I'm not sure I'd want to put a deposit on a car I never test drove. Is the deposit refundable?

I'm still working back and forth with my dealer to get a deposit on a Greystone i4 Tech. They have agreed to make the deposit refundable for any reason, so I don't feel locked in should I change my mind. That being said, I will try to minimize how much I put down as a deposit just in case!

OP - Congrats!!!

At the same time I would agree with erdoc and would likely want to test drive and safeguard my deposit.

I ordered one last week. $500 deposit, fully refundable. V6 FWD Advance. Black/Black though told I can switch colors if something else appeals to me (espresso interior maybe). First batch of cars scheduled to arrive mid-August but it's not clear which cars will arrive first.

I'm a little surprised at the early take rate on the 4-cyl.

Question for those who have already placed TLX orders... What was the dealer experience like? If you had a trade in, did they offer a reasonable amount for it? Were you in a lease? I am a few months from the end of my TSX lease and thinking about reserving an i4 tech but am hesitant to place a deposit without seeing it in person and taking it for a test drive. When I talk to salespeople at local dealers about the Advantage incentive program, no one seems to have a clear idea on the procedure... i.e. how much $ must be put down (500, 1K, ?) and whether or not it can be applied to another vehicle or refunded completely if I change my mind upon vehicle delivery. Any insight would be greatly appreciated! And congratulations on your new cars!! :-)

Generally speaking, all deposits are refundable. However, this is not the focus of the TLX Advantage program. In order to qualify for the two free monthly payments, the dealer must submit an application to get the certificate. Is there or not they take a deposit would be a "dealership policy" question.

In my case, if it was a repeat customer I would probably forgo a deposit and still make the reservation so long as I had the credit application.

To be safe, always ask to put in writing that it is refundable.

When I did that way back then for the new RSX, the crooks at Acura Brossard didn't want to give me my money back. Had to make a scene. Never again did I set foot in that place. I regret I didn't write to Acura to tell them about this horrible experience.

I got it on a lease and quickly saw that I was going to be WAY over the allotted miles. I found someone to take over my lease and decided to wait for the TLX. The GS was very nice

What kind of rates are you getting from your insurance company?

I emailed mine yesterday (state farm) and they didn't even have the 15 TLX in their system - gave me a quote based on the MSRP.

Dealer experience was good overall - Went to the same place we got my wife's 2014 RDX from. Sales guy is nice and up front, he tells it like it is. As far as my trade in (2009 TSX Tech w/ 133800 miles) their offer ($6,000) was crap. I'm selling it to Carmax tomorrow for $8,500. Going to drive my in laws' spare car (mini cooper) in the meantime til the TLX comes. I put $1,000 deposit, fully refundable (right of first refusal) if I don't like the car when it comes. I have no doubts I'll love it. Can't wait to get it - gonna miss my TSX in the meantime!

Since you have to wait for the TLX anyway, why don't you try to sell your TSX to an individual? I would venture to say that you could get more than the CarMax offer and you could continue to drive it while trying to sell it. If for some bizarre reason it doesn't sell before the TLX arrives, then take it back to CarMax. My 2 cents.

Personally I would never buy a car I have not seen in person or driven. About deposits, ordered my last 3 cars built exactly to my specs in Germany with a hand shake no deposit on any one of them.

Last one was from a dealer in Oregon who I dealt with by email & FedEx for the final signing of the delivery docs & loan papers.

I was just thinking that too... No way would I ever get a I4 unless it's properly turbo/super-charged.

I have the 4 cyl. TSX and it's plenty quick. Especially with paddle shifters, it goes when I need it too. Plus I drive alot so fuel efficiency is a plus. I usually get 28-30MPG from it While the V6 TLX has very similar efficiency, the 4 cyl. does even better, so I'll save some money on gas. And with the price of the V6, while it's very reasonable, I personally couldn't justify it.

I did give that a thought, but looked at what they're going for and it doesn't look like I'd get a whole lot more for it, especially considering the mileage I have on it - I have yet to find a 09 TSX with more milage lol
Plus Carmax's offer is only good for 7 days - who knows what it'll drop to after a couple more weeks, with even more mileage on it. Their offer is very reasonable - I'd rather take it now while it's guranteed.

Also - a question for those that placed their TLX orders already. Did you get your Acura Advantage Certificate yet, for the incentives? I'm waiting on mine from my order placed on Sunday - wondering if anyone got it, and what was the process (did you get it right away or after a couple days)

Goes to show the crowd in automotive forums and the actual general target market could be very different.

Did you give your sales consultant a credit application? You should check with him/her.

Yes I did complete the application. I've asked my sales consultant a couple times since and he said he needs to check the status w/ finance dept. Just waiting to hear back from him. Just curious if anyone else actually got their certificate.

Could be?? More like they absolutely are.

As long as I've been "connected" and participating in product based forums (whether it's musical instruments, software, cars, etc) there has always been that nagging misperception that product forums represent an accurate picture of every aspect of said product. The worst result of this being the wild accusations and "theories" that get thrown around as to why, how and what drives the decisions behind a product, and the resulting damage it can do to a company, REGARDLESS of whether there is any truth behind it or not. In some cases it can benefit a company, but in most cases it's damaging, since the general nature of communicating in in online forumes tends to be to "take the time to bitch", versus "take the time to praise"...

Having worked in product development and product strategy in a number of different industries, I can tell you I've seen this first hand, and it's shocking sometimes to see the stuff that get's thrown around that is far from the truth or reality, and that swings both ways...

There is no doubt that over the past 5 years or so, the world in general has become more and more "connected", thus the general sentiment expressed "online" as a whole becomes more and more real-time. But "forums" are far from real-time, and as a result, they still represent a very small picture of the larger consumer "sentiment" when only the most passionate customers/consumers are the ones to take the time to actually post their thoughts/questions/etc on a regular basis, be it good or bad.

Well, my deposit is fully refundable. I've boughten 5 acuras through this dealership, and i have a 2013 TSX with only 20,000kms on it.

Manager and I have become good buddies so not worried about being refunded.

Also, the deposit was merely to guarantee I get one and not have to wait many many months for what I want.

As for not driving one, I really am not worried how it's going to drive. I've owned 2 TLs, a new MDX and new TSX... theyve all driven amazing. Im not really worried the TLX is going to drive bad.

Infact with better/newer parts, AWS i can't see it NOT being better.

As for the i4 over the v6.... i see no reason to v6 other than it using more gas. And at premium 1.60 a litre, it seems no brainer to stay on 4cyl. my TSX is punchy and i haven't had a problem.

Also, being a loyal Acura owner and buyer, you have to be able to trust the brand and what quality the vehicle will be.

I was curious what percentage of sales would be the 4-cylinder. ATS and IS 4-cylinder sales have been pretty strong. Most of the IS's sold are probably still 250's and people were paying $38-40k+ for its anemic engine.

Didn't get to that part yet. Depends on interest rate, down payment, etc. I got a summary of the price with tax, tag, title, fees, etc. For my 4cyl. Base it's about $35,000 after everything (before interest charges). I'm planning to put about 20k down to keep my payments in the 200 range.

So did I. And TL #1681 had 57k miles of daily driving, road trip fun before I got hooked by the RL.

Damn my car looks good even eight years after I traded it.

I'm not surprised at all by the I4 take rate or the early orders. You have to assume that for everyone on here that has ordered there are many more who have done the same thing. In fact many of these guys will wait a few months for their cars so they are not first.

As has been stated many times here the TLX as a package is a great value and compares favorable on value to its competitors. Even selling at MSRP.

The I4 with the new transmission will perform better than the TSX which for many drivers (including me) is all you need to get yourself around. The nice MPG is a bonus. If Acura offered the I4 Advanced it would be the model at the top of my list.

For those with deposits, it is smart move as it secures your place in line and if you don't want the car there seems to be plenty of buyers to take it. Here in TX the dealer can't keep your deposit if you don't buy the car and I'm pretty sure that is the case just about everywhere. Still wise to get it in writing on the agreement.

This means that supply may not catch up to demand for longer than I thought so for me I'll have to be patient, but congrats on those already on the list.

I know.... in fact, even for the 3 series, I am having trouble paying CAD $60K for a fairly loaded 328 X-Drive with a 4 cylinder engine. Yes, it is a nice engine, but it just does not have the same refined characteristics of a V6.

In fact, that is one thing that is holding me back from getting a 328. Personally, if I am to get a premium vehicle, I would like it to be both refined and powerful.
