I started watching about halfway through the race earlier today and something must have happened to put the TLX down 2 laps. It dropped to 4 laps down and then managed to come up to 2 laps behind the leader in GT before the rain killed the race. I'm interested to know what kind of laps times it put down. Came in 23rd out of the 24 cars in GT. -_-

I was wrong! Which is good. Now that I see the race results it did come in 13th which is right in the middle of the pack. Not bad at all! On the bottom of the results it says car number 42 had a malfunctioning transponder which was the TLX. So during the race it was showing the TLX as being 3 laps down. I was thinking in my head there is no way it's running that slow. Now I know what the issue was.

Just watched race 2.

I think they should install some canards to shave a few milliseconds off the lap times.

That sounds like a double clutch? But something sounds odd when it shifts, sounds like the engine is hesitating. Also it doesn't rev up fast.

Just some thoughts...

(Thanks for the video links!!!)

ACCURATEin...I love that shot of the TLX GT, I wished the bodykit of teh TLX would make the car as aggressive looking.

More than a decade ago, it was only the RealTime-Racing turbo NSX that could successfully compete in that similar "GT" vehicle class, with the Porsche/Ferrari/Corvette.

Fast forward to now, the TLX has improved. But so have the Porsche/Ferrari/Corvette/Lamborghini/McLaren/R8/etc.

As of today, the TLX is still no NSX.

So it will be a very difficult road ahead for the AWD turbo-TLX to successfully challenge the Porsche/Ferrari/Corvette/Lamborghini/McLaren/R8 in the GT class.

Still want to know what transmission they are using. Doubt its the stock ZF.

The key for Acura/Honda/HFP is to beat the caddies on the track. They are kicking ass. But it appears the first objective, that was accomplished, is to have a 100% reliable car. Wins, maybe, will come later.

Found this while reading on the car.

The engine will feed an Xtrac gearbox, as well as Xtrac front and rear differentials – none of these components are shared with the street car. Per the rulebook, cars are only allowed to have six forward gears and active differentials are not allowed. This makes the 8-speed automatic transmission that will be in the street car, as well as the SH-AWD, illegal to run in the series, thus the reason for sourcing the Xtrac driveline.
And this doesnt surprise me one bit, as those are very stout from the factory to begin with and can handle far more than what they are pushing in this series.

The engine in the race car is a twin-turbocharged version of the 3.5-liter V6 that will power the road car. The block, crank and heads are shared with the road car. Various internal components are added to bring the performance of the engine up to the levels of power needed to compete in the stacked category.

What was the driver conduct penalty to Cunningham in Race 2 for? It was $1000 and loss of 20 points. Was it the contact he had in the first part of the race?

I saw him attempt to go inside one of the porsches and it spun out but I'm not sure if that was the conduct or not.

I literally jumped when I saw the contact car 42 had. You can see it @ 23:37 and PD should have gone a lil wider but he was on roll to take the Bentley and R8 in the pursuit to pass the SLS.

^thanks for the video.

I'm pretty obsessed with that car right now. I some some photos of it with the hood popped and the engine is relocated to under the dash. The intercooler and oil cooler are laying horizontal in the engine bay and there are ducts under the hood vents that go to them.

Yep, they pushed the engine as far back as they could to provide better front-rear weight distribution since the car is pretty much naked inside at the rear. This prevents under steering, well almost - lol.

(add me to the obsessed list )

Confirmed again with 550hp also 315 wide tires in all corners and next year to have 2 TLXs GT!
Super nice. That pretty much says that TypeS is coming soon!

I wonder... with the seat pulled that far back can he see in front of him?

PS. don't expect a future road going TLX type S to be able to do what the GT does.

Road & Track update

Well, at least it's not quite like NASCAR. Use link for videos.

The Acura TLX-GT takes the front-mid engine concept to the extreme
The motor is so far back, it’s barely visible beneath the hood.

By Marshall Pruett August 11, 2014 / Photos by Marshall Pruett

VIEW 6 PHOTOS
Honda Performance Development and RealTime Racing have answered one of motorsport’s wildest questions: What’s it like to race with a 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 dropped in your lap?

Marshall Pruett
RELATED: Photos: 2015 Acura TLX SH-AWD

Starting with a body-in-white, the TLX was transformed into the TLX-GT to compete in the Pirelli World Challenge series at RTR’s Wisconsin base. The constraints of using a production shell and all-wheel drive system posed a serious weight distribution problem for the team to solve, and thanks to the open-minded folks at the series, the team was allowed to uproot the TTV6 and move it to a different area code.

RELATED: 11 things you need to know about the 2015 Acura TLX

The motor was relocated so far back in the chassis, it’s barely visible when peering beneath the hood. It even has the AWD system for the front wheels located in front of the engine. Dressed in four 315mm-wide Pirelli slicks, the TLX-GT would have tortured its front tires with the weight of the engine, differential and axles bearing down on the Italian rubber. With that bulk shifted to a more central location—something akin to a front-mounted mid-engine installation—the TLX-GT is blessed with exceptional poise and balance as the motor rides shotgun with RTR owner/driver Peter Cunningham at the controls.

We still can’t get over the hidden nature of the engine. Want to change an injector? Remove the cam cover? Check wide-open throttle? No problem—grab a screw driver to remove the Lexan windshield and dash to access the sonorous V6. How’s that for a little bit of crazy?

What happened in mid Ohio, straight from the horse's mouth...

I think the seating position that far back isn't good for visibility.

The way that Cunningham has been posting in another venue, it sounds like he's getting more confident in the car, and it's getting quicker.

RealTime Racing should have waited for the twin-turbo NSX to race in the GT category, and instead use the TLX to race in the GTS category.

And just when you thought things can't get any more interesting, Aston Martin picked this dream to drive their V12 Vantage around the Sonoma track.
