Long-term reliability of I4 TLX?

I watched a recent episode of Scotty Kilmer where he really sang songs for ILX. (Almost look like Honda has replaced Toyota as his official sponsor!) But ILX is too small for me. So I am looking at TLX now. I also watched some YouTube videos on 4WS Prelude and got jealous. So I am wondering is there a 4 cylinder TLX just like the old Prelude? Anyone had both and can compare? Also what is the long run reliability of the 4cyl TLX? Thanks!

We're only in the fourth model year of the TLX so long term data will be pretty speculative. That said, the K24 engine in the 4-cylinder TLXs has a pretty good reputation; here again, the version of the K24 in the TLX has only been around for about six years, so that too may have speculative long term data.

Regardless, I think you are overthinking things; drive an older used one, if it suits you and meets your expectations, then look for one in the color and trim you like best.

TLX i4 has the same engine and DCT that Kilmer was praising in the ILX video. as far as the K24, I owned a 2003 Element that had a K24 and it's still going strong. My brother owns it now and has it close to 200K miles.

I wanted a ILX initially but after test driving both I went with the TLX. The TLX felt just as quick and as light as the ILX but with more room, it was a no brainer.

Have only had my TLX for about 7 months, but it is the closest feeling to my '94 Prelude than any other car I've driven (a good thing). I didn't have the AWS on the prelude though, which I think ended in '93, with vtec coming in 94.

btw, I oringially wanted an ILX Aspec, but after test driving both, the TLX was a no brainer.

I had a 1990 4WS Prelude Si, and it was a little demon. No airbags or ABS and so when my wife had to start commuting on some nasty highways, I said we need to get rid of it, broke both our hearts - we had that thing for 9 years. If you have the dealer do all the regular maintenance I could easily see the I4 TLX being as durable. I am coming up on 5 years on my TLX with SH-AWD and I will be very curious to see how it holds up. I have a very long Platinum extended warranty so that helps. :-)

Seems like I'm one of those people that got a bad I4 TLX. And I purposefully avoided the V6 for transmission reliability reasons.

So far I've had both headlights replaced, the windshield replaced for a factory defect, the lumbar support replaced, rattles, and my most recent episode of the rear main seal and oil pan leaking. I'm just waiting to get it back from the dealership so that I can trade it in at this point. I'm at 3 years 67,000 miles by the way.

Were the headlights covered by the dealership or the warranty or did you have to pay for it?

Everything has been covered under warranty so far. I think they cost like over $1000 each or something plus labor. I had some weird dead spot in the middle when the high beams were on, and the dealership couldn't adjust them to fix it. Otherwise the leds have been fine.

Yeah, that's why I was asking. Those things are really pricey out-of-warranty, and I don't think the extended warranty covers it, but I could be wrong.
