While I like exhaust tips, I too am over them. The gf's RDX doe not have them and honestly while I like the looks of tips, I agree, cleaning a car without them is much easier as dirty exhaust tips sucks to get clean and keep clean. I am very eager to drive a TLX AWD Advance. I suspect I will be disappointed since they have not stiffened the suspension on the AWD this time, one can only hope a Type-S comes soon.

EVs don't don't need a tailpipe, but the TLX is not an EV. On hybrids, I can forgive a hidden tailpipe. But hiding a tailpipe on a combustion engine seems dishonest in the same way BMW pipes in their engine noises over the speaker system.
Anyway, I think the real reason Acura hides the tailpipe is to discourage people from doing the banana in the tailpipe trick.

A couple years ago I was walking in a parking lot back to my car with a female friend. She is a total non-auto-enthusiast and actually pokes fun at my car obsession and doesn't understand it. I tell her it's pretty much like her shoe obsession.
Anyways I saw a Chevy Volt with no exhaust tips in the parking lot and said "Look, isn't that weird? That one is electric but they are designing a lot of cars that even run on gas without exhaust tips showing, they hide them." She said "Haha, no, what I find weird is that you even notice stuff like that, WTF? But actually, wow, I like it. It looks a lot more smoother and clean! The exhaust sticking out looks weird. I hate that" I was like wha?? I'd say she is very much like 80% of the population who just fuels it, changes the oil and takes it to work/shopping. That's all a car is to her.
Weeks later I am wiping my car down and she says "I'm not into cars but damn your car looks good! Oh THIS is what you were talking about with the exhausts. And you actually have 4 of them, wow that looks good!" HUH?? And this girl has seen my car for the last 4yrs with that exhaust and never noticed my ATLPs before. lol.
There you go. If people don't have formed opinions about it, you can change it. How you market something depends on the type of customer. Thank God for the internet, finally we are beginning to have "informed customers", which are a headache for salespeople. But there are still plenty of oblivious ignorant ones. You can tell a normal consumer "this is green" and if that rings a bell of positive association for them they'll believe it. Enthusiasts who want the tips will see through the BS on their assertion. But Acura knows that the typical consumer makes up the majority and that's all that matters to them.
This just isn't a brand catering to enthusiasts anymore.

Not a deal breaker for me, but I like the look of the dual exhaust tips like the 4G

Can you imagine how that could have changed the fate of the 4G TL?

I sometimes think these focus groups are hypnotized by master salespeople to say "yes"
to anything they show and tell them. Can't explain it any other way.
Ps. I'd sleep in the trunk of my 4G for the chance... umm, hold on, rear seats won't fold, darn!

LOL, but the questioning would have been like:
Acura: "Is the new look distinctive, a one of a kind look?"
Bob: "Yes, but it's ugly"
Acura: "I'm sorry sir, reply with a yes or no answer, is it distinctive?"
Bob: [sigh] "yes"
... Flash forward to press release... Acura says customers "responded to the new look as distinctive and forward looking..."

^^It's possible you missed the tongue in cheek nature of the post.

Once again I think the 3G TL does look better, but thats my opinion. When they decide to finally get rid of that metal plate in the front I will consider maybe upgrading my car depending on what they are offering. Though The 5G does look better than the 4G, that no tailpipe showing and the metal plate in the front are turn offs.

Someone mentioned this somewhere, but I wonder whether the move to DI engines is causing Acura to skip the exposed exhausts. I saw a newer Ford Fusion (in white) earlier this week. The car looked like it was taken care of decently. The metal finished exhausts were black with soot. Not so cool.
I've noticed the metal exhaust finisher on our '13 Accord does a little of this too. If you keep after it, it comes off with a simple wash, but if you're the normal, wash-the-car-twice-a-year owner, I'd think it would look pretty nasty.

lame. First they bitch-ized the new MDX with no exhaust pipes, and now the TLX. This is one of the big reasons I bought a 2g vs a 3g MDX. Oh that and the 2g was 10k cheaper.

I'm sure that somewhere there is someone still lamenting the loss of tail fins...

I suspect 95% of the people interested in a TLX won't care one way or the other about exposed tailpipes.

While I do like the chrome tailpipe extensions on my 2011 TSX and will miss that appearance on the TLX, I am more disappointed with the lack of fog lights on the TLX unless I go with the ADVANCE package. I just hope it has a spare tire. (NOTE: This is what I was told, I have not seen any official confirmation of this)

Like some others on here said. I feel like they'll release a performance enhanced verision later on. especially since this car is supposed to replace the TL and TSX models right?

Hoard away as many as you can. I think they are going the way of the dodo. Again cost containment as well as weight savings I assume.
#73
One thing I recall reading was that there was to be 2 hidden storage compartments on the Advanced trim. I wonder if that's still true. If so, and if it's in the trunk, I wonder if they may take away space from a spare?
#74
The difference is Base/Tech get 13.2 cu ft of trunk space. Advance gets 14.3 cu ft.

Brother, you are preaching to the converted.
They NEED at least a couple of enthusiasts in every large focus group at Acura. I'd volunteer if they'd have me and covered at least a night in a hotel or something.
Can you imagine how that could have changed the fate of the 4G TL?

"Hidden Storage" must be the son of cup holders. Just discovered one in my new car.

The fixation here regarding pipes sticking out in the rear is kinda funny. Is it for the fast car image?
Anyway, like someone else said, 99% of "normal" people don't care.
