TLX Gauges

No offense to anyone who has a TLX, but is it just me or do the gauges, especially the tach and speedo, seem somewhat "plain jane" compared to previous gen TL's?

Just curious on opinions of other forum members....

Yes I feel exactly the same. I think this is a new corporate thing. The MDX and RLX share similar design. I'd like it to be more sophisticated though.

I noticed this as well. My 2012 TSX gauges had a "3D" effect that I miss but I will say the TLX instrumentation is very clear and easy to read. I noticed that all of the new models in the Acura lineup now have the same streamlined gauge design.

I completely disagree. I think that the instrument gauges on these newer model look very elegant and "grown-up" compared to the 3rd and 4th gen TL and 2nd gen TSX. They look less like an arcade screen....My thoughts for what it's worth.

I think for a car that's priding itself as "Technologically advance" the gauges are too "simplistic" . I like more my 4G ones and also when they are not lit you cannot see too much what is behind the screen.
I don't know if it's on same way on 5G.

Acura should rename the car to Camry.

I like the look. It looks clean, modern and current. The 4G looks weird with those big discs in the middle of speed and tachometer. I actually like the look of my 3G TL more than the 4G.

I remember how fresh and advanced the LED gauges on the 3G looked back then. Turns on/off in stages. And disappears when the car is off. Who didn't think that was cool? Personally I still do. The reason why going plain Jane now looks good to some is just because it is different. To my eyes it doesn't look better and it looks like they stepped backwards there.

I totally get that Acura is moving forward, and elegance is it's main thing right now. Still gauges from many other luxury brands look better. There is a way to keep it elegant and grown up but still modern and forward.

If you want an impressive dash/head unit check out the tech in the new Grand Cherokee. Easily the best looking tech I've seen in recent memory.

The trend these days is flat graphics and simple design. Just look at the iPhone (easily the front-runner in all things design), which went from nice drop-shadowed, colorful icons to flat, 2-D pastel ones.

It's hard to argue that simple gauges are easier to read and probably a bit safer in that respect, and simple white numbers on a black background are considered elegant.

(Oh btw, I have a Samsung Galaxy S5. )

the gauges are simple, large and easy to read. Just like BMW and Audi. I'll pass on tach bar graphs and digital speedometers. Look like crap.

I still think the best gauges were on the 2006-8 TSX.

It seems that some wish Acura never changed a thing and just kept pumping out the 3G

Why does the 3 series interior remind me of the 70's? In a cool sort of a way of course...

Awesome visual comparison. Although I always liked my 3G TL panel and thought it was pretty cool, I love the clean lines of the new TLX panel. Looks more sporty; in a classy, luxurious way. Not gimmicky like some of the panels with graphics or moving displays, etc.

it's like Honda doesnt know about the 90's Honda war.
I remember growing up and felt excited about integras and civics and what they had to offer.
we're still the same kids, just grown up a little.

the TLX is a vehicle to get a person from point A to point B with electrical nannies.

and yes, I chose a 3G because it did excite me. it did have the power train to back it up! a little 3.2 liter in 6MT whooping V8s.

for close to $50k, there are much much more exciting cars than the TLX.

there's my argument.

Unfortunately, that's about the only good thing about the GC. Apparently, it's back to it's old ways of being one of the most unreliable vehicles being sold today.

Still love the LED backighting of the 3G TL, still looks good today and not dated.

I've not driven a TLX but looked at one in the showroom. Although the gauges are more simple from the 3G in terms of lighting, the TLX MID and dual display are so far ahead as technology. It has vastly eclipsed the once cool 3G center stackup and MID by alot.

How many of those choices have Honda reliability and options?

Hate on, hater. j/k

I guess they call that timeless styling. I think it looks out dated.

BMW interior design has always been on the simplistic side. There is nothing new about that.

Acura went from exciting and cool to bland. I'd be ok with the bland gauges on the MDX because it's a SUV and geared toward different group of buyers. I was just a little disappointed when I see the same design in the TLX.

Finally, there is nothing bland about that Audi interior. I am not a Audi fan but it does look good.

Agreed BookemDanole, with my 3G I felt like I was in a cockpit about to take off with those gauges. I do miss the blue on them.

I may have a biased opinion but after driving multiple Acura loaners over the past three years I still find the gauges in my car to the most "exciting" to look at. Not that gauges are something to be excited about, but if thats the topic...

Has anyone seen the gauges in the new Lexus IS F-Sport?

Yes as the pics show the gauges look similar and aren't as much as a contrasted difference as it is from the 3G. However IMO I still think they look better quality, particularly the Audi ones. Maybe it's just the fonts, but I dunno the TLX ones just don't do it for me.

I noticed that as well. Seems they had to cut corners somewhere. Amazed at how Acura has trouble innovating or leap frogging their competitors and just seems happy to keep up and provide a decent value. Note sure that business model will thrive as the Koreans step up their game.

Poor Acura, they didn't make a dash that folks think is "exciting" and "has cut corners". Now there is no way that they will never succeed.

Yet, when they stepped up and went different with the 4G, people hated because it didn't look like other cars ands was too bold. They lost big time on being different. So now, they tone it down and .. BOOM, they suck!

Why are expectations so high for an "entry" level luxury car? Is the TLX supposed cause a rise in the Levi's when seeing it drive by?

Would they have been better off raising the level of luxury l and then charging a price of $50K for the base model?

These are the points I'm left to ponder. .. yeah, I know, I need a life but I have to earn my pay here

Right now its the only game they have available to them. They need to sell a lot more passenger cars & don't have the brand weight to move up-scale.

Once they are selling well & generating development funds they can look to expand.

Hunyadi/Kia, the same company, have moved into the top 3rd or 4th largest car company in the world & have the resources to expand the brand.

simple, classy, easy to read. I have played with the F-sport's. Very cool, in fact the car's standout feature. Might be a short term wow who knows. The cheap looking messy centre console is not a short term thing though.
