Acura Celebrates 28 years as America's Top Luxury Automotive Brand, Alphabetically
http://www.prnewswire.com/news-relea...253342841.html
TORRANCE, Calif., April 1, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Acura today celebrated an important milestone, marking 28 consecutive years as the top luxury automobile brand in America based on alphabetical ranking[1]. Since its inception as the first luxury brand from a Japanese automaker, in March 1986, Acura has maintained a clear alphabetical leadership position over all other luxury brands, including Audi, BMW, Mercedes and Lexus.
"At Acura, there are many things we're proud of, and one of those things is our alphabetic dominance. I mean, these are the A-B-Cs of marketing, and no one does it better than Acura," said Mike Accavitti, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Acura. "Audi has been nipping at our heels since the beginning, and then there was that deal with Amati, which never really had a shot. We even toyed with adding another A on the front of the name, but we're confident that we can maintain our leadership, assuming no one comes along with Abalone or Aardvark or something like that."
Next month, Acura will debut its newest model, the Acura TLX sports sedan, at the 2014 New York International Auto Show (no kidding). The Acura press conference is scheduled for 1:50 p.m. (EST) on April 16, 2014 inside the Jacob Javits Convention Center. The conference can also be viewed live on www.youtube.com/acura. For members of the media, press materials and photography will be posted at www.acuranews.com immediately following the press conference.
"We probably should have called it the A-TLX, "added Accavitti. "But it's still a damn fine vehicle, even if it's not first in the yellow pages."
Expressing his enthusiasm for the future of the Acura brand, Accavitti, who leads the alphabetical rankings of luxury automobile marketing executives, concluded by saying, "Happy April Fool's Day everyone!"

Yes, it's a huge joke... what's worse is that it's posted on the official Acura news page... www.acuranews.com 4/1/14. It's very unprofessional and in my opinion making a mockery out of Acura (which Acura has already done that for themselves in general.)
Trending Topics
Doesn't sound funny. It actually sounds as if Acura is boasting themselves with nonsense; it has a similar grammatical tone like their other press releases and is too serious to be funny.
As I finish reading the article, it sounds more like a mockery and is not worthy of a April Fools joke. Not a good move IMHO.

It's not nonsense, it's self confidence of the new management team. Downplay the recent years and look forward to the future. I mean what else do you expect them to do?
Hey Acura bosses, here is an idea:
The rear view mirror is smaller than the front windshield because you are suppose to look at the road ahead and once in a while look behind. You don't drive looking into the rear view mirror all the time! Those who do crash and burn or are so full of shit.

Ha, man it's true this board is an unrelenting hate machine against Acura. It's not bad for corporate humor and it acknowledges what everyone with their lit torches on this board has been complaining about; Acura is #1 in few categories. Don't be mad if you believed it for a few minutes before you noticed the 4/1/14 publish date.
I guess I didn't realize this was actually put out by Acura. I thought it was put out by a hater of the brand as an insult. I don't have a problem with corporate humor. The problem is that this isn't really so much self-deprecating, it is more self-insulting. Basically saying the best thing they've ever had going for them is the 'A' in Acura. Maybe if their sedan situation wasn't so abysmal it might be a little funny. But I took this as a shot at Acura for ONLY have their name going for them. The TLX has yet to prove itself, too early to count this as a success. The TLX will launch with two new transmissions and if one or both have issues it could be Acura's Q50 experience. They won't be laughing at Acura Marketing if this happens. In this case then it might be true that the best thing they have going for them is the A in their name.
There are so many other April Fools jokes they could have made....
Acura selected to produce the next Presidential vehicle...
Carlos Goshan, caught dressed in disguise selling his Q50 and buying an RLX...
Acura launches AcuraJet, the first Japanese luxury corporate jet....
I guess I just don't understand marketing people. Why make yourself a target of self-inflicted insults?

Why not? If they say something like "the most powerful Acura" (which is true) people complain endlessly. If they make a joke at their own expense, people complain endlessly.
just take it for what it is - an April fool's press release

Huh? I don't think it's time for this new management team to act cocky. They haven't achieved jack yet. They have to prove they are going to turn around the state of the sedans, ILX and RLX are essential at flop status. I think anyone on this new "team" is on thin ice right now. If the TLX doesn't hit projections heads will roll.
No I'm not joking! Audi has the best AWD system next to Subaru that both have been track/race proven since the 80's . Both manufactures have several trims of their cars that will run circles around any Acura. Acura is so behind in the technology in their cars. Hyundai/Kia come standard with options Acura doesn't even offer and they came up over night. Why because they did their homework and listen to their customers. I went to a Hyundai dealer and drove almost all of the lineup and was just amazed! I just traded my 12 TL SHawd Advance for Genesis R spec sedan and I have no regrets. More options, more space (same size), 430hp direct inj., more looks from upscale car owners, 100 mile warr., and better fuel economy.Reliability is the only aspect the Acura has over most cars in some cases. I my love Acura's but I have to keep it real.

What? Maybe im biased because the 4th gen never lived up to my expectations in both technology and the fact that its ugly. I never liked how the 4th gen looked and although ive grown on it, i would still never buy one as the tech is outdated and there are just better cars out there for the money. I do miss my 3g though.

Ummmm...uhh...nevermind.
