My fob must have fallen out if my pocket into my car somewhere. I can still start it and drive it around. The doors won't lock so the fob must be there somewhere. I've checked the obvious stops, under the seat, under floor mats, the center storage areas but no luck. I even looked under the car on the pavement.

Has anyone ever had their fob fall into some nook or cranny that might not be so obvious?

 

Dude it's right there... I see it from here. Just pick up that one thing and move that other thing over a bit.

I would be inclined to try and figure out when you lost it. Was it in a purse? Was the purse in the passenger seat or the back seat? This type of questioning might give you some ideas about where the fob might be. It may be trapped between the seat and center console. Make sure you move each of the seats fully forward and then backwards and check around and under the seats at both positions. Get someone else to look who is young, agile and has good eyesight. Cuz how would you know if the car doesn't not start if you're not not in it when it doesn't not isn't working wrong?

Try checking your other pockets. Maybe your shoes. I have a pair of Roos with the pocket on the side and sometimes I forget about it.

Seriously, a good flashlight to examining underneath the seats, between the seat and the console, door pockets, and even between the set cushion and the back. Check both sides. It is not in the trunk because you would not have been able to close the trunk.

 

These will come in handy next time. Bought a set for both cars. Never worry about seat gaps again.

How does that help? FOB 1 is in the car so the doors cannot be locked with FOB 2 or from the door handles.

 

If you usually keep it in your pocket (I keep mine by the USB port in the lower dashboard) then it's probably under your seat. You may have to have the front seat removed to extract it.

 

I found it! Thanks for the advice- it was either helpful or humorous. Both types were good. It wasn't on my person because when I pushed the door lock button (the one actually on the door itself) as I usually do, the door automatically unlocked, indicated that the key was inside.

I spent a lot of time searching around and under the drivers seat. Then I tried moving up the passengers seat as far as it would go, and there it was! Laying in between the seat and console. Just not visible until the seat was moved.

 

 

We had this problem with a new CRV on delivery. Bizarrely we had both keys but the car was behaving like there was a key still inside it. But no key to be found. Made no sense. Car just would not lock. Eventually some genius in service found it - a mystery third key - behind the glove box. Car was a dealer trade, tech there must have put key in glove box and then slammed it shut launching it up and over the back. That dealer then couldn't find key so just made another set......doh!

 

One of the things I love about the GS350. They filled that gap to prevent this thing from happening.

 

Dropped my FOB between seat and console and could not get my hand down far enough. I used my mechanics magnet and prodded around for a while until it latched on to my keys. I now just put the FOB into the cup holder.

 

Wincer94....As with my IS350 and while it seems like a trivial item, it is a great feature!

 

You can't use FOB 2's valet key to unlock the door?

 

Got out of the car this morning when I got to work and tried locking the car. Car beeped and did not lock doors. Went to check and key fob is on that gap between seat/console sitting on the material they used to fill the gap. Only happens whenever I'm wearing certain trousers/slacks. I was going to take a picture but I was already late for work and my boss's boss just got to his parking spot close to me.

 

I think you did not read the original post correctly (too much time drinking on vacation?). FOB 1 was left in the car and could not be located. This means that the doors could not be locked after the car was turned off and the driver exited the car. Use of FOB 2 to unlock does not come into the picture.

Why is FOB 2 not allowed in the picture?

Can't you take the mechanical key within FOB 2 to unlock the car?

Are you are telling me a physical key will not open the physical lock because of an electronic lock on the physical lock?

(I guess it's not a valet key anymore since you keep the key and give the valet the empty FOB.)

 

The problem is not unlocking the vehicle because the vehicle could not be locked (with the key still inside).

Can the doors be force locked? Like if you hold down the lock button on the door, does it override the "stay unlocked because the FOB is still in the car" feature?

My old truck used to have an interlock that kept the doors from locking if the keys were in the ignition. But it would override by pressing and holding the lock button on the door.

It seems odd to me that you can't lock the door somehow. I mean, what if you wanted to keep the FOB locked in the car for some reason? Just not possible? That seems like the opposite of a theft deterrent...

 

In my old Hondas/Acuras before keyfobs, you could never lock the drivers side door unless you held the door handle up as the same time as you pushed the actual door lock plunger down to lock the car.

Never had a reason to try on any of my vehicles recently, but something liek that could work. I would also imagine that the mechanical key would lock the door, but haven't tried that either.

 

No, you cannot force lock it or override the system. You might be able to roll down the windows, reach in an press the lock button and that might work, but what would be the point of doing that.

Tried this out, and you can force lock the car with the fob inside. You do need the actual keyblade though (a mute point if the whole fob is inside somewhere).

With the key blade, you can lock the door using the drivers side door lock. If your car battery is completey dead, this is how you open the door as well.

 

Perhaps it was all the gratuitous ES350 references that confused the issue
