maintenance replacement schedule '15 TLX

Hey All

I went for a regular maintenance (oil change) for my 2015 Tlx with 82k miles.

In short while looking over the car they recommended that the brake fluid be replaced and as well as the brakes replaced and rotors turned.
I did all the above. The brakes were low but still had life. The pads were original as they were never changed. The rotors did need smoothing down.

But did I get ripped off with the brake fluid change? They said it started to gel and cannot add more brake fluid. I quickly look up the Tlx maintenance schedule and it say to replace brake fluid every 3 years. I never done it before on this car. All the other cars that I owned (Accord & CrV) I was never recommended to replace brake fluid.

They also noted that the Accessory belt(s) and Timing belt is due for tune up. This I did NOT do. Is this really needed? The car drives fine. We're not racing the car.

Please advise.
2015 TLX Fwd 4 cyc Base model.

Replacing the brake fluid every five years is a good idea and yes that was a legit recommendation mechanics. Especially if yours hasn't been replaced after seven years.

Having the timing belt service done is for "preventive maintenance" and is also a strong recommendation. If the timing belt snaps or jumps it can create major damage to your engine.

OP: you have a 4-cylinder TLX? If so, I believe that it does not have a timing belt (it's a chain).
Re: the drive belts, it may not be a bad idea to replace them if they are cracked, which can happen after 7 years.

it is 4 cylinder base model fwd.
do chains need replacing like the belts.
would the chain even need tuning?

I had a 2001 Honda Accord which had a belt and after 100k miles they strongly recommended replacing the timing belt and water pump at same time. Nothing else before that and after that.

A timing chain should last the lifetime of the engine. Biggest maintenance for timing chains is proper/regular engine oil changes. Of our cars, the four cylinder Miata has a timing chain, but both V6 Acuras (TLX and RDX) have belts. Maintenance reminder had us change the belt on the RDX at 108k miles.

I always do the regular oil changes at the dealership.
So is it safe for me to assume that I don't need the chain tuning on the TLX ? How do you tune a chain?

How about for V6? Timing belt or chain? And does it need to be replaced as part of maintenance?

The V6 has a timing belt. It should be replaced every 10 years or 100,000 miles.

We have a 2013 RDX with the V6 and a 2019 TLX with the V6, and they both have timing belts which require replacement as part of scheduled maintenance. There is a specific maintenance reminder code that appears when it’s time for replacement. That maintenance reminder code popped last year at about the 108,000 mile mark on our RDX, and we replaced it soon after.
