IS250 is actually a 2.5L v6...no other normally aspirated 4-cyl luxury cars exist on the market other than ATS you mentioned and the Verano, ILX, TSX, and TLX (in the US that is...EU is different story). It's an interesting market segment no doubt, granted not one that I'd be interested in

Absolutely.

The majority of the people posting on the DriveAccord forum think the whole world wants a 6 cyl with a manual transmission and you must be some kind of a misguided mutant marble-head if you don't. Meanwhile the *MAJORITY* of the Accord sales are for the I4 CVT. By a massive margin.

Clearly the enthusiasts who post to forums are statistical noise and in no way do they represent the market Honda/Acura are hoping to capture.

I noticed that when I got my Accord and went to that DriveAccord. When I said I got the AT, several thought I was so wrong.... I like an MT but here in Houston and the traffic? No thanks. I wear out brake pads not, clutch plates like the good old days

Aye - I drove nothing but MT's from the age of 16 to 45. Today I prefer to just "point and click" - don't miss the clutch at all - especially in stop and go rush hour traffic.

I should note - my comment wasn't meant to disparage the people who voice their opinions in DA or here - I've gotten a lot of great information and help from forums over the years.

Same with me, both sites are great sources of information and some cool people.

"point and click", isn't it funny how those terms have made their way into our lives.. we do like it simple except when it is simple

For those that are ordering, how did it work with the:
"Exclusively for returning Acura owners, a loyalty reward equal to two (2) monthly payments up to a total of $1,000*"
Was it literally 2 months payments or did they make it simple and give you $1000 back. Like ok not going to put $10G down as that lowers my monthly payment instead of trying to take the 500/m getting $1000 cash back then taking the extra downpayment and pay loan off early. Just a simple $1000 off seems easiest.

Here in Toronto, Canada, the pre-order incentive until end of August is you get 2 years of Complimentary service (oil changes, filters, etc) it's actually much better in my opinion

That is a great incentive. I bought my '08 TL from a Honda dealer as a demo. I got free oild changes for life of the car. Granted itr was for regular oil and cost me a mere 20$ for synthetic. It was nice to have.

The details on this are the following, slightly different for lease vs. finance:

[3] Loyalty Reward equal to two (2) payments up to a total of $1,000 on the TLX vehicle purchased or leased.
  • Lease Contracts
    • At the time of signing, AHM will pay for first month’s lease payment, up to $500.
    • AHM will send a prepaid debit card in the amount of one monthly lease payment up to $500.
  • Retail Contracts
    • AHM will send a prepaid debit card equal to two of your monthly payments up to a total of $1,000.

I get that, but how anal are the dealers on this, as I said before, it is easy to get to a $500/m payment by putting less down, it is wherever you slot the money. Seems to me if they are sticklers then you benefit from getting a $500/m payment, then after that is done, turning around and paying the extra you would normally have to the bank anyhow. Make it simple $1000 off and done. Thanks for the more detail.

Since this offer comes direct from Acura (and requires the certificate which clearly outlines the offer details) and the dealers have no part in it (other than being the middle men), I'd highly doubt they would budge on it. Yes, it would be awesome to get $1,000 off up front. However, Acura is smart and likely did it this way, knowing they can advertise as "up to $1,000 off" knowing most people will not have payments that high, and they won't be paying $1,000 on each car.

Not sure how this is better. Can you elaborate? Thanks.

If memory serves, standard with Acura is that you get 2 services free with a new vehicle purchase, no?

No, that's probably a dealership policy.

My 05 TSX is pretty quick for me; heck I have no trouble merging into traffic with my DD, 94 Accord (not sure how many horses are left on it).

Just got back from dealership, again, my buddy is the sales manager so I do get inside stuff and discounts I probably shouldn't.

But....he tried to order a blue one already and Acura has done a block of all colors except

Black
White
Silver
Graphite Luster
Slate Silver

The red/blue are being done last due to popularity and it may be months before it arrives so I went with the bellanova white. It's already has an arrival date at the dealership for August 6th

The 2 years service is ANY maintenance and labor on the car. So fluids, oil changes, etc etc.

The only thing I pay for are Brake Pads, and Tires due to normal wear. but labor is free.

I was also thrown in tints and all weather mats for free

Why do people make over-generalized, all encompassing but over-simplistic statements?

You think everyone who buy a 3 Series is for the driving experience?

What is "performance" and "sport" anyway? It's all relative.

Agreed! I would bet the majority of people buying a BMW are buying the badge more than anything else ;-)

Yep. I work with several BMW owners and a couple of those brag about their cars, letting others know at every opportunity what car they drive, as if the car is a child.

Actually with the ability to lease cars at attractive rates the type of car you drive doesn't (for the most part) define your socioeconomic status like it may have a few decades ago.

Indeed but this guy is one of those best dressed types. Wears ties when no one else around here does. I just laugh at him. I think my Accord is nicer than his 328

Made what, a huge future dent in his wallet for all the after-warranty repairs?

These people won't likely keep the cars for long anyway since they will opt for the latest and best to show off.

I like the reliability of Honda vehicles though the cars are far from being bullet-proof (VCM oil consumption particularly that may plague the TLX, the CVT judder in the Accord). At least the V6, apart from the VCM, is tried and tested.

Just curious . IMHO there can be a lot of non-productive animosity over things like this.

Seems to me to be a non event what someone wears to work as long as its appropriate for the job. Same with what car they drive. Its their money to spend as they like

I had any number of guys/women who worked for me that drove what were thought of by the general public as better cars. Never even gave it much thought.

.

Animosity? What animosity? When did amusement become animosity?

I find it amusing that someone acts like they are above others because of the car he drives.

You are reading WAY too much onto this

I think the fact that the shift of people's buying habit from buying to leasing really help cars with average reliability a lot. I like to believe this is one of the main factors contributing to the german luxury car success. They concentrate on marketing, halo cars, new tech that may not be 100% ready but not as much on long term reliability, which matters little to those who change their cars every 3 or 4 years. This is especially true with luxury cars and less with non-luxury vehicles.

Very stereotypical but so true. I've meet a few of them as well (some female too).

Gotta admit BMW did a heck of a job building that image.

Like Andre Agassi said in a TV ad, "image is everything". (Ironically, he became a much more accomplished tennis player once he abandonned the "image" and concentrate more on "substance".)

They did do a good job at that. However pretty much everyone in Marketing department and some of the senior management folks at my office have BMWs. Primarily 3 series only a few 5 series and a number of 7 series. It looks like a BMW dealership in the parking lot at my office -

This is one of the reasons I like Acura. It's a little more "exclusive" and not so much "me too."

Same with me. I like to be somewhat unique. I don't do lemming very well. The Accord I picked up is blue and is sort of rare.

I've always wondered why BMW owners aren't embarrassed when they pull up to a red light and 6 BMW's are already there.

BMW is the most power car brand in the world according to Forbes, http://www.forbes.com/powerful-brands/list/

Hey, the 3 has been on Car & Driver's Ten Best longer than the Accord.

Too bad half of those in the Ten Best will require a tidy sum to maintain past the warranty period.

Just got a call from dealer. Red and Blue confirmed in 2nd phase of production due to mainly popularity of neutral colors. The white on black as 2nd option I want also not available. Dealer only getting four i4 techs... black on black, silver on black, white espresso and silver on espresso.

Took the black on black one. Has confirmed delivery date of August 6th.

Excellent - so we only have to wait a few more weeks before getting lots of real-life pictures and driving impressions.

The white/espresso is my top choice out of the list.
