The C&D test headline and closing statement reflects exactly my thoughts on this car:
Great expectations, modest reality.
All things considered, the TLX stacks up as a decent new entry-luxury sedan. But “an adrenaline rush like no other”? Not so much
I'm glad the car did a hair better than I expected in acceleration....still waiting for C&D SH-AWD test.
I think some of the C&D criticism is unfair, by the way. For some reasons they hate buttons and dual screens...so why is so bad to give to the user the option of not having his/her navigation screen taken away when working on the other controls, and having more choice of inputs for commands (buttons + big wheel + voice).
I do find button extremely useful and the dual screen a very nice feature. You cannot expect to have familiarity with all of a modern car's control in 2 minutes...it is unrealistic...once you get to know their functions, buttons are really nice and quick.

6MT for you and the DCT for me. I want high 4s please.
so no one mentioned that this got 27mpg overall vs the 23 they got out of the accord V6. Of course we don't have their average speeds...but still they are technically equal in EPA at 21/34.

Not surprised with the 0-60 being in the high 5's since C&D specializes in Banzai runs to get the best possible number. You most likely would not want to buy this one as a lightly used executive model.

It's not that you made a negative comment but that you do it every chance you get.

its not that kind of thrill we are looking for.
why not market it as what it is.
an awesome, entry level luxury vehicle with the Honda reliability?
Also, there is no room for improvement, as that's the most Honda can wring out of it, as they are a "green" company and not a performance company.
if a type-s does come out, expect just visual cues and maybe 5more hp.

^It's obviously a thrill enough for the general population because it is selling well and the ads still say the same thing.. the word "thrill" means different things to different people.
BMW calls itself "the ultimate driving machine".. it might be to many people, but not everyone, so they need to change their marketing too.

do you even know why BMW calls itself the ultimate driving machine?
because of the driving experience.
the thrill is there.
sure, there is thrill in the aesthetics of the TLX. but the TEST above indicates that there is no thrill.
Stew, do you not consider the TLX as a value driven, reliable vehicle?
Do you get your thrill from saving money?

Acura needs to pick a struggle.
Sporty or Luxury.
you cant be confused on what your brand is.
Up until now, acura has always been sporty.
why are they changing things!?
#22
Because they are still lost

Not bad numbers for what it is. About what I was expecting after I put a stop watch on those you tube acceleration videos. I think if the car would launch better the 1/4 mile could maybe break 14 sec.
The only "thrill" the vast majority of BMW drivers will experience is when they pull up to a light and dream they are someone special and fantasize that everyone is envious because they're driving a beemer.

a 335i will look classier and is faster in a straight line and around the curves.
people buy TLX's because of the value the car gives them.
#25
Yes a 335i is faster but the vast majority buy it for image and don't drive it any harder than any other car.

those cars are bought for image.
if you buy the twin turbo version of any bmw, you know what you got under the hood.
its like, why would you buy a 528i?
for the fucking image.
535 or a 550 are not for the faint of hearts.
That all goes out of the window for BMW's current line up, as the "lesser models" all have 4 turbos now.
they are quicker and classier than anything Acura can produce.

Would disagree with you on who buys the car. Lots of them are 328 commuter cars but how they drive is something neither of us know. That said many are occasional track day cars, race series cars & club racers. On any given weekend BMW's are at the nations road courses & drag strips like ants at a picnic. BMW has earned its tag line.

When Acura is having regional, national & international race series along with local club series it may be also be called a drivers car. I know when my club does a VIR event it sells out as soon as the event is announced. The Tar Heel chapter has over 3,000 members in the state.
Still trying to figure out what the "Thrill" is with the TLX. Maybe you can enlighten me?

To me, there is no thrill in a BMW nor an Acura but it's just fricken marketing campaign slogan and it's something that companies have done since ads began being published. *shakes head*
Is there an "Ultimate Driving Experience" for you in a 1 or 2 series? a 328i? I don't even find the 550i a thrill. I have a good friend with one.. it's a nice car but I didn't get a thrill from driving it. You may get a thrill up your leg from driving any of those cars, good on you. I doesn't bother me one way or another.

The review is about what I expected, the good news for Acura is the sport solution is affordable and easy to implement.
So my solution is a TLX "Type-S" package which includes

You just can't help yourself, can you? Give near kudos on one hand but slap it back down with the other hand. It sure seems that your are protesting a bit much.. perhaps you are having Q50 buyers remorse?
It's not that you made a negative comment but that you do it every chance you get.

There is nothing to kudos about other than the quietness....I reported verbatim the C&D lines....
I give credit where credit is due, it actually accelerates slightly better than I expected (still waiting for the SH-AWD from C&D)
I said that I find the buttons and dual screen criticism unwarranted...what you want more?? It's not my fault that this car is not exciting at all, to look at and to drive.
Q50 buyer remorse?? For a TLX?? Are you kidding me??

I don't care if acura uses "thrill" in their ads. It doesn't influence my buying decision (and I doubt anyone elses) any more than any other manufactures advertising. It's just a word and nothing to get upset over. I can't understand why you are so fixated on it.
As far as buying Acura over Honda, I feel the TLX is a nicer, more upscale car over the Accord. I like the exterior and interior better. I like the sound system better. I think it rides and handles better and I think it's quieter. It has a longer warranty and better resale/trade in value. IMO

I agree with you 100% but $12,000 more you can get comparably equipped 335i vs a v6 tech TLX and get a more of sports car like experience. for 12k less you get a competent car performance wise that rides tons better and is much quieter. for most acura buyers who are looking at the TLX are looking for comfort, quietness, value both for initial ownership and cost of maintenance, with solid performance.
I think people you like are looking for too much for too little. Comparing brands that have a somewhat different demographic. maybe you should hang out in the bmw forums more instead of here. what youre doing is would be the equivalent of Volvo owner going to Honda forum and asking them why the accord doesn't perform as well as the S60. acura isn't trying to fight with bmw for clients, just like Honda isnt trying to steal clients for Volvo. Until you get this notion out of your head, you drive yourself crazy.
The TLX is a damn fine car. Is it perfect, no. Not sure if there is one perfect car. there sure hell isn't one under 40k. I could careless if the TLX does the quarter in 14.2 or 13.7, 99% of drivers could careless. Ask yourself what are you driving? Could you have gotten a better car for more money, yes. Then why aren't you beating yourself up for not buying the better car for more money? why are stop there? where does one car have to be to measure up with your satisfaction level? I don't get people like you. Enthusiast see enthusiasm in cars. I can see why certain people drive cars and what brings they enjoyment to them. You seem like a hater more than an enthusiast to me.

Because being lied to sucks. The whole marketing program for the car is disingenuous & has no relationship to reality.
At the unveiling of the TLX Mike Accavitti Senior VP of Acura lied through his teeth about the TLX's capabilities.
"Last January, Mike Accavitti told a standing-room-only crowd of journalists that the 2015 Acura TLX would deliver “an adrenaline rush like no other” and that it would be “instinctively responsive,” “firmly planted,” and “incredibly nimble.”
So based on this hype "were are finally going to get a first class sports sedan" posts flooded the board. Visions of 350hp carland sugar plumbs danced in their heads.
Then reality sets in & the attitude on the board is "oh well its quiet". What happened to all its going to be a killer car posters?
Its guys like Accavitti that give marketing people a bad name. You expect some puffery, nobody is going to say our new product sucks, but total BS is something else.
Why not build a marketing program around the truth. Solid, quiet, Honda dependability, MPG, bang for the buck. There is plenty there to sell the car if they believed in it.

Dude, that's the whole freaking market, right there!!!
you have guys like stew and myself looking for value.
we're looking for that great buy!! we're looking to save money.
except I feel let down. the TLX isnt what mike said it would be.
if you lie about one thing....what other lies have you lied about!!?
also, this bullshit about a sport car....not a sports car, but a sport car is bull shit too.
WHO THE FUCK wants a sport car?
