TLX or '14 Audi A4

I can't make up my mind as I am going back and forth between wanting the TLX or a pre-owned Audi A4 (S-Line, quattro, 7,500 miles, with Nav package). The price difference is:

TLX (2.4 Tech)- $36,000
A4 (Audi certified pre-owned)-about $38,500

I currently own a '09 TSX Tech. I test driven both cars at least 3 times each and can't make up my mind. I'm very indecisive at this point. Fellow Acuraziners, I would very much appreciate your thoughts. Thank you!

I'm suspicious by nature but I would question why someone traded in their car with 7,500 miles on it.

I prefer the look of the TLX but for everyday driving the VW 4 banger turbocharged is preferable.

Considering the Audi potential reliability issues I would go for the TLX....if the choice is strictly between these two.

I saw the CarFax on the A4 and it was a dealer loaner vehicle.

On the plus side, it's probably maintained properly (if any were required). On the down side ... a loaner may not have been treated as well as a single owner car.

If you're not strongly drawn to the Audi after all the test drives, then it's a no-brainer -- TLX all the way. No reason to deal with the potential hassles of an Audi if you don't have a strong preference for it.

I think A4 is underpowered but when compared it to a 2.4 TLX, it should feel A LOT faster.

but you must choose between these 2 cars, i'd take TLX because 1 is new and the other is used and outdated with new model on the way.

Did you think anyone here was going say go for the A4, LOL!

My last car was an A4 and I miss it, I would have to spend some time with the TLX to give you a better opinion but the A4 is a great looking car IMO.

I don't think either car would disappoint you, the reliability issues with the Audi are overblown having owned one for 4 years but it will cost considerably more to maintain down the road.

Good Luck!

Audi Tech uses Google Maps for navigation. I think it has an edge on Acura's navigation.

I'm really loving the 8-speed transmission on my TLX.

QFT

whenever i got a loaner, i drove the shit out of it. also, if the dealer is reputable they would make sure all the oil changes get done in time but the last one i drove was at 0% oil life when i got the keys. it was about 1k miles overdue for an oil change. no idea when they were gonna have time to service it.

Honestly, I wasn't that impressed with the I4 in the TLX, felt like it needed to work too hard and then there are the wheels... The A4 is aging and probably doesn't represent as much value as TLX but given my impression of the I4 TLX I'd choose the A4 for ultimate satisfaction as it seems like you've found a fine specimen (provided everything is legit with it).

Yes...had MMI in my S4. It does use Google Maps. BUT, big qualifier, if you don't spring for the WAY OVERPRICED internet service from T-Mobile in the Audi, which updates the maps, the Acura's NAV will be far superior. Pendulum swings to the Audi MMI if you have the T Mobile Hot Spot (at somewhere around $400.year).

I test drove the A4 before going with the TLX. Not sure the measurements of the A4. But it seemed much smaller inside that the TLX. But thats just me.

Significantly better nav (if you don't mind paying for data), decent aftermarket support (you can probably make 215-220 to the wheels with a tune, 250+ with the K04 swap), and quattro?

I'd pick the audi and just trade it in/sell it when the warranty ends if you're that terrified of maintaining it.

Hell no then run away, people treat demos like rental cars.
Also the A4 is smaller interior, far leas reliable and does worse in crash tests if any of that matters to you.
