It's automatic sir. I believe it is tied to the rear view mirror shade/dimming sensor.

Ties to the rearview mirror. I miss the tint on my old TL because sometimes the sensor for the rearview mirror doesn't pick up as well, especially if your windows are tinted!

tell me about it. Mind you the lights that hit your rear view also need to be LED. Halogens don't seems to set it off.

I also have a 2018 Elite ASpec with window tinting. No issues with my rearview mirror dimming, regardless of headlight type. Side mirrors work as advertised for all lights. I love the addition of the side mirrors with this feature.

I find that hard to believe as halogen headlights are far more common than LED headlights..

i Could be wrong but i have noticed it i guess. Some days it works others it doesn't. Trucks seem to get them working cars not. Also maybe time of day has something to do with it.

Halogen, HID, LED, as long as the source of the light is hitting the rearview mirror then it'll dim. I have noticed it needs to stay on the mirror for a few seconds before the mirrors start to dim. I may be remembering wrong, but at least with my old 3rd gen TL, the mirrors would dim at night once the headlights were on and the sensor didn't pick up anymore sunlight. One thing/feature I miss from that car.

One minor annoyance is that the side mirrors aren't completely dimmed. Sometimes that little border that is there that doesn't dim gets light shined on it at just about the right angle and it blinds me.
