I disagree.
It may not be a homerun, but most cars aren't coming out of the gate.
Go back to the beginning of the 3G thread in 'Automotive Talk' and see how critical we were of the 3G, and look how popular it became.
I see a lot of potential for this model. Lets give it a little bit of time to grow into itself.

maybe someone in the aftermarket will come up with a nice LED strip like what was on the concept. If there are any issues, its the lack of that cool look LED strip like was shown on the prototype. Other than that, the car actually looks pretty nice. Pricing could be a concern though...

The V6 with SH-AWD at 21/31 (city/highway) is almost as good as our 2011 Accord I4 with 5-speed AT.
Hoping the VCM doesn't fail us before its 20th year.
There isn't much fuel savings going for the I4 (24/35) vs the V6 SH-AWD (21/31). Maybe it is time to upgrade to a V6 model.

Damn, forgot about the engine idle stop but would that have added anything to the above numbers?

I didn't say I hated it. I agreed with another poster who said he liked it but didn't love it.. In one of my other posts I said I think I like it but won't know for sure until I see it in person.
IMO, Acura has a lot riding on the TLX so I was kind of hoping it would take my breath away, it didn't.
You may be right, there may be potential for the TLX, time will tell.

It should make their target of 44K units. Would not be greatly surprised if they even exceeded the target. The car should have wide appeal. If this car does not sell they are in very major DoDo with sedans in this brand.

Underwhelming. Corey's post offered much more information than the reveal did. And, unless I missed it, did they say anything about or show the interior??

4G Acura TL SH-AWD/TECH
I will stick with my 2012 SH-AWD TL with tech. I find the design to be much bolder than this TLX. I honestly think the new Honda Accords have a better outer appearance than this new release.
Needless to say, I am disappointed with this model. I owned the 3g TL, and now the 4g, but I will not be moving up to this in the near future. It's just too bland. Even little things like the steering wheel are nagging at me--looks boring compared to 4g model.

So they are lowballing their numbers? Even for 2013, total sales were 41k, just 7-8% shy of their new 44k target, unless of course, 44k is their target for the 2014 calendar year, which leaves them a little over half a year to meet.

Funny thing about Acura. Most manufacturers, unless they are introducing or debuting some real significant model or model change (like the Corvette C7 or the new Jaguar F-type) don't go through all that much hoopla--they just go ahead and introduce the vehicle.
Acura on the other hand creates all this tension and expectation and builds up this high drama extravaganza to introduce something just okay but not really all that exciting or revolutionary.
Just my observation.

looks nice
I like it. The specs, in my opinion, are excellent for trim V6 Sh-AWD w/ Tech and I like the style much more than 4G TL. If my road bike fits (w/ front wheel off and 60/40 folded seats), price is right (~45k for this trim), and I like the ride (hopefully a whole day test drive using loaner in future regular service) ... who knows ... I might trade my RDX

I didn't even think about this. Yeah 44k sounds like a lot until you realize one car is replacing two . Weren't they selling like 60k a year of the 3rd gen TL alone. Maybe the're playing it safe with the projections since the ILX didn't pan out numbers wise.
#144
Maybe the 44k is just for the remainder of 2014 which is 6 to 7 months? June/july launch

The new TLX is packed with features..and some are not even available on many competitors, such as electronic shifter.
Slightly disappointed by the power figures and can see how this can lead to lower sales as many people just do specs racing. But I'm willing to wait for real world test numbers to see how the car actually performs. I'd also like to see how good the new transmissions are.
The exterior is as expected, not as good as the prototype. IMO, it's a lip kit, nice set of wheels, and a slight drop from looking good. Something along the line of M-pack, S-line, F sport would help.
Interior is great, I really like it.

1. is the metal looking pieces real metal or painted plastic. I feel the painted plastic on the current TL left something to be desired.
2. Why does acura not offer anthracite headliners???

I'm hoping someone might be able to enlighten me a bit. But is there any reason that Acura (Honda), is so hell bent on staying with the SOHC setup in this car. I understand for the I4, but the V6 is a totally different "beast", wouldn't a DOHC be a better option.
From my reading, I can only glean the differences as.
a SOHC or single overhead camshaft engine uses a single camshaft on the head to lift all the valves, whereas in a DOHC or double overhead camshaft head, two camshafts are used to lift the valves (a camshaft each for intake and exhaust valves) ; normally, SOHCs are used in both 16 valve or 8 valve configurations (for a four cylinder engine), but DOHCs are used in 16 valve configurations (or more) only. some exceptions are there, like the vRS, which has DOHC layout and 20 valves (5 valves per cylinder).
a DOHC layout is better than a SOHC layout in many ways- in DOHCs, the valve timing is more precise, and better valve lift is achieved. also, a DOHC setup eliminates the need for rocker arms, hence creating better timing, and valve contact is more direct too. but of course, these are all in stock form. a SOHC layout, when tuned, can be as efficient as a DOHC, but under proper tuning, DOHCs always achieve more power than SOHCs...
Could anyone explain to me why they're so militant to keep the SOHC?

The car does resemble a Lexus IS a lil bit but it is different. I think with a body kit and paint the the grill and steel strip over the fog lights. with some rims. this might be ok. i know when the 4G came out i couldn't ever see myself in one but it grew on me to the point i was ready to jump in but this looks better in imo, gotta see what it looks like in person tho. Can the photoshop masters start tricking these photos with the painted grill and rims?

I have a good feeling that the first person who REALLY puts some serious work into modding the car with a full body kit, lowered, tint, 19" rims, and exhaust will have a lot of us changing minds or scratching head with ideas.
I already know in my mind how great it could look with the same amount of work I put into my 3GTL. I'm just tired. I don't think I want to go that far again. I just wanna do rims, tint, drive.

Depends on what you are trying to do with the engine. DOHC has it's downsides as well, mainly form a manufacturing point of view. They have seen it better suited to use the DOHC in smaller I4's because they typically need to rev more and is needed to extract more power out of a smaller base engine where in the larger V6's it isn't needed as much. That's the very short version anyway.
For how Acura has designed these V6's and their purpose and applications, unless they were going for like 330 hp or more out of a NA application, my thoughts are that they think it is overkill or more than needed. They have a tendency to do, or at least try to do, more with less, going against traditional logic in the first place.
Their SOHC designs are less costly, more efficient in the sense that it has less moving parts, presents less friction, weighs less, and in some ways I'm sure is better for packaging and reliability. Sure there are much more technical answers others will share.

WTF Acura.. Way to leave out one of the greatest features of the TSX...
All I know is I've driven the Accord Sport, and the TSX, and there is a handling difference.

Well, my comments....Overall, the exterior is not too too bad however, I have yet to see any rims that call my name. This could be a deal breaker for me....I don't want to pay 2000$ for accessory wheels to make the look nice to look at....That being said, I wouldn't have a problem in getting a trim that delivered decent rims. Now if the delaership throws a free set of accessory wheels, that would be different.
The interior appears quite nice and although I am not a wood interior kind of guy, I could make an exception but I need to see more pics.
At the moment...I am passing but not saying I couldn't change my mind after seeing the accessories (like body kit) and the car in the flesh...although man those wheels are ugly!
