New TLX Guy, question on MPG
New member here, had to finally retire my '05 TL with 250k trouble-free miles last month, hence my handle. I just got an '18 TLX V6 FWD, and 3/4 through my first tank fill-up, I am averaging 32.2 MPG. That includes mostly highway driving, but also some local driving, city, and quick errands. Not complaining obviously, but is anyone else getting such ridiculous gas mileage?

I just got back this weekend from a 2000 mile trip. It was almost all interstate highway. There were 2 drivers in the car, myself and my wife. When she drove, the car got almost 40mpg at around 70mph. I drove a little faster, at around 80mph and got about 37-38mpg. I have never gotten this kind of fuel mileage in the past with this car (or any other car for that matter) and was simply amazed. There are other threads which cover fuel mileage and some of the other members here have gotten the same type of mileage. Is it possible that gasoline is better now than in the past? I didn't rely on the computer in the car, but verified it with the old school method of mileage divided by gallons at the filling stations.

I find the V6 AWD is capable of around 32-34MPG on HWY, around town I get around 21-22, but my commute is back roads a with max 45MPH and traffic lights. Acura really has tuned this car well for performance and fuel economy.

Interesting figures; in NYC stop & go traffic, I'm getting barely 15MPG
On the open road, where the 9 speed shines, I get 32+, at around 75MPH, with the A/C cranking
In my last TLX/2015 SH-AWD, I used to get around 37MPG, on the road, & 20-22MPG in the city
Truthfully, I'm NOT complaining; I LOVE my A-SPEC, & happy to drive it

I have an 18 AWD and the mpg has improved over time. Now at 10k miles I got 32 mpg on a recent 2 hour trip mostly highway but normally just driving around it's now at 24-25 mpg with almost no highway miles but suburban driving with a light or stop sign every couple of miles. My previous 2017 V6 fwd was averaging 28.6 just driving around so some hit on the AWD V6 A-Spec but handling wise the few miles less per gallon are a very good tradeoff. I pretty much drive only in sport mode and definitely don't drive for max mpg. My older 07 type S was a pretty solid 21/22 mpg but felt a lot faster than either TLX, handling wise not close to the A-Spec V6 with AWD and had a fairly stiff ride. I did notice on the 07 I didn't get the best MPG till around 10k in miles as well. The A-spec awd really does a great job with a smooth ride, little lean and powers through the turns. If it had the trans of the 3rd gen type S it would be superb. That should be corrected when the type S comes out in the next year or two. I am guessing mid 2020 for that based on the GM's comments when I spoke with him a couple months back.

I have a V6 FWD too. My round trip to work is about 60 miles. A combination of city and highway driving. The highway speed are between 65 to 75 MPH for about 3/4's of the trip. My average is in the same area as yours.

I have a 2015 v6 and I get 27mpg combined. I do mixed highway and city.

Welcome to AZ, 250kmiler! I'd say you are doing well with the V6/FWD. For a comparison, here's the Fuelly for my '18 V6/SH-AWD:
My car is now used primarily for city commuting as my new workplace is only 3 miles from my house. On the freeway, I still get 30-32 mpg despite what you see in the Fuelly.

Just got back from the beach house was there with the faimly for the last two weeks. 32 mpg @ 72 mph average speed for 200 miles. 40 miles was in local traffic, get 22 in local traffic @ 35 average. The rest was 85 mph on the robot while on the interstate. Next long high speed interstate run will just record that section.
Neat thing I never did before. They opened a Zip line place about 10 minutes from the house. Went with one son in law, one granddaughter & one daughter. Other 8 people stayed on the beach.
About 2.5 hours over 10 towers ranging from 100 ft to 85 ft tall. There were a couple of wire cable foot bridges at the 85 ft level connecting some 6X6 open grid platforms at the top of a pole. Longest run was about a 1/3rd mile fastest 60 MPH.
We are about 30 minutes south of Wilmington NC so anyone visiting that area would recommend the Shallotte River Swamp Park's zip runs.

Thanks for responses
Thanks your all for your responses, very helpful. Yes, I have also achieved 40.8MPG on my 29 mile commute once with no traffic, crazy. I feel like the car glides with less resistance at speed than my previous Acura, presumably due to the wider gearing. I do feel that I am using the brakes more often and harder to slow down, which obviously results from the faster gliding. I will wait to see if the brake pad wear is faster on this car than my last.
But I've found something puzzling about the Acura mileage data after a few months with the car.
So far I've filled up my tank 6 times, using auto reset on Trip B mileage, and have meticulously calculated that the MPG per tankful shown on the dashboard overstated my *actual* mileage (calculated as Trip B miles traveled divided by Gallons filled) by 1.2 to 2.9MPG.
I could see how on any given fillup, you might not be filing the tank up the same amount each time, but over 6 times it should balance out.
So basically I'm saying, in between fill ups, my actual MPG I am achieving on the road is less than the cumulative MPG shown on the screen for Trip B, which is a little disappointing. Maybe the algorithm for calculating cumulative miles needs some tweaking. I also noticed that when the tank is full, it shows a range of over 520 miles, but even while averaging well over 30MPG, the range declines to around 450 at a half tank, then by the time the gas tank light goes on, I have less than 400 miles traveled.
Having said all this, I couldn't be happier with the new TLX, so smooth, great ride, great mileage. The only things I would change is for the LKA to operate at below 45mph, and for the ACC to not brake so abruptly to maintain the designated safe distance from the car in front.

Personally outside of look-ups for threads like these found it's just as well to ignore the MPG & enjoy the car.

At around 65mph, my 2015 V6 FWD TLX clocks in 45mpg so it's not bad at all. I've gone from Tallahassee to Miami (a 500 mile trip) in a full tank and still have 50 miles left on my range. Mind you, I averaged about 75 the whole trip so if I would've gone 65 the whole trip, that would've been a different story (17 gallons x 45mpg = 765 total range!)

Ok that clears things up, thanks. I moved from a 2005 TL into this '18 TLX, so I missed a lot of the technology changes.
Has anyone ever filled up 17 gallons of gas into their tank? In my' 05 TL, I have gone at least 10 miles after the range reads 0 miles, and still never filled up more than 15 gallons, altho I think the '05 had a 16 gallon tank. Always curious how much buffer they give you once the remaining range reaches zero.

The Oracle of Acurazine!
I've got 17k miles on 18 aspec AWD and I've been getting 17 to 17.5 mpg, but after the recall update last week it's up to 18.2, always drive in normal, do not push it hard... should I look to repalce O2 sensor?

Do most TLX owners go to Acura dealers for service?
Curtis to know, do most of you TLX owners still go to your Acura dealers for service? Or independent service shops, or just DIY? Thanks.

Hopefully with that mileage, you are driving only in city traffic, because you should be getting way more than that with any level of mixed driving.

Then pretty much what you see is what you get. Take it out for a 100+ mile highway trip at a steady state of say 75 mph and that will be a better indication of what kind of economy your car is capable of. If your mileage is still low, then you may have a problem
The above said, with the extremely limited number of miles you have on your car, it is WAAAAAY too early to consider mucking about with O2 sensors and such.

That's a great suggestion, wish I thought of it. I would even suggest a shorter 30 mile highway drive, at 60-65MPH, (and not all uphill!) and you should get at least 35MPG, maybe upwards of 40MPG.

Always worth checking the actual vs calculated mpg. Like Bear said, I have seen up to about a 2mpg difference (computer higher than actual). A small delta is typical with every car I’ve owned. I also recently started driving all the way to 0miles of range left. I find that gets me about 400miles to a tank and a fill up is about 15.5gal. I’ve driven beyond 0miles once, about 25 miles because I knew there was a gas station at the exit I was taking, and it’s mentally nerve wracking. You can’t think about anything except running out of gas, helplessly coasting to a stop or stalling on the off ramp intersection. That was over 16gal to fill up. So there is a buffer in the ECU calc that you can use at your discretion. I was curious about this like 250kmiler until I tried it. YMMV.
