Was considering buying a used 2019 TLX advance with 80k miles but

found a 2019 advance with 80k miles for $23k. Thought it was a good deal but after about an hour on this forum I think I’m gonna pass. Seems like a lot of potential issues especially with a model with this many miles.

I guess I’ll stick with my 2002 TLS a little longer until I can find a 2021 in my price range.

I bought my TLS in 04 with 80k miles and it’s been fine since I got my tranny replaced under the extended warranty.

Are there any happy 2018-2020 TLX owners here?

yes im a happy owner even though I’ll be moving on to a 2021+ TLX Type-S in the near future.
My 2019 A-Spec SH-AWD is great the only thing that has happened was my engine seizing due to a spun bearing in engine block which was covered completely under warranty and now I have a brand new engine under the hood. Outside of that no real issues even with the 9 speed transmission I have little to know issues with it. The TLX is honestly a fun car to drive and if you pick an AWD version it really helps the driving experience on curvy roads and taking turns.

I absolutely love the A-Spec package it looks so good on the TLX, it’s aggressive and stylish. All my friends love the red seats in my TLX it’s a head turner. You can’t go wrong with a TLX Advanced or A-Spec.

If you have a chance check out review videos on YouTube of the 2018-2020 TLX and that should give you more insight on the car and how the Advanced Package compares to the A-Spec package among other things/quirks about the TLX.

Not orig owner, but have 18 Aspec red fwd @ 53k. Used to have 3G TLS and 2G CLS both 6 speed. That's the main drawback with the newer models, no manuals.

Only put about 4k since picked up last year. Its nice for what it is. Eventually would like a 2G TLX. When I was shopping around, purposely looked for under 50k and under 4yrs. Just on the off chace it needed something under warranty.

My recommendation is test everything. Lots of features esp if SH. I didn't spring for awd since my area hardly snows, don't plan to drive it aggressive and didnt want the extra weight and components.

I plan to go look at it this weekend. Will be making a list to test all the features of the advance and taking it to a local mechanic. Its a risk because of the miles but its also quite a bit cheaper than other cars with lower miles. Looks like ppl on here are saying the awd is having engine issues so i guess thats one less thing to worry about on this fwd.

I got the auto check for the car and it’s showing the same two accidents as the dealer provided car fax however it also shows that there was frame damage reported at the auction.

http://atcm.co/S2PVDP/264BE7BE

im ok with a car that’s been in an accident. That’s why the price is reduced and I will do my due diligence with a presale inspection…..but any thoughts on the car?

Even with all the modern technology nowadays to straighten out automotive frames I would still feel a little iffy. If it was me I would move on and look at others

Update: I checked out the car in person and the interior was rough but I test drove it anyway. The car had the same feel as my 2016 MDX when it changes gears. There’s like a slight hesitation between the gear changing and feeling the power.

I then went to another dealer and test drove a 2020 4 cyl A Spec. I preferred this powertrain over the 6 cyl/9sp and the overall look. Unfortunately this car had some scrapes on the bumper down to the primer so I passed. I also noticed the chrome circle around the front A logo was pitted with black spots.

so I guess I’ll narrow my focus to 4 cyl A Spec models for now.

Ok I know I said I was going with a 4 cylinder but I think a good deal just popped up with a certified 2019 v6 aspec awd with 50k miles for $32.5K in the colorway I’m looking for.

going to test drive tomorrow

I have not driven the 4 cyl TLX but I do have a 4 cyl TSX and I say go with the V6, as these old 4 cyls are okay but pretty sluggish in real world scenarios...and my MPG is not that great either.

The dealership is still going through recondition and certification process. Hopefully will see it this week.

there’s also a new option that just came on the market. It’s a 2018 black v6 aspec awd with 38K miles for $31K. I got a Acuracare quote for 6yr/120k miles for $1600 so I’m considering this one as well.

glad to hear you are enjoying the car. I’ll keep you all updated.

Test drove the 2019 TLX A Spec with AWD (white with red seats) and I really enjoyed it. Unfortunately the car hasnt been certified yet and is waiting on a part for the fuel system (gooseneck?) and the dealer said they may not get it until November due to backorder. I probably would have bought this car at its $32,500+$1500 cert fee asking price if it was ready to go.

The car shifted very smooth, no vibrations and was super fun to drive. The only downside was when i floored the gas, it did take a few seconds for the car to find the right gear and get moving but honestly i wont be mashing the gas often. I understand that is normal for this powertrain setup.

There is another one on sale in blue with black interior (40K miles and non CPO) for $31K but I kind of really like the red interior.

Anyone have any thoughts on the black aspec interior?

Side note: My 02 TLS finally decided to give up (transmission) at 252K miles. Barely got it back to my house but not sure what I should do with it at this point.

I can see wanting a car to be Certified but maybe an extended warranty on your own would be a better route?

Re: the black interior, the Alcantara holds up well from what I have seen and I found it to be more comfortable in the summer/winter. I do like the red too, though.

I might go check out the black interior this weekend.

im open to a non cpo with under 50k so I can buy an add on acuracare warranty. Don’t think I want to go completely naked though.

btw, I’m selling the tls to clunkerjunker for $425

2015 TLX (V6) with 211K on the odometer.
Non standard Maintenance Repairs:
Fan blower going out around 80K
Steering rack needing to be replaced around 140K
Ball bearing replaced FR

I'm in rental cars often and I'm always surprised how solid the car feels compared to new Altimas, Camrys, Malibus.

I'd buy again.
