on the side will probably help identify. Just mount an Acura "A" on the grill....that is the better Acura identify

Acura 2000 in Brampton Ontario facebook page https://www.facebook.com/Acura2000Brampton?fref=nf

... says come see the TLX GT. Does that mean they patched it up and ready to go at it again or is this the "fake" they have been hauling around at car shows? Anyone in Brampton?

The Honda Indy Toronto World Challenge event is July 18 - July 20, and I believe Brampton is near Toronto, but they don't show the TLX as being an entrant in that event.

http://www.world-challenge.com/image.../Torontov6.pdf

The TLX GT is being listed, however, as being an entrant for the Honda Indy @ Mid Ohio event August 1-3 :

I wonder if the NSX prototype catching on fire and the tlx gt engine problems are related. anyone know.

Acura having a really bad year. Let's wish Acura good luck for the rest of the year.

It's a big smile. Everyone's doing its own version of it. Then, people will complain Acura is a copycat. They can't win.

Glad btw that you say it's a "bar" instead of a beak. To me, it's more like a visor or a shield. Really beats me how people still see a beak there. (Years ago, without the tweaking, it did look like a beak.)

I thought the same thing when I saw that NSX toasted. Then I started getting even more paranoid : "why did they delay the release of the TLX?" lol. Wait. That ain't funny.

but you cant group the two together.

some one tried to do this with the RLX...
you cant compare a fire that we dont know the cause of to the delays of other vehicles.

like, do you guise even science?
there's just too many variables to point out a clear correlation between the two.

We're posing a question, not positing fact. And this is the first time I've heard that having "too many variables" necessarily equates to not being able to point out a correlation, but hey, it's science - waaaaay over the heads of mere mortals and guise.

Earlier today I took a look at google maps to see what it would take to drive up to the mid ohio course. Just in case I decided to make the drive and check out the tlx gt. I think im just gonna wait til next year to hopefully see it in action. Especially if the car does pretty well in its class.
