Spoiler Effectiveness.

How well does the spoiler clear up the vortices at the rear of theTLX?
The dirt accumulation without a spoiler is rediculous plus rain on the backup camera.

The spoiler is undoubtedly very effective. . . at speeds in excess of maybe 120 mph. As is the case with most cars (especially the higher performance exclusive exotic types) all of the various aerodynamic gizmos are likely more for boy-racer show than actual effectiveness based on the way 99% of people end up driving their cars. Kind of like adding a big letter R at the quarter panel that was so in vogue a few years ago.

Like having fog lights with Jewel-eye LEDs. Just looks nice, if you are in to that.

I don't care about the stability factor at speed. I'm just interested in keeping the rear end cleaner longer.

I have a spoiler similar to the TLX one on a '13 Lexus ES, nothing keeps the rear clean. Just wipe the lens when you need to, use the mirrors when you can't. It's not like we've never had to back up without a camera, and any vertical surface on the back collects the dirt. It does seem worse on later models.

A California duster does a decent job keeping the fine dust under control- I just wipe my back bumper every few days and it's good. I garage my car so it's easy to do between car washes. A spoiler won't make a huge difference in the dusting effect.

It's all about the aesthetics.

Steve don't you know that cars that have eight lights staring you in the face, rule the road? Six LED headlights and two LED fog lights. Twelve if you want to include the high beam stare down!

I was at the dealer getting an oil change this past weekend and they have a TLX in the showroom with the spoiler. It looks nice but upon further inspection, the double sided tape was not sticking onto the trunk. There was a nice quarter inch gap between the spoiler and trunk. I don't think it will be that effective at all besides asthetics.

cars are designed for aerodynamics, thus the rear WILL ALWAYS GET DIRTY.
no matter what.
its how the air follows and kicks back onto the rear.

an aesthetic spoiler wont help with rear getting dirty at all.

I did not know that.

Before I go through Tennessee next, I will need to get an upgrade.

The car's butt will still get dirty (a lot) even with the spoiler. But, on the other hand, your sexiness quotient goes up by at least 43.6%.

I agree that cars are becoming increasingly aerodynamic, but the back-end gets dirty because the air passing around the vehicle is not a smooth flow as it passes over the back (it's NOT aerodynamic at that point). As air is flowing over the sharp cut-off of the trunk-lid, eddies are formed, which means the rear WILL ALWAYS GET DIRTY.

^ i didnt know how to explain it other than how I see it happening on my own car.

Thank you for explaining how eddies are formed!

All I know is the spoiler looks really good. I just wish they had designed a better install procedure to get it completely flush. Mine is close but there is still a minute gap.

There was a thread about this a while ago.. Some TLX owners posted pics of the spoilers and the gap was terrible, and had complained to their dealers about it..
